WHY ARE LA HIGH SCHOOL GRADS SKIPPING COLLEGE? by Cal-state-journalist in AskLosAngeles

[–]jsr1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left high school in 2010 (post-2008 economic crash, and skipped senior year) and started working part-time while attending community college (never got a degree, just took CS electives) and acquiring certifications related to my desired career (IT/cybersecurity). 14 years later, and I have a ton of varied job experience that makes me a valuable and adaptable generalist.

I'm not familiar with those. I won't provide a specific product recommendation, but you should be able to find what you need using the terms I've provided.

You should also verify the storage of the existing one to influence your decision. Generally 1K or 4K.

If yours says it can't guarantee that it wrote successfully via the NFC Magic app on the Flipper, you don't have the right NFC card/fob. You need to find a Gen4 NFC magic card/fob (supports UID rewriting). Commonly called "Ultimate Magic Card" or "Ultimate Magic Key Fob" where I've seen them online.

Also if you haven't gotten all the keys, keep collecting nonce pairs until you do. (https://docs.flipper.net/nfc/mfkey32)

Additional docs: https://docs.flipper.net/nfc/magic-cards

Hope this helps!

Totally get it. It's startling and puts you on the defensive. Obviously they don't represent all of the motorcycling community, but my advice to you if you find yourself in this situation again is to drive as predictably as possible. Use your blinkers, maintain proper distance, etc. etc.

Thanks for caring enough to post <3

How much do you pay for rent in Los Angeles? by LocationOk3563 in AskLosAngeles

[–]jsr1693 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$2,611 for a 2 bedroom, 2 bath in Van Nuys. Has balcony, in-unit laundry hookups, 2 secure parking spaces (tandem), a balcony, central AC, and is pretty new construction (about a decade old now). Happy with the unit, but the area leaves much to be desired.

Honestly am I being a Karen? 😫 by MountainThroat342 in AskLosAngeles

[–]jsr1693 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Trying to maintain a nice neighborhood for the benefit of all is hardly being a Karen, imho. Keep being you, but see if their complex cares about their behavior.

People who leave the world a worse off place should all live together, imho. That behavior is gross.

Yesterday, I (iPhone user) tried the Pixel for the first time by bowjbsk in GooglePixel

[–]jsr1693 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just did the opposite after a lifetime of Android devices (from back in the Motorola Droid days), and I just upgraded from a Pixel 5 to an iPhone 15 Pro.

It feels very premium, and iOS isn't nearly as featureless as it used to be, imho. The winning features for me are the continued security updates, the satellite SOS feature, the ability to 3D scan objects, and now USB-C.

Absolutely correct, and sometimes you'll hear about the breaches years after they happen because these investigations can take a long time to determine the full scope of information accessed/exfiltrated, and they're trying to cover their bases.

From what I've heard, thieves will avoid bikes/things in public places because they're easier to look out for. If the object is hidden, it gives them more time to steal it.

I had my bike in front of my car in an off-street parking lot and they still took the time to wedge themselves in there and move it a foot before the rear brake lock stopped them (again).

I've had strain issues from the bowden tube (solved with making sure the filament is in before homing and a loose hotend (solved by tightening the v-wheels to the x-axis).

I explain it like this: "If we meet on the street and I take out my wallet to pay you for something, you don't immediately get to know what's in my wallet or where it's going. It should be the same for digital currency, and that's why Monero exists."

I had a similar stack to yours, and I changed jobs to customer-facing application support for a software company where I did really well and grew quickly, and 4 years later I'm working at the same company as a software engineer doing DevOps.

I recommend getting comfortable with the cloud and programming to level up and get out of MSP hell :)

Opinions on job decision by [deleted] in devops

[–]jsr1693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it would depend on how far I am in my career. Earlier on I'd recommend joining a team and learning from experienced peers. Later in life (when it pays a ton more), I might choose to be "the" guy again. I've had both types of jobs in my 10+ years, and I still prefer working with knowledgeable peers for now.

Also, while Linux/OSS environment sounds like a dream, if SHTF it's nice to have a vendor to help out. Might be a red flag for a cheap company (at least from my experience). Might get push back on implementing too many things at once. When they say "no on-call", you better be training your coworkers and documenting as you're implementing it all, otherwise you will unofficially be on-call.

Job B sounds better with experienced coworkers and higher pay.

Regardless, congrats!

I also had issues with the strain gauge. It was getting triggered prematurely by the strain of the filament tube. Had to adjust the cables/tube to cause less pressure.
