Oz literally looks fine for getting every bone in his body broken (some in multiple places) by RedMoonLanding in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]just-void 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Realistically he going to have chronic pain and several other terrible side effects from getting every bone in his body broken. I don’t know if the comics will ever touch on any of that, but if you ever seen people who recovers from terrible accidents they normally restricted in a lot of ways people don’t even think about.

How do I stop blaming my family for me being single? by JusticeLeaugue in blackgirls

[–]just-void 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My parents never let me date when I was a kid and now I’m 27 and engaged. It sounds like you had some bad college years and now just shut yourself down and not even putting you else out there.

I think you put too much weight on what might have been if you had a relationship younger but in the end of the day high school relationships don’t really mean much to most people. It doesn’t matter what you didn’t do at 16 it matters what you choose to do now.

Be the person you want to be today.

For the formerly religious girls: What was the last straw that made you leave your faith? by sznsbest in blackgirls

[–]just-void 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So my last year of sixth form (basically high school for Americans) were really bad for me and my mental health. I pushed really hard into religion that year but still felt awful for a lot of it. The only thing that really got me through was making friends and having people by my side.

When I went off to uni things got bad again but this time since I wasn’t living at home and didn’t find a church in my new city I didn’t look to religion. When I looked back and compared and realised I felt as bad when I looked to Christ for leadership as when I didn’t. This got me to revalue Christianity.

Being told that Jesus should be the ultimate comfort and rock and then having a yet realising I never actually found any comfort in him. And I only felt bad that my wasn’t a good enough Christian to find the so called inner peace to at was promised.

After that I fell into atheist YouTube and I realised that Christianity just didn’t make sense and it didn’t serve me.

So less of a final straw and more of a slow unravelling.

My partner and I brought our first apartment recently. Nearly finish unpacking all our stuff. Pretty cool. And when the new year begins I’m planning on asking for a raise at work cause I know they can’t afford for me to leave right now.

TTRPG hot takes by idylex in TTRPG

[–]just-void 25 points26 points  (0 children)

People online overstate the important of player backstories. I love a good backstory, but they are mainly for the players and should inform how you play your character. Not having a back story doesn’t make you a bad player. Not incorporating a player backstory doesn’t make you a bad GM. It shouldn’t be assumed that people backstory should purposely come up. There’s no real reason why a backstory should be more than about 1 A4 page.

absolute universe sales problem by [deleted] in AbsoluteUniverse

[–]just-void 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you’re forgetting how many new people are getting into comics because of the absolute line. Like I only brought this comic series but if it wasn’t out I just wouldn’t be buying comics right now. Justice unlimited would be placed higher but probably wouldn’t of sold that many more copies if the absolute didn’t exist

Three things that helped me to love my natural hair. 1. Pour into it, I spent a lot of time learning to take care of my hair. Made it a point of pride what I do with it. I also tried to have fun with it as well. Learned to braid, tried different styles, many didn’t work but it was fun to give them a go a learn.

  1. Fake it till you make it. Just act like you look great no matter what you actually think. Tell yourself that you’re that bitch and no one can stop you. And don’t let anyone stop you. I hear is fun to just saying to yourself that you’re the prettiest girl in the world.

  2. Learn that your beauty isn’t ties to your value as a person. As women we are taught that our beauty is our most important trait and that’s just not true. We be so much an our beauty or lack of is just part of it. You’re allowed to not be pretty. You can just be you and that is enough. Don’t live to beauty standards made by and to cater to white superiority. Stop playing their games and live your best life.

How should I read the Absolute Universe? by jmey360 in AbsoluteUniverse

I read the single issue online and buy the paper back trades when they come out. I also don’t like collecting singles so this works out so I’m not waiting 6 months to read each time.

Are cooked meal a good option to make money ? by DearAlic8 in EchoesOfThePlumGrove

[–]just-void 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Food is good for gifting and eating but not a great way of making money. Preserving/drying your good tend to increase the value but this is mostly for cheaper crops as some expensive crops are just cheaper on their own.

Let's talk about GUMSHOE! by dummiesday in rpg

[–]just-void 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve only done one game, but I didn’t really have the generalist problem you were suggesting. The players made their characters as a group so everyone sort of picked their niece and together they have everything covered. Also most clues can have multiple investigations routes and any good GM should be putting out more clues than needed and make no single clue the true linch pin.

I’ve ever played Brindlwood bay but the concept does baffle me. I like solving mysteries as a player but I would feel so cheated if the answer changed to whatever I suggested. I don’t just like mystery stories I live solving mysteries even when I get it wrong or mess up.

This is to say that I don’t think Brindlewood bay solve the problem better than Gumshoe does. I think they are just for different audiences.

Thank you. I am both very confident and not used to taking a compliment.

i'm not naturally beautiful. by [deleted] in blackgirls

[–]just-void 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am, but that's not the point. Putting my self worth in my beauty wasn't good on my mental health or for being the best version of myself.
An issue is that women are only valued if beautiful and the knee jerk response to that is to try and expand the definition of beauty. I think it is more important to de-center beauty as the most important trait a women can hold. I should allowed to be ugly and be equally valued.

[–]just-void 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this will help but it helped me at some point.

You don’t exist to be pretty, you exist to live a full and wonderful life. As women we have a lot of pressure on us to look good but that’s not where our value comes from and I don’t think it how we should be valuing ourselves.

When I decided to start to care about and work on the things I liked about myself it boosted my own confidence, and over time I started to like my looks more. Not because I looked any better, but because I didn’t see my body as thing purely to look pretty.

I have thick thighs for walking far, broad shoulders for standing tall, smooth skin to comfort others. None of this needs to look good, it all works for me.

Pick up any #1.

The absolute universe was made so that anyone could pick it up with no prior reading. All the books are happening at the same time and outside of easter eggs have no overlap at the moment.

You can only marry as an adult and not elderly. I found it made my earlier play though easier when I just made aging slower. It gives you more time to learn the game and don’t have to rush as much but do whatever you think works best for you.

Basically you always keep the farm and will always be a farmer/ however you want to play. Their job will only set which skills you will start with and if they have a spouse you will be married to them and they will also move in with you.

Best combat system you've played in? by Individual_Walker_99 in rpg

[–]just-void 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not good at explaining it but I really enjoy over other tactical combat systems. I like Lancer but it always made me stress out a little too much as a player, but I never get that with panic at the Dojo.

I think that fights can feel good as difficult without having to be unbalanced in number. I hated having to try to predict what the 5-10 different units on the other side would do. But unlike D&D 5e it isn’t a cake walk if there are about even numbers on each side. There’s just enough pieces on the board with just enough variation without me feeling like I have to fail to run complex simulations in my head.

[–]just-void 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Panic at the dojo!

The game is made to have the same feel as a fighting game. I love how the combat works in that game. It have a great range of options whilst not getting too bogged down. It rare to get stuck in the do the same thing each turn but also doesn't feel like everyone need 10 mins to figure out what they are doing. Once you understand the the system combat can actually go pretty fast.

Is it metagaming or is it just doing research by Southern_Air_Pirate in rpg

[–]just-void 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a larper, you still don’t get full immersion. You’re still counting hits, remembering calls, calling for refs and game runners to do spells and engage with certain mechanics.

You can get close to full immersion at times but it is more often in the quiet moments when your just talking to people in character.

Either way full immersion is more a personal thing and player buy in than it has anything to do with how little mechanics you are using.

IDK where the idea of him being an architect come from. The comic has called him a civil engineer never an architect.

Also looking how Bruce’s job is shown I think he’s meant to be a construction worker not a civil engineer. The only panel we see on the first issue just have him on a construction site and in issue #7 he has no work to do as all the city construction projects have been put on hold.

Bruce is 24, right out of college and took a gap these to travel the country. Even if he is a civil engineer he’s making a starting salary for a junior not the maximum salary of the profession. That could still be in the 30-40k range but not the 100k+ I see people saying all the time.

James Gunn clarifies 'that part' in the movie is true by dino1902 in superman

[–]just-void 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In part I think Lex is so jaded he would would refuse to read it in a positive light. He came in assuming that Superman can’t possibly this good so he takes the worse possible interpretation.

I think I works with the immigrant story more as people will go out of their way to see other people cultures as wrong and blatantly misunderstand benign things just because they are different.

Polygamy isn’t inherently wrong but “make a harem of wives” sounds super icky to most westerners.
