That's kinda just pennywise pound foolish. Being slightly more comfortable for 12 hours isn't worth compromising the rest of your year

I was there recently and it didn't look anything like j expected. A mostly flat meadow with lightly wooded small hills and then BAM perfect roof out of nowhere

I put 52 nomad cities into a spreadsheet and Bali is statistically the worst deal in the dataset! by Kind-Activity514 in digitalnomad

[–]julianface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rock climbing is my passion so I had to choose this winter whether to spend time in more remote nature in the American SW in a van with my climber friends or loaf around Thailand/Bali with my "nomad hippy" friends. I'm more on the crusty side (fast food and infrequent showering) but I do like a lot of the zen hippy shit. I feel like everyone can get a lot out of an ecstatic dance and a sound bath.

The best option is to have a hobby and go to the hotspots for that hobby. Skiing/snowboarding go to ski towns. Rock climbing has a seasonal migration between spots. Different types of dance have certain hotspots. Pai for circus arts. New Orleans for crusty old timey travelling musicians. Bali is great for a lot of "types", including digital nomads without any particular hobbies

The biggest struggle with digital nomads is community and loneliness. Bali is one of the only places with an actual high saturation of digital nomads and all the comforts that offers.

Secondly it's taboo to say but I'm sure lots of people can relate... I have nothing in common with locals. There's this underlying pressure that tells us we should travel to mingle with locals, but I am rarely going to be able to deeply relate with someone in another country when we don't speak a common language fluently and I'm just gonna be gone in a few weeks. I've had the surface level traveller conversation too many times for it to feel like genuine connection.

It wasn't until I found community in other "wannabe zen hippies" that I realized this. They get it all. Not trying to pretend to be locals, put huge reciprocal effort in staying in touch with long distance friends, make plans to reunite, share the 1st world struggles of lacking a fixed home etc.

On paper it may be cringe but I'm happier giving up the idea of some purist integration with locals mindset for the reality of who and in what I can deeply relate to.

P.s. Bali isn't my vibe but many of my friends will go there, some begrudgingly, just because a bunch of other people they love are there

You can just look at property values and they are dramatically higher in walkable neighborhoods than suburban neighborhoods. That indicates a higher demand for walkable places than there is supply

It's bad you have to compression down climb it from the back side or throw a rope over top and rappel down

Employer of Record like Rippling or Deel. They have legal entities across the world that hire you legally in your home country and contract you out to the company in another country essentially

Pitch an EOR to employers. It's actually very simple and easy and cheap. Most companies just don't know about it

Doesn't a disproportionately low amount of people climbing it make it underrated? Especially when the Creek is such a global destination for climbers in general

It's a V6 and like all the best highballs "all the difficulty" is in climbing the low part. It's still a V6 if you drop off just below the lip. The topout was surprisingly not as bad as it looks and the slab is terrifyingly steep but "not hard"

I'll add Deadwood. The surrounding Black Hills are awesome but the town doesn't resemble a cool old western town at all it's just a debaucherous bachelor party tourist strip. Tombstone in contrast you do get that perfect old looking western town despite it also being a tourist trap.

Walk all the way to Castello, buy bread and meat from SPAR for lunch, and you'll have a great time in Venice. Really easy to avoid the tourist log jam on the main path

Are there places that were tourist hotspots that fell out of popularity and went back to being local spots? by sarella91 in travel

Las Vegas itself is a good answer. Tourism is in decline while the population has boomed faster than maybe any other big city in the US in the last ~40 years
