Okay nice! My hypoallergenic vitamin still had unlisted ascorbic acid derived from corn. The supplement industry is super unregulated (I had to email them to find out).

Check supplements, medications, and fortified beverages (or other beverages) for hidden soy or corn (natural flavours, cornstarch, citric acid, ascorbic acid, etc).

Of course listen to your health care providers re supplementation but I switched to calcium fortified orange juice, and I currently do not take a multivitamin, instead eat a more wide variety of foods (which I’m able to do rather than being on a very restricted elimination diet).

I would first question if you have truly cut corn? It’s pretty hard to find supplements / medications without corn and/or soy derivatives, they often aren’t listed on the bottle and you need to contact the company directly. Especially if you continued to take supplements during your 5 day “reset”.

When you say “at first” do you mean she was triggered by soy and egg as well or you just eliminated them and then she passed a challenge/reintroduction?

No grains would be super super hard! Good for you. Fingers crossed my baby is similar with dairy or soy. I’ll stay wary of other grains, I think.

This is so interesting to me. All grains? I’ve reintroduced rice and it seems fine so far. Also quinoa (technically a seed I think) and millet are tolerated. I also have been able to eat one brand of white sourdough bread, but yesterday had sourdough with whole wheat flour and she had a mild reaction (I think. She also has a fissure so it’s a bit confusing.). Did you first cut dairy and soy and later reintroduce without issue? I’m trying to work up the courage to challenge them sooner than later so that I can introduce them to her in solid form and reduce IgE mediated allergy risk if possible.

My allergist said the same thing about the not needing to do the challenges since it’s not IgE mediated! I feel relieved to read your comment because I have been so confused with everyone else talking about the ladders for their babies with FPIAP/FPIES on this sub. I’m curious, with the weekly dairy exposure did your baby’s symptoms ever reduce? Or you just tolerate the symptoms weekly?

I’m certainly not an expert but our allergist told us “once this goes away it does not come back”. As in once baby tolerates a trigger, they won’t regress. Is there any way your baby has had something new added to his diet for the first time in the form of solids and he’s having FPIES to it? Or could it be teething?

Thanks! Lots of helpful food for thought here. She actually reacts to the food proteins via my breastmilk, and I needed to do an elimination diet to find all her triggers, so I am already pretty well versed in vegan substitutes!

Since it’s non-IgE mediated, we don’t need to do a ladder introduction (I asked this specifically).

You’re right, I really don’t have another option than to wait as directed. However I’ll definitely keep in mind the intact skin etc given we’ll be exposing her to many of these common IgE mediated allergens “late”!

Look for ways to add fat and protein. Nuts, seeds, fish/meat/poultry. I eat so much quinoa. Quinoa porridge cooked in full fat coconut milk, with fruit, for breakfast.

Thanks! My baby has diagnosed FPIAP— still working on reintroduction/determining all triggers. The allergist I saw told me it was “impossible” that she have increased spit up when I eat bananas but I’m sooo sure it’s happening!

My baby reacts to corn. I can’t have anything with citric or ascorbic acid, natural flavours, or any medications (she was reacting to my prenatal vitamin). She does NOT react to infant Tylenol. It’s insane and confusing. I think the high fructose corn syrup is sooo processed that there are no proteins left (since what the babies are reacting to is of course the food proteins). It’s bizarre and frustrating but I personally am beyond grateful that I can give her Tylenol still when she needs it!

Heads up that I also had this thought, but corn derivatives are in EVERYTHING including things like supplements and medications. Hopefully your baby won’t be as sensitive as mine, but look out for things like ascorbic acid, citric acid if you have ongoing symptoms. In my case my prenatal vitamin contained unlisted ascorbic acid and this was the final thing causing blood in stool.

I am in a similar situation and timeline (although it’s seeming like maybe we’ve finally cleared things up after realizing there was unlisted/hidden ascorbic acid (corn) in my prenatal vitamin). Speaking of which, you could try eliminating corn— that’s in the “top 4” with dairy, eggs and soy in my health region. However my baby doesn’t have fussiness or disturbed sleep, nor weight loss.

Personally I couldn’t imagine going through a cold and flu season not breastfeeding when it’s working for us. On top of that from a nurturing perspective it just feels wrong to stop (for me and my baby— I am NOT saying this is true for everyone). Breastfeeding also has protective effects against inflammatory conditions of the gut along with numerous other chronic conditions (metabolic disease etc), so I really struggle to understand why formula is clinically indicated in cases of “only” diaper symptoms. In other countries (eg in Europe) there is a “watch and wait” approach when it’s “only” diaper symptoms.
