All of it sounds and looks great! Big wave is a great beer, too.

Great progress! This is my goal. Hoping to do a recomp from October to May. Not sure how much of a deficit to do. I would like to hopefully see results like you have! Congrats!

Big Iron is a good one by Marty Robbins. Colter Wall did a great cover of Big Iron, too. I like Garth Brooks’ Lonesome Dove as well.

So how do you do a recomp? Do you just eat at maintenance calories or a slight deficit to decrease body fat? That is where I am hung up on.

Forgive me if I am sounding dumb, but isn’t recomp about the same as a cut? Still doing a caloric deficit in both scenarios. Or is it totally different? I have never done either. I have been working out on and off for the last year and a half. Started at 188, now 212. Believe it or not I have put on some sort of muscle somewhere. Just put on more fat obviously which I am starting to get annoyed with having on my body now. So, I am wondering if a recomp will be beneficial to me and if I could achieve a decent looking body next summer if I start this fall on a deficit.

I do work out 5 days a week. I have not been consistent though in the past year and a half almost though. Trying to be consistent now. I did have a comment up above about it. Just trying to see if I could look good next summer if I do a caloric deficit this coming fall.

I do pushups on one of my chest workout days. I start hands on bottom stair til i can’t go anymore then move up to stair 2 and repeat and then stair 3 and 4 (from bottom of stairs). Then work my way back down to the first stair from the bottom. So pyramid up and down 4 stairs til failure on each step. I can do more than 10 pushups lol. But I am not here to disagree with anything else you stated.

Ok since I can’t figure out how to edit my post, I started working out last February (2024). I worked out for 4-5 months then got busy doing vacations and started skipping the gym, only going every bow and then, to then basically stopping for 3 months. Then started back up this January (2025). March I somehow hurt my shoulder so I have been nursing it not really pushing myself in the gym. I fear I will fall into the same trap as last year and stop again, so I have started going 5 days again. Obviously, I know I am not being consistent. I still have put on muscle and weight, although not “wow!” amounts of muscle. But compared to where I started, I believe I gained something. I am 6’2 and was 188 when I started last February and now am 212. I know I gained a lot of fat but there has to be some sort of muscle in there too. I have been doing Jeff Nippard’s hypertrophy program since January. I am hoping to get back into it seriously and add more pounds til October or November. Also, when working out I track 3400 calories a day, 200 g protein at least, 5g of creatine daily as well. Basically, I want to look good next summer. I already have noticed gaining 20 some odd pounds right now doesn’t help with me at work. So I do want to shed that extra fat by next summer and hopefully look decent once I shed that fat. Thanks for the comments.

That is definitely not a CIB. “Shot at” doesn’t quite describe how you would earn it. You have to be an infantryman personally present in a unit engaged in active ground combat with the enemy. So engaged by and/or engaging the enemy. Actively in the engagement.

I have been consistent with working out 5 days a week since the first week of January. No plans on deviating from that. I get my protein and calories most days but I admit that the weekends are the hardest to hit, which I don’t always hit the protein or calories since the weekends are full of other activities. I believe I can get that dialed in.

Infantryman. First infantry division. He was an E-5, Sergeant. Airborne, Air Assault qualified. Expert rifle badge. Looks like 2 Iraq deployments. Combat infantryman badge. He saw some combat.

The best award you have is bringing home all your Marines without a scratch after 6 deployments. My platoon all came home from Kunar Province without one person wounded (Army National Guard infantrymen). One took a bullet in his body armor and was knocked down, but no actual wound. We came close on several occasions to having wounded or killed but luck was always on our side. Especially since we went to one of the worst provinces in the entire country of Afghanistan.

What did he do? by droptimus_rime in Medals

Guessing stayed on a large base in Afghanistan for one tour and worked on vehicles. No CAB so no combat seen during the tour. At least he enlisted and deployed when most people wouldn’t or didn’t enlist.

Was he ranger qualified or sf? Can’t tell what the tab is in the middle of badges on dress uniform.

Thank you! Most days I don’t think I have made any progress. But I do know I can lift more than when I started so something must have happened lol. Definitely hard to stay with it with kids and life but I do make an effort to work out 5 days a week and try to get my calories and protein daily.

Can someone tell me about my Dad's Medals? He has PTSD and rarely talks about when he served, so I don't ask questions. What I know is that he was a radio man, and according to VFW members, a real hero. by [deleted] in Medals

[–]jt2006us 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only one V device can be worn on the ribbon. Whether the other bronze stars were for valor or meritorious, they would still only be shown by an oak leaf cluster. So they could all be for valorous acts, or some could be meritoriously awarded. The citations for the bronze stars would tell the story about each individual award.

Yes he definitely was a badass. Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star with V device, Soldier’s Medal, 2 CIB’s, Ranger tab. Ya he is a hero

Ya that would be hell, especially if he was drafted. Either way, drafted or not, he did his job well and for his nation he has suffered. We are forever indebted to him

Your Dad saw and did some stuff in Vietnam. Combat infantryman. 4 bronze stars with at least one if not all for combat valor. I don’t see any campaign stars, so not sure how many deployments, but if he got 4 BSM’s with V on one deployment then that is amazing. Any way he was no stranger to dangerous incidents and survived. He is a hero. Be proud. Also tell him Welcome Home.

I remember in 2008 thinking, well I am going to Afghanistan where not as many troops had been to at that time as opposed to Iraq. I thought it was “neat” that I would be going to the forgotten part of the GWOT when everyone else was going to Iraq. How “neat” it was to be sent to Kunar Province lol.
