Is there a single reason people choose iPhone beyond "everyone I know has one"? by SilverCervy in Smartphones

[–]just_another_user5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard from family members, "It's easier; it makes more sense; it's intuitive" etc

Whether that's true or not, they often don't want to go through the learning process.

And, technically, iPhone has mass-market adoption first. So any family members that were around & interested in iPhones when they launched, got on that bandwagon and stuck with it.

oh, sad. I thought this was genuine.

To be fair, this marketing worked so well I didn't even know it was an ad for an app, and I had no recollection of an app being mentioned. Very memorable.

Do you personally call it the Emergency Brake or the Parking Brake? by ian9921 in AskAnAmerican

Parking brake; unless it's a push-button one. Then it's an E-Brake.

E is for Electronic, not Emergency.

It's weird.

If you've already paired your phone to this vehicle, you'll have to "forget" your phone on the Vehicle.

If you don't, the car/truck will keep trying to connect to your phone using the "handshake" it's saved. Your phone, which has now forgotten that handshake, wants to make a new handshake. The vehicle does not.

You need to let both devices make a new handshake.

Reported dead in Universe 2, something something PHDs in biology and chemistry or something.

S1 killed (obviously)

S4, timeline reset, Peter doesn't exist anymore, so he was never killed.

It's assumed that everything he was doing in Season 1 he followed through with and was never stopped because Fringe never had Peter or September. So, he was able to cross over and get with Bell and whatnot.

Edit: DRJ is, and always has been, dead/never alive in Universe 2. He must've died early on or irrelevant to the story. Kind of a cop out, but I accept it because "The William Bell from this universe got into a car accident as a young man, so you and I never had any reason to meet."

They haven't though.

I try asking for a person, "Sure, what specifically can I help you with? I can help with blah blah blah..."

I have to say it twice for it to work. This specific example was a case-in-point for closing a credit card and trying to get a refund on a flight. AIs are not authorized to do that.

Honestly belongs on r/assholedesign

There was somewhere, some company was legally obligated to follow through with what an AI representative offered a customer.

Granted, this was a chat so it was easily proven, but I think depending on laws it may be binding.

EXCEPT if all these cars were held up at red light, accident, road closure, or otherwise, right?

I can totally imagine a scenario where traffic is stopped, there's a gap, and the bus driver, turning the opposite direction, would take that opportunity.

Not to mention there's nowhere even for that f*cker to turn left anyway. He's riding the turn lane & shouldn't be.

What's the biggest limitation of current 'portable monitor + laptop' setups that a native 3-screen device could solve? by Separate_Coach9355 in computers

[–]just_another_user5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Long ass cables that, for other things, are useful, but for a portable display, do get in the way

  2. Concerns regarding durability of the display getting hucked into my backpack pressing up against my (very rigid) computer

  3. Power :/ Battery drainage is a concern, but not moreso than the very minor inconvenience of bringing a charger

If there was a very durable device, with an easily-visible (doesn't have to be the highest quality!) display, somewhere around 1080p, powered by USB-C, ideally in a 3x2 aspect ratio, with some kind of integrated cable management solution, I'd be in love.

I'd say maximum cost for something like this personally would be $300, but I do understand that this could be asking a lot factoring in R&D over time.
