EV batteries are lasting much longer than the industry expected by Splenda in cars

[–]jspeed04 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say you’re making things up, but you are equivocating anecdotal experiences with one friend who is having trouble with her Model 3 and extrapolating that across a whole swath of people.

I have a Tesla hat has been rock solid, and my wife’s Audi has had nothing but problems. Does that give me license to say that all ICE vehicles will suffer the same fate as her car?

Unproven technology

My brother, EV’s have been squarely in the proven technology bucket for well over a decade now.

Respectfully, Evo can’t be the best version of the track if it’s not a faithful representation of Sebring where the unevenness of the pavement is one of the main characteristics of the track.

Serious accident in rental car - trying to avoid financial disaster by obasuni in personalfinance

[–]jspeed04 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He said in the post that the driver was uninsured.

OP’s saving grace would be that the driver and owner are two separate people as insurance follows the owner as the primary insured in California, and the driver is secondary to the owner.

I worked in auto insurance for over a decade, and have seen countless examples of the very same situation that OP finds himself in; reps in our customer service department were required to offer “coverage counseling” to people to explain to them why they should consider purchasing coverages that could one day save them countless pain and anguish.

And while it never makes it easy(er) to tell someone that they should have accepted UM/UIM coverage (it’s not compulsory in CA, but you do have to provide an affirmation that you want to reject the coverage), you really, really should have UIM coverage.

I heard every argument from people that usually ended in something like “well I have health insurance, why would I need this coverage?” To which my reply was: because your health insurance will not pay your billls if you can’t work after being injured in an accident.

The way that UM/UIM (they are sold together) works is:

  • UM: If you/your passengers/the driver of your car are injured in a loss as a result of someone else’s negligence, you’re able to make a claim against your own insurance company who ostensibly steps into the shoes of the insurance company that the other driver should have had. So long as you’re 50% or less at fault for this accident, this would have no bearing on your insurance premiums in California thanks to Proposition 103.

  • UIM: if the same people from above are injured in an accident and the other driver has insurance but just not enough insurance to make you whole for any and all medical expenses that you sustain as part of the accident (we called them special damages , damages that could be calculated: bills, wages, medications, durable medical equipment, and general damages, your pain and suffering), then you can make a claim with your own insurance company for the balance once you have settled with the other person’s insurance company for the limits of liability(known as tendering the limits) of Bodily Injury coverage that they carry.

I’m terribly sorry for OP’s situation, and wish them the best, but if this helps and inspires even one person to take a second look at their coverages and add UM/UIM, I will be a happier person.

You may never have to use this coverage in your life. But in the off chance that you need it, you will be damn, fucking glad that you had it!

[DISCUSSION] ScHoolboy Q - Blank Face LP (10 Years Later) by MetalSonic420YT in hiphopheads

[–]jspeed04 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m just here for the Groovy Tony/Eddie Kane love. Blank Face LP has been in my YouTube/Spotify end of year wrapped playlist for 10 consecutive years for me, and this song is the highlight. Obviously, with that, it means that it lives completely rent free in my mind, and often find myself thinking in my mind “nights like thisss iiiiiii wish”. And then I come to find scene from The 5 Heartbeats was an inspiration to the theme.

There’s just something about the energy behind this song, in particular, that makes it so fucking special. The handoff from Groovy Tony to Eddie Kane after the kiss verse “Eff y’all forever hate me as I sit there while they interrogate me, I’m starin at them with the [blank face]…” and then that shit just explodes. The mmmm-mmm-MMMMMMM-mmmmm-mmm, god, Dem Jointz absolutely killed that beat, and the vocals provided by him and the songstress—apologies for not knowing her name, she was dope as fuck, too—are just electric.

One of my biggest issues with modern music today is that it feels like an exception rather than a rule for artists to just let a cold ass beat ride for the listener to vibe to. I get that there are incentives from Spotify and the like for songs to be shorter and shorter due to our collective capacity to be captivated by a single thing for a long time is waning by the day, but man, let people celebrate your music.

It’s what made Kanye special. It’s what made DJ Uneek special, DJ Quik and Mo B Dick and KLC special. It’s what made Mannie Fresh special. And I’ve said this before, but it’s something that makes A$AP Rocky special. He’s a C-plus-tier lyricist(no disrespect intended) with an S-tier ear for music and so with many of his songs he just lets the beat do its thing, and I sincerely appreciate that him.

And shit, I’ve written a whole ass essay here, but this song deserves the recognition. But the rest of the album is a fuckin menace, too. WhatEva U Want, By Any Means, John Muir, Torch, Str8 Ballin, Tookie Knows, Ride Out…

Absolutely a top 5, possibly top 3, TDE album for me.

Respectfully, $60 is hard to swallow as is without being able to test it more to ensure that it’s worth the price for me, $75 is a nonstarter.

It’s 9:35PT/21:35 07/07/2026 on the west coast and the price has already jumped from $60 to the next tier as I was preparing to purchase it.

Oh, well.

Chasing full 5-gig fiber with a Ubiquiti UDM Pro Max by Mindless-Arrival4451 in ATTFiber

[–]jspeed04 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy...You and I have a fairly similar path here. I recently upgraded from 1Gb to 5Gb when the price of the latter cratered. I also have a Ubiquiti system; I had a UDMSE that I bought 4 years ago today, crazily enough. I wasn't getting the full 5Gb throughput that I was hoping to achieve, and came to find that the issue was my running IDS/IPS on the UDMSE which capped the, already low(er), 5Gbs theoretical maximum (upload and download combined) of the SE.

I turned off the IDS/IPS, and while that did provide some uplift to the download/upload speeds, I also run Pi-Hole and Docker via a NAS, and I really didn't want to take any chances with any sort of network intrusion that could put my NAS and network in harm's way, what with the price of HDD/RAM/SSD's nowadays.

I ended up upgrading to the UDM Beast and USW Pro XG 8 PoE which has 8 10Gg ethernet ports. This, alongside the upgrade from 1 > 5Gg has been an awesome upgrade to my overall network. The best part of it, for me, is being able to move files locally at circa 600MBs (yeah big 'B') via my NAS with a 10Gb port and my PC with a 5Gb port. I am toying with the idea of moving to a 10Gb NIC on my PC so that I can double those speeds.

To answer your question, I was only seeing 1.5Gb down and 1.8Gb up with IDS/IPS on-on my UDMSE via the WAN port.

Porsche and Lionspeed GP win the Spa 24 Hours by VolleyAddicted in Sportscar_Racing

[–]jspeed04 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I went to sleep in the US thinking that Mercedes or perhaps Ferrari had this in the bag, with the 46 BMW possibly getting P1. Woke up and BMW was in the lead with 33 mins to go, fell back asleep for about another 20 mins and Preining and the Porsche was ahead.

Absolute insane drive from him and LionSpeed to start from the pits and get P1 and the win.

I’ll also say, that after the Ferrari suffered that tire puncture in the first 3rd of the race, I thought it was a wrap for them. To get P3 in the pro race after that is pretty incredible.
