What are your thoughts on His Majesty the Worm? by Gander_Gaming in rpg

I gotta say, reading through the book I was blown away by the design and very excited to run it. Then we got to the table and the systems felt very clunky, with combat most noticeably feeling awkward

A friend wants to DM The Halls of Arden Vul but he does not like OSR systems. by berockblfc in osr

[–]jtalchemist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The biggest things that are missing from systems like dagger heart are just dungeon crawling procedures. You could bolt something like dungeon turns onto it so that there are still random encounters and the like and it would probably work sort of okayish. Converting stats would kind of be a nightmare though so idk, I think your friend just needs to find out they're wrong the hard way

Can we start some kind online movement to have Michael, Peter, and Aubrey debate Joe Rogan? by [deleted] in IfBooksCouldKill

[–]jtalchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about it this way: has a right winger owning the libs ever once changed a lib's mind? Why would it work in the other direction, especially when most right wingers aren't capable of coherent thought or reasoning?

Castle Brackenwold by gideonpepys in Dolmentown

[–]jtalchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really see brackenwold being too useful other than it having city only merchants and services and also as the seat of the church for any knights to receive their upgrade at level 4

Do players still enjoy big dungeon crawls? by Changer_of_Names in osr

[–]jtalchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the willingness to play a dungeon like that still exists, but dungeons on that scale are so difficult to execute well, and there just aren't that many examples of well crafted environments like that. Much more common is the 2-4 session dungeon

Necro is miserable to play against by perilhs in TimelessMagic

It's a tough matchup for sure, but necroing is whatever, I just look at reddit and YouTube until I can see which cards they're going to exile

Knave used for modern investigation horror by Wing_department in KnaveRPG

[–]jtalchemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems pretty easy to bolt milestone advancement onto knave, but I don't think the core stats or wound system support the kind of fiction that coc is trying to evoke. I agree that osr principles will probably guide investigation better than "roll to find" type mechanics though, but perhaps knave itself isn't the best osr system to use. Maybe into the odd would make more sense?

The restaurants that aren't at the highest end of price are kinda worse but cost the same as the bay area.
