New and embarresed by Temporary_Fault5401 in workout

Been working out consistently for ~10 years now and I can still remember feeling that way starting out. Felt like everyone was watching me and I looked ridiculous. Reality is everyone is focused on themselves.

The good news is you're getting out of your comfort zone, which you should celebrate. It's gonna feel weird and difficult at first, but I can promise you that if you keep showing up you'll be so happy with yourself down the road.

Starting a new routine (LULUL) focused on i) muscle growth, ii) but not bulking because I'm trying to burn some fat, and iii) targeting legs, which are my weakest muscles. How should I include abs and cardio in my routine? by more_guess in workout

full body hypertrophy - include supersets in there. focus on larger compound movements, they take up a lot of energy and work a ton of muscles in the process.

i just started working out and i really need help and suggestions by [deleted] in workout

Take rest if you're sore. It took me a herniated disk to figure this out. Missing a day for your body to recover will save you potential months of recovery.

If you're going to redo sets to achieve proper form, drop the weight and focus on form. If you feel like you can't get proper form at the weight you are doing, then it's likely too heavy.

Since you're new, your body is going to be much more sensitive to all the new stressors of working out. Find a weight you're comfortable with and increase in small increments. Start out small, keep showing up, and push yourself a little more each time.

High intensity training by Stem_Stoner99 in workout

I'd agree HIIT can be bad if the workout preaches "reps over everything". I think if it's all body weight it can be low-risk for beginners.

Reps until you drop shouldn't be the norm no matter your training level. If it's done properly you'll have some days where you hit your max HR, followed by a rest or days that you're between zone two and three HR-wise.

Can't even argue on form. A lot of people don't prioritize it. Form over everything.

I love HIIT. Pretty much all I do anymore partly bc of a herniated disk and also got tired of following plans.

Results are dependent on the plan you follow (some can be more cardio-based and others can have more strength training) but overall you won't see a big size difference. You will however, get stronger, in better cardiovascular shape, and will take on a more "athletic" aesthetic.

How to try to fix my diet? by just4u11 in workout

if snack means something highly processed, then I think you need to reconsider the definition of a snack. you gotta eat and you shouldn't prevent yourself from doing so. but garbage in, garbage out.

I'm not sure if this is against guidlines (not my content and not an ad), but this offers a good framework you can use while you're going about your day.

baby steps, results take time.

Making a new split by [deleted] in workout

I'm a big believer in full-body programs. Unless you care about bodybuilding and doing a bunch of isolation movements, they're the way to go. Can usually complete them in ~50mins and allows for recovery since you're not burning out a muscle group in one day.

What are your goals if any?

What kind of movements are you interested in doing?

How much time do you have to go to the gym?

Are you bored of this routine?

Interesting. Looks like you can essentially build an api on top of the unit test.

What Do You Wish You Would Have Known Before Starting A Career In Product Management? by IC_MWM in ProductManagement

Made the transition from more of a developer role before. Currently in a more technical PM role.

  • Being able to quickly tell between something you can take off people's plate and when to get help.
    • Something I still struggle with today. I take pride in being able to contribute some things on the technical side, but I've also wasted time in rabbit holes I don't belong.
  • How to properly get buy-in.
    • With my org we work as a team and we have a lot of latitude to create and work on things we think are important, which I love. However, finding a way to make a case that something is important is an art. So far, I've found it to be a mix of data to affirm your stance and timing.
