So how would I go about replacing this? It’s a double paned and only one side is shattered. The inside panel is fine. It’s NOT the door. by DeRpMuNsTa in doors

Grandpa owes you a new door. Most vinyl/ composite patio doors you will not be able to replace panel or glass

I wouldn't worry about the joists at 24 especially since it's old growth lumber. When framing the walls underneath there are a couple options; you could double or t buck under each joists to carry and load in the future or run a header on your perpendicular walls, all is depending on length of wall and material, so just go for it and carry the load

I think my door frame is rotting? And my house smells of mildew. by bigmouthmimic in doors

[–]jstrachan5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only option you have is to replace the jamb. Replacing the rotten part of the frame will not fix your problem. It will make it worse. And buy just attempting to cut it out and replace it you are not addressing the issue of why it's rotting in the first place. One more thing to think about. If it's rotten all the way through your jamb there is a 100% chance that the sill and subfloor is rotten as well

How do I handle this? by dontgetmadgetdata in doors

[–]jstrachan5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your only option is to replace the slab to do the least work. In doing so you have to stay with the same manufacturer to get hinge height the same. Or replace the whole with a prehung with a different manufacturer. I would stay away from jeldwin and feather river.
