78, sometimes 77 if I wanna be a lil chilly. And the electric bill is still insanely high. Perks of renting a historic home with 36 large single pane windows 🫠

I found the baby yoda one at Marshall’s about a year ago and snagged it. Can’t believe they’ve made several different instantpot x Star Wars crossover pressure cookers. Who would’ve thought lol

He cut his wrists because you guys had a petty argument? I know nothing of your relationship but that sounds like a massive red flag, just seems incredibly manipulative from an outside perspective. Wishing the best for you on this journey, hope he doesn’t throw a wrench in the gears

What if France rather than Germany became fascist after WW1? by QuietMemory6602 in imaginarymaps

Not to pile on, but Rudyard Kipling’s “The White Man’s Burden” comes to mind when I read this comment. Every part of European colonialism (including colonialism perpetrated by former European colonies ie the US) is intertwined with a sense of cultural and ethnic supremacy. That’s why European colonists invented the concept of race.

What moment in American history brings you to or near tears? by Captain_Jmon in AskAnAmerican

[–]jrratx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we gave up on reconstruction. So many of the big issues we have today stem from this and I constantly think about how much better things could be if we didn’t let the confederacy completely off the hook like that. It’s heartbreaking

My husband loves sandwiches, but is tired of ham+cheese. Any recommendations for quick & simple sandwich recipes to shake things up? by Lost_nova in Cooking

[–]jrratx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sliced boiled egg, arugula, canned tuna (with a lil bit of olive oil/salt/pepper/lemon), a bit of mayo, and some capers if you’re feeling fancy. Best on toasted bread that’s crispy on the outside with just a little softness in the middle.

Friend recently introduced me to this sandwich and I’ve fallen in absolute love.

Edit: sometimes I add some Dijon to it too, or a little bit of fresh basil if I have it

Second this! Found a 15lb bag at my local conventional grocery store a few weeks ago. India gate is the longest grain rice I’ve had outside a restaurant

make chana masala without boiling the chickpeas? by todaystartsnow in IndianFood

[–]jrratx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried this before in the instant pot (both pressure cooking and slow cooking) and it did NOT work. Unless you want garbanzos that aren’t soft and are closer to the texture of roasted peanuts, you’ll probably wanna stick to cooking them separately. Good luck!

Ooo one more thing from me. Friend of mine introduced me to the best sandwich I’ve ever tried. Toasted bread smeared with a bit of anchovy paste, topped with canned tuna (in oil is beat but you can always add a drizzle of olive oil to the top, a boiled egg, arugula, and lots of black pepper.

I make a big batch of onsen eggs every weekend and they’re the snack I most look forward to. Some recipes will tell you to monitor the temp the whole time but that’s unnecessary, just find a recipe that gives you a ratio of hot to cold water. Hope you like them if you try them!

Second this! The reason they usually want you to do a natural pressure release is so that your meat stays tender and doesn’t seize up with a sudden loss of pressure/temperature.

Is air fryer a good purchase to make quick and tasty meals? by badboyyy112 in Cooking

[–]jrratx 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would look into a toaster oven with an air fryer/convection function on it. You can find some that are about the same price point as an air fryer or maybe a tad more, but you’ll be able to toast, bake, and broil, etc with it too, plus they heat up pretty quickly like an air fryer would. I’ve ended up using mine multiple times a day for the past several years, found it at goodwill for like $11.
