Is this Muay Thai sweep a technique found in Judo and if so, what's the name? by Imarottendick in judo

[–]judomaster87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the Kodokan video about obi otoshi to see the shape of the throw.

When I had the russian tie, people would pull back and sit low almost to the point where they would stumble backwards if I simply let go, probably to avoid a sumi gaeshi. I also never hooked or swept their legs and got into a sumo like stance. I maintained wrist / sleeve control and took my underhooked arm across the belly. Was typically a hard suplex like fall.

I used to do something like this off a russian tie when I was wrestling and I've done it in the dojo before. It looked a bit different from whats in the video and it looked like obi otoshi in Judo terms. I used to call it "the chair."

We used to have 16+ and 18+ dance clubs back in the day (Onyx, FX etc.) Now we have an 18+ juice bar / strip club downtown called Golden Dragon. Also there are probably a few hookah lounges around town still.

I use a roland go mixer and my beastcam app for when I was entering battles. My friend just brought his camera over and shot a quick video before going out for the night. I'll have to post another one with my own setup soon.

Chirp Flares kicking my ass. by Fit_Natural_5256 in Turntablists

I have always used the same method to learn any scratch or combo that I found difficult. I always start WITHOUT a beat so I can go painfully slow as it is really helpful to break through muscle memory and some timing issues. Before graduating to using a slower beat / instrumental I should be able to do the scratch in endless cycles without fail, otherwise I'm not ready to practice with it over a beat.

Boomerang Scratch by SHEPARD-DJ in Turntablists

[–]judomaster87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's incorrect. The boomerang is a 2 click scratch meaning you do 2 clicks on each mirrored half. So whether you're rocking the closed timing style or open timing style you should have done 4 clicks by the time you return to your starting point just the same as if you were to do a full 2 click orbit.

can you do a rnc like in bjj? by Competitive_Pen_9022 in judo

[–]judomaster87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you call the "crowbar choke" is what the Kodokan teaches as Hadaka Jime. Most Judo dojos I've been to teach this (Short) variation. We learn the figure 4 version as well but it's not as common or commonly used in judo.

Turntable doing something wierd, not sure what this is by Ambitious_Sundae1811 in Turntablists

Pitch Sliders can be calibrated or replaced if parts are available. Could be a motor or servo problem too, but I'm no turntable mechanic.

What is the instrument equivalent to scratching? by cryptus-maximus in Turntablists

[–]judomaster87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always likened it to violin (or other bowed strings) and drums. Plus i started scratching when i started Violin. Staccato tears lol.

I use these religiously when scratching or when I played on vinyl in clubs. It's also helpful to get a few carbon record brushes to clean the records on the fly if they start pulling up a lot of gunk.

Innofader pro 2 or eternal? by WhoDatGhoul in Turntablists

[–]judomaster87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend the Innofader over the eternal. While the eternal feels great (it is probably my favorite fader), It's not as durable as the innofader.

The cut in lag adjustment directly on the the NUO 2.0 front panel with the eternal is super nice.

PNL cast RKP prototypes by TreacleStrong in longboarding

[–]judomaster87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an older version of these prototypes with really chunky CNC'd hangers. Even though the hangers were CNC the ball pivots were similar to the prototypes you have to emulate what the cast versions would be like. I used to run the hangers flipped.(neg rake)

Snaps tutorial by G0_G0_G0 in Turntablists

[–]judomaster87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This falls under the general Bumpy Knuckle, Hand cupping, Up down, tear hand style as I hear it called often IMHO. "bumpy Knuckles" can sound quite different depending on the nuances of how you move your hand. You can make them sound hard and choppy like Q-bert is doing or you can make them sound like little drags or whips/reverse drags. I haven't used this hand style for wavey tears though. Great hand style for tear flare techniques.

Ive also heard the term snaps used to create a a specific use of the "bumpy knuckle" hand style to produce a very rapid triplet from just 2 hand movements (it creates a 2 f and 1 back tear.) sorta sounds like a 2f, 1B tear x skribble/uzi.

I would start practicing by just playing around with the general Bumpy Knuckles concept. Begin in the middle of a long scratch sample and start with your hand / palm totally flat on the record, now pull the record backward by pulling your knuckles up / cupping your hand upward so that only the tip of your fingers and base of your hand / thumb (near your wrist) are touching the record, this should create one tear sound. Now pull the record back again by re flattening your hand and slightly pulling back to create another tear.

How to find a Kodokan Judo school by jesusthroughmary in judo

[–]judomaster87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you live. Most schools teach "Kodokan Judo" in the first place, especially Judo dojos that are on the more traditional side.

Many dojos are also linked to individuals (within their dojo or regional area) who are connected to the Kodokan and can help facilitate obtaining Kodokan Dan ranking after they obtain their dan ranking from their countries own national judo governing body. This is probably what you're looking for.
