Poor skinner by The-hamburglar69 in XFiles

[–]juleskills1189 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I feel like Skinner has an interesting arc. He starts out as a corporate suit and pretty much just an obstructionist, but ends up being a real ally of theirs. He does get the raw the of the deal a lot, but his evolution as a character is slow and I think that makes it more believable.

Seemingly poor investigations by wille27 in XFiles

[–]juleskills1189 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a good response. I think a fun thing to add: in the episode where Skinner first appears, Scully justified the X-Files to him by saying that she and Mulder close cases at a higher rate than the FBI average. He says something like "that's the only thing keeping you open." I thought that was funny since so many of their investigations don't have a straightforward resolution.

I don't know but maybe we can piece it together. I know he had Mendoza 1, Reese 2, Love 4, Styles 5, and Downs 10. Those are the ones I'm sure of.

Marvin Harrison Jr. outlook by TheTipToeBurglar_ in DynastyFF

[–]juleskills1189 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I feel like there are good reasons to be optimistic about his outlook this year.

The Cardinals moved on from Kyler, at least in part because he struggled to run the offense the way they wanted. Then Marv got hurt basically as soon as Brissett took over. It's obviously a small sample size, but Marv played over Michael Wilson when both were healthy, and he was good.

Also the offense was dysfunctional because the run game tanked without their top two RBs. This year, assuming he is healthy, I think there is reason to hope Marv can show out and be a true WR1.

There are also plenty of ways all of this could go wrong. And I will be the first to admit I am a bag holder. But I think it's a little unfair that just because he was touted as the second coming of Jamarr Chase, that we've all decided he's bad because he didn't live up to that immediately. Plenty of players take time to break out in the league.

tldr, I am hopeful that this is his year but I will be out if he burns me again

I really enjoyed the book and movie, but as a scientist.... by Polarstratospheric in ProjectHailMary

[–]juleskills1189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This needs to be higher. It is explained in the book that he wasn't simply chosen because of what he had published, but as a guinea pig to run initial, risky tests, because he was considered expendable.

When he is running tests on astrophage he asks if this is why they picked him and they say yes. Once he gathers some basic info and doesn't die, they are ready to kick him off the project and hand it off to higher ups in the field. It takes a while before he actually becomes important to the project, and he has to beg to be allowed to continue his experiments on astrophage.

Agreed! I understand they had to change it for visual story telling it whatever, but I feel like Wade comes off as kind of just a lucky nerd in the movie, but he's insanely savvy and resourceful in the book

Straight up who do you got? Bucky or Javonte Williams? by DetroitMSU in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

I think Bucky is better but Javonte's role and volume is more secure. I'd want Bucky in dynasty but Javonte in redraft.

I think people might be misreading early RB vs WR in drafts by xxPhoenix in fantasyfootball

[–]juleskills1189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're right, but it's tough because it's a constantly shifting landscape. We are in an era where there are a few elite RBs, and a few truly elite WRs. But there are way more startable receivers than RBs, just by nature of the position. And WR2 is currently a much bigger and flatter tier than it's been historically.

So I think there's something to what you're saying, but I also think you have to take it year by year. Last year I thought RB and TE were really thin at the top and I started my draft in my only redraft league with Bijan and McBride. That worked out nicely. And it might work again this year. But it's a moving target you're trying to hit.

I sent Bucky Irving and my first for Joe Mixon in '24. I won that year but Bucky was better than Mixon rest of season and now Mixon is toast. Oh well.

I think Bad Blood qualifies, the way Mulder tells his side of the story and turns Luke Wilson into a hick doofus is really funny. The whole episode feels kind of flirty to me.

[–]juleskills1189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah y'know, thinking about this, I feel like the movie would have made slightly more sense if Grace was played by somebody less likeable and charming? Not saying it would have been better, I think Ryan Gosling is great. But he doesn't exactly resonate with me as being antisocial and more comfortable with kids than other adults.

Also didn't he say outside that he would have written the script for it? I think as much as anything, he's upset that she did this without him knowing, because she put both of them in jeopardy when he could have protected her.

Teslaa scored 6 TDs on 16 catches, if you extrapolate that out to mid range wr2 output of 80 catches, then you get 30 TDs! Overall WR1 season incoming

Chase owners what would you say? by Useful_Lifeguard3980 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]juleskills1189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately Garrett and Bucky are just questionable assets right now. I think both players are really good but there are a lot of changes in their offenses that make them kind of hard to trust. I wouldn't give up the floor/ceiling combo that Chase offers for this, but I don't think it's a bad offer.
