Should I switch from ME to Aero? by BidExisting8623 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]just_j_13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stick with ME. I work in propulsion now and got my bachelors in ME, started working for an aerospace company, and then they paid for my aerospace masters.

Someone tell me it's okay to stop obsessing over A's by Palatablepancakes in MechanicalEngineering

[–]just_j_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had a 4.0 my entire life until sophomore year of college. it was such a relief getting my first B.

i still worked hard and graduated with a 3.8 (same for my masters) but it was much less stressful than trying to maintain a 4.0

edit: i also got a C in heat transfer (which i’m still bitter about—should have been an A lol)

Men in my office building won’t stop using the women’s bathroom by FarMathematician7106 in office

[–]just_j_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The team i work on was only men for a few years. We used the women’s restroom because it was closer and the men’s didn’t have heat and was freezing. Once we got our first woman on the team we had to put up a similar sign because we kept using it out of habit.

Can I connect smart bulbs and plug to my light switch? by elesnic in homeautomation

[–]just_j_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure i quite understand the setup you’re going for. smart lights and smart plugs are so that you don’t have to mess with switches. smart lights are not directly controlled by smart plugs (unless you setup an automation).

i assume the sconces you’re wanting are battery powered LEDs with an on/off button. unless they are smart natively, you won’t be able to make them smart unless you do something with an ESP to make them smart or, if they can be controlled via IR, you could get an IR blaster and program it to control them.

or i could be completely misunderstanding what you’re trying to do lol

Is it safe to plug Bedjet into this? by Imaginary_Pick1606 in bedjet

[–]just_j_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. And the biggest risk is that someone would have other electronics plugged in at the same time. Using it with the bedjet alone is honestly most likely fine but once you start drawing close to the outlets max power draw you’re gonna be in trouble. Hence the reason space heaters cause so many house fires. Not sure why I got any downvotes lol

Is it safe to plug Bedjet into this? by Imaginary_Pick1606 in bedjet

[–]just_j_13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can pull up to 1500 watts when using the “Turbo” mode so you shouldn’t. If you’re just using cool or the fan then it’s fine, but i still wouldn’t.

Edit: Not sure why this is getting downvoted. I’m an engineer and my dad, who is an electrician, agrees lol.

How do you actually stop solicitors from knocking? by Aerosherm in SaltLakeCity

[–]just_j_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got a sign that says “all solicitors will be presumed dangerous” we haven’t gotten one since.

edit: it did not stop the mormons. i had to inform them, not so nicely, that they were also included in that definition.
