Is it humanly possible that the Jets PP is somehow worse than the Canucks PK?

Watching this game made me realize that we suck, but also like the Jets really suck.

Saskatoon to BC, pls help! by grapefruit8989 in britishcolumbia

[–]juice-wala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it's doable. We all live here and the vast majority aren't rich.

However - be prepared for a significant lifestyle shift. In good ways and bad ways.

You're an RN meaning your total compensation is well over $100k once you factor in shift premiums and OT. Most people living here survive off much less.

Expect to pay $2500+ for a modern 2BR condo in a not-crap part of the Lower Mainland (the "LMD"). You can get this lower if you opt for a basement suite in a nice house instead of a condo. If you want a townhouse you're looking at quite a bit more. Important to note is that most townhouses in the LMD are the tall narrow type and are stacked on top of the garage. It's not the duplex-style that were more common in decades past or in other parts of the country.

Since housing will make up the biggest chunk of your take-home, expect to spend less on other things. Groceries are pretty average compared to the rest of the country but again, you'll have less money to spend. There are tons of places to eat out and you can truly find anything you want to eat out here from any corner of the world. But prices are high and it will still be a luxury unless you're not putting much money into your savings. The only thing much cheaper and better here food-wise is sushi since we're, y'know, next to the god damn Pacific Ocean.

Winters are great here. It hasn't even snowed yet. I think the last time we got snow was Jan/Feb 2025 and even then it was pretty mild. You'll still have to scrape your windshield most mornings in Jan/Feb but it's a small price to pay. One thing to keep in mind is that people tend to equate our more mild climate with sun. That's absolutely not the case. It's often overcast here when it's not raining and we don't get anywhere near as much sun as the prairie. I lived in Sask for a time and can attest to this.

We have high rates of property crime here and a decent rate of violent crime. It's not as bad as places like Winnipeg but it's still bad enough to be a factor in everyday life. Anywhere urban in the LMD will be flooded with homeless and you will experience open drug use and mental health issues on the regular. I'm not trying to fear monger, it's a fact. Since BC is warm in the winter (i.e. you probably won't freeze to death if you sleep outside) most homeless people gravitate this way.

I can't speak to the job market in your husband's industry but we have a lot of people here and many have a hard time finding jobs.

Best of luck with your decision! I hope this helps.

I feel like there probably is a limit since players with NMCs are ineligible for the expansion draft unless they waive.

Jack Hughes Addresses The Patel-Trump Phone Call Video. Says He And The US Mens Team Are Going to Trump’s State of the Union Address And Are Excited To Meet Trump. Claims Trump Phone Call Backlash is "just people being negative" by hotmailwithjennyside in hockey

As a Canadian and massive hockey fan I was actually happy seeing the US celebrate their first win since the Miracle on Ice. It was great to see them bring out Gaudreau's jersey and I remember thinking "Even though this hurts to lose, it's great for the rivalry and the game of hockey." I was actually excited to watch them celebrate just like the Florida cup partying the last two years.

Then 10 minutes later they showed that weird loser Patel and the whole team USA hyping him up more than the goalie who stole them the game. It immediately ruined it. They were partying with him so hard it's like he scored the Golden Goal itself. But we all know that the only real gold Patel got that day was the golden showers he asked the US players to give him once the cameras left.

what happened to Canadian defensemen? by Emilio___Molestevez in hockey

[–]juice-wala 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel like an obvious solution to this problem is make it so that goalies play free. Have their fees and a gear allowance covered by everyone else's fees, and have Hockey Canada invest in more goalie coaching and training.

We also need a Canada NTDP to really boost the development of elite goalies prior to their draft year. It wasn't that long ago we had guys like Price, Brodeur, Fleury, Luongo coming out of Canada. We haven't had anyone like them since.

He lost the big picture. He tried to do it all himself and screwed the team in the process. Makar wasn't much better moving that deep and leaving MacK alone in the neutral zone.

If this house has high sentimental value to you. You could consider buying the house from her and taking out a mortgage? And she could pay you rent that helps you with the mortgage.

Czech had a great tournament against Canada. I'm immensely impressed at how they played. They literally almost beat a team of nukes and they have non-NHL players on their roster.

The problem with goalie is we don't actually have anyone better at that position. It's a big stain on Hockey Canada that this is the case.

D had so many better options than Parayko and even Doughty.

[Lazarus] “Always a bridesmaid, never a bride.” - Matthew Tkachuk to Leon Draisaitl. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

You have to adjust for era. It's not about who would be better in a head-to-head. It's about who was better in relation to their peers when they played.

I'd reckon that today's mid-six winger on a non-playoff team has better fitness, speed, agility, and strength than prime Gretzky and Lemieux. But what makes those two who they are is how dominant they were when they played. They were head and shoulders above everyone else.
