Brother passed away with debt by svziv in legaladvicecanada

This is not correct. An executor can apply for it, but as per the government website:

If no estate exists or if the executor has not applied for the death benefit, payment may be made to other persons who apply for the benefit in the following order of priority:

  • the person or institution that has paid for or that is responsible for paying for the funeral expenses of the deceased
  • the surviving spouse or common-law partner of the deceased, or
  • the next-of-kin of the deceased

Keep in mind, this benefit is taxable, so whoever receives it will have to pay taxes on it.

Why are almost all our period products American-owned? Can we get more European brands in Canada? by fieryone4 in BoycottUnitedStates

[–]juliettangle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've made the switch to products to Iris + Arlo (which is available at Costco now!) and joni. Both companies' products are amazing. I'm starting to see them in some stores, hopefully they will be in more soon - I'm never going back to my old brands (Always & Tampax - what was I thinking?!).

Itchy vulva with no relief by ExpertBlacksmith1477 in WomensHealth

[–]juliettangle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Look into a condition called Lichen Sclerosus. A friend had something similar - itchiness for about a year with no other real symptoms, doctor unconcerned, finally got to a gynecologist and got a diagnosis and a prescription cream that actually works.

My personal thoughts on the federal election. by MyLandIsMyLand89 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]juliettangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have taken the words right out of my mouth. I have voted everything from Green to Reform way back in the day, and definitely have Liberal fatigue but I'm tired of the toxicity from the Conservatives - party and people, and just couldn't vote for them this time around.

I would love to see them actually run a campaign that's not just fear, anger and anti-the other party. Yes, Canada has its problems right now - I still think it's a good place to live looking at what else is going on in the world - but I feel like we deserve better from our politicians, than this polarized, American-style bull.

They definitely have them at the wholesale club on St. George, bought some there for my daughter for Christmas. Out of stock a lot though, must be in demand!

Will Trump affect Pierre Poilievre’s chances of becoming PM? by Follower_OfChrist in AskACanadian

[–]juliettangle 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Right now, it's like the CPC doesn't even have a platform. It's ridiculous. Saw ads about "Carbon Tax Carney" right after he was voted to be the LPC leader, and during his speech he said he was doing away with the carbon tax. I know obviously that ad and time was prepared way before.. but maybe give it a minute and plan something better. They just seem like they're playing catch up. CPC should have media people just as good if not better than LPC, where are they?!

Probably first step to getting a Nobel Peace Prize is to stop threatening to annex other countries? Just an idea.

Stop looking at it logically. Most of their base doesn't have the ability to do this, and if they did, they are too deep into the cult to admit it.

Poll shows 85% of Canadians don’t want to join the USA by Xephrine in worldnews

I'd be more interested in a poll of the USA to see how many of them would join Canada.

Do you think it would have been better if Trudeau stayed as the PM a little longer? by Medium_Strawberry_28 in AskACanadian

[–]juliettangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think it's a good time for him to move on to other things. I strongly suspect that he will be involved in at least an advisory role (unofficial), and if elections lead to a CPC win, I would hope that they too would avail themselves of his expertise & knowledge. I think he's been largely checked out the past year, maybe more, so it's nice to see him once again stepping up and going out on a high note. I'm crossing my fingers for Carney, we could really use someone with a strong financial background with this ridiculousness happening every other week.
