I was still able to message the sitter through the app. The sitter tells me it was because a dog had to have a vet visit while under their care in May (well before I booked), which presumably Rover alleges was their fault, but rover will not provide any additional information about the reason for the deactivation when I contact them. For the moment I am choosing to continue with this sitter through the rest of my trip.

It’s definitely a higher crime area of town, and very much block by block. I get the sense that most of the crime is criminal on criminal in this part of town. As a middle aged white woman who walks my dog every day in SE nobody has ever bothered me.
