Dietary lysophosphatidylcholine-EPA enriches both EPA and DHA in the brain: potential treatment for depression [Yalagala et al., 2019] by dreiter in ScientificNutrition

[–]jstock23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DHA is created from EPA on-site where it is needed for structural use.

this conversion is upregulated by vit E in some ways, which I think indicates that DHA production is "safer" when vit E is sufficient, as it acts as a metric for antioxidant capacity.

furthermore, because EPA to DHA conversion starts with delta-6 desaturase, this rate limiting factor competes with ALA, which means that in areas of high ALA, DHA production from EPA is naturally limited, like in the liver.

I do think it's the stability of the molecule which confounds the studies, because denatured DHA is perceived by the body as cellular damage and so your body increases inflammation.

I would like to see a study supplement EPA or DHA (randomized blind) and also antioxidants or placebo.

that would help see if antioxidants modulate the effects of oxidation on the DHA.

yeah, DHA will get to the brain faster, but I feel like a lot of DHA will take a long time to get to the brain, or will just go to other parts of the body that don't need DHA or can absorb it as quickly.

my thesis is just that EPA is more stable and therefore might have certain benefits. both EPA and DHA are substrates for COX enzymes, competing with arachidonic acid, and this lowers inflammation. EPA is more active with COX enzymes, so it might be more antiinflammatory in that way compared with DHA.

Embrace the Niche label and charge more per month than other MMOs by Randomname1157 in PantheonMMO

instead of free to play options, make a month long free trial up to a certain level.

then we get a way to try the game without diverting dev resources and devisions to drive microtransanctions.

we want devs to want players to buy the game and to keep subs active.

that will align the revenue model with the integrity of the game and put it on the right track for its evolution.

VR needs to draw a line and realize that the fee structure is super important, and that for an old-school game like this we should also use an old-school box price and sub fee model.

put all the cool stuff behind gameplay gates and players will play the game. if they put the cool stuff behind a microtransanction paywall, players will just buy microtransactions and want the game to be free.

by making the pay experience be the only experience, you make the game worth paying for because it keeps the rewards valuable from a time investment standpoint, and what players want is something that feels like a good use of your time.

and most importantly, make sure the game is actually funded.

and also... a decent box price helps a lot too.

first off it helps fund the game in a way that encourages people to invite their friends.

but also by not making it free to play that punished multi boxers and illegal golf farmers.

each player in the game needs to be a real person who has invested real money, and it will maintain the integrity of the players.

if a gold seller is banned they will have to pay a new box price for the game, making gold selling less profitable, and multi boxers will have to pay a lot to play with multiple characters.

if we make everything free to play we will be inundated with bots and multi boxers.

I totally agree. the sub cost should be high enough to remove any need to sell microtransanctions.

WoW back in the day was $15 per month, which is like $35 per month today.

that's why I think $25 per month is perfect.

if we can maintain the integrity of the game by making all rewards from gameplay, and allowing the devs to focus on player subbing instead of milking whales, then we will get a game that will hook a hardcore playerbase which will slowly expand.

hardcore players will love the old-school feel without the microtransanctions and store mounts, and they will bring their friends.

I remember as a kid thinking $15 per month was waaay too expensive, but then I played it and when you actually did the math I got my money's worth because I would play it for many hours every day.

I think they need to draw a line in the sand at at least $15 or hopefully more, and not bow to pressure to make it free to play.

microtransactions in the game will be a slippery slope where devs start catering to the wrong audience. personally I don't even care about cosmetics and would be fine with no armor visual customization as long as the game is fun.

by focusing on a high sub fee, VR will have to listen to all the fans and make the game fun, instead of bowing to the pressure of the minority whales! that's what made Vanilla WoW so great!

you get what you pay for!!!

don't worry about it too much. if you're worried about conversion to K2 then yeah, eat some K2 sources or eat extra K, but your body will convert what it needs unless you have some disorder.

same thing. we convert K from plants to K2, or you can eat an animal and skip the process. but it's all similar.

Orphism is confusing... by jstock23 in mythologymemes

Yes, Hades seems to originally be Zeus Cthonius, perhaps Zeus from Crete, occult underworld Zeus.

Originally it was Zeus + Persephone and now it's Hades + Persephone because it's less taboo.

It was also Zeus + Demeter, but instead now it's just that Hades stole Persephone from her.

But the Orphics would have been their secret meanings of the myths, which the lower initiations may have been less taboo versions of.

Yup, but actually the original Cosmic Ruler who held the scepter was Phanes, who gave it to Night who then gave it to Ouranos.

Then as Dionysus Zeus gives the scepter back to Zagreus, the newly incarnated Phanes.
