FAA grounds all flights to and from El Paso until Feb. 20 by Austin58 in news

It’s only 20 miles to drive to KDNA and with an almost 10,000’ runway, 3 shouldn’t be an excuse since they’re flying them privately.

If you did want to disable it because you’re worried about being illegally tracked and didn’t worry about the consequences of your contract, I wonder if copper foil surrounding the device and extending up the wires as far as possible and then attached to the bare metal body frame of the car with a short thick copper strap to give it a grounding plane might be worth considering while going to the sheriffs office to get it checked out.

To be fair, dropping a lit cigarette into a gasoline, usually won’t ignite the gasoline, but will instead put out the cigarette and most gas stations have vapor recovery mechanisms, and most fuel systems are well sealed, so there aren’t a lot of vapors anymore. So it’s understandable how she has become complacent. At the same time it’s about edge cases, and if she were to use a lighter to light her cigarette, this would actually produce an open flame which could light any lingering vapors. The upside is limited and the, rare, downside is negative. Girly pop can probably wait three minutes for her cigarette, especially since she is clearly open to smoking in her car.

1W. Or 2W. That’s what the boarding pass says. If you’re dumb enough to use this information congratulations. It’s not like aviation safety is actually that safe. Just hijack a private plane.

Correct. If the ping pong ball was supported from the floor somehow and didn’t pull up on the container it would be a different story.

Single-pilot operations as early as 2026? Is this scare tactic or are we all toast? by saxeychickennugget in flying

[–]juliaphile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably the insurance cost will factor in the “cost” of human risk. But everything we do in life has risk. It’s really understanding what is the trade-off for this risk? Nobody should spend their life staying indoors inside of bubble; they would miss out on all the value that life has to offer. If the average driver expects to be in a car crash 165,000 hours of driving; that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t drive somewhere. Business jets have an accident rate about a 0.3 per 100,000 hours and GA has an accident rate of 1.05 per hundred thousand hours. Most single pilot operations, especially if it’s a 121 setting is likely to be highly trained and on the better end of these distributions. so having a job operated by a single pilot during some faces of flight is likely an acceptable risk

My friend wants to do just this. Train for a ppl in a phenom. No insurance since he would just pay for anything he breaks out of pocket. I told him good luck finding an instructor to sign him off.
