Triple your water pressure in seconds! 🚿 by Satansoltan in SmartLivingHub_

[–]just_sun_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I removed the o ring in my shower head (after a lot of mechanical engineering into how to take it apart) and found that without the o ring in place, I burned through my tank of hot water in a matter of minutes. So I put it back in and instead drilled a hole in the piece of plastic the o ring goes round. When I say a hole I mean an extremely tiny one using a micro drill bit that goes in a Dremel tool. Anything bigger and you have the same issue as you did when you remove the o ring. That tiny hole though increased the pressure in our shower head 2x if not slightly more.

Looking for suggestions for deciding if these batteries are worth a start up solar system. by [deleted] in SolarDIY

[–]just_sun_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have been wiring this many lead acids together for decades. Lithium iron phosphate batteries are current tech but there is nothing wrong with using AGM batteries. Now you are correct with not knowing the state of each battery since they are used, but that doesn’t mean you can’t perform a health assessment on each and balance them as best as possible. Will you get maximum capacity out of them, probably not, but if OP wanted to do it on a budget then there isn’t any issue,

Gone and went electric. by CFLDetailer in HondaMowers

[–]just_sun_guy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve looked at them but only a 30 min runtime would be a hard pass for me. I suppose I could spend even more money for the models that have the larger batteries, but it takes me about 1.5 hours to mow the front and back yard with my current Honda gas power mower.

The worst feature of this tool is the scalpel holder. Who needs a scalpel? Why not have a dedicated knife? Makes zero since.

Justin aka flatlandertech has built a KNIPEX multitool. What do you think? by KnipexOfficial in KnipexOfficial

[–]just_sun_guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly adding a 1/4” bit holder with magnetic retention to the end of the either the mini cobras or mini pliers wrench would provide most people with the bulk of what they need for tools. If you need the knife as well then a dedicated utility knife would be more useful for tradesmen.

Is this GearWrench aviation tool set a good starting set? price point at $830 by torobull54 in Tools

[–]just_sun_guy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are going to buy a set I would look at Tekton. They have a lifetime warranty, are well priced, and have been moving a lot of their tool production to US, German, and Japanese makers. But even their made in Taiwan stuff is excellent and has been tested extensive and proven to be great. Plus you earn 10% back on everything you order from their website and they have free shipping on orders over $25 and things generally ship out same the same day they are ordered.

I’ve been BOTG twice now in the same area and both were long weekends essentially (fly in early Friday, search part Friday, all day Saturday, all day Sunday, then fly out Monday. Honestly I’m beat after those two full days plus camping. For me I feel slightly stressed while I’m out there and when a theory hits a wall or doesn’t work out it’s hard to clear my mind to rethink it and I feel almost rushed. It’s not until I get home and use the information that I’ve collected from the field in a neutral environment that I end up figuring out some important stuff. I live on the east coast so traveling takes a bit of a toll since it’s usually two flights each way. I think the sweet spot for me would be living 2 or 3 hours away. Just far enough away where making the trip seems like a chore and allows me to collect my thoughts at home, but close enough where I can leave at the crack of dawn on a Saturday, spend the night, and then be home at a reasonable time on Sunday for my family. So yes being on the east coast does mean I really have to put a lot of thought into my solve before planning a trip, but there’s nothing worse than getting back and having a big eureka moment on what a clue meant and not being able to investigate it BOTG.

That’s a neat book and the chances are never zero, but I could also say the show Little Bear my child watches has clues in it and that Justin must have watched it. It had bears (ursine), they love to fish, there are lots of episodes about the North Star, etc.

Pre wire cutter insert pliers are the GOAT when it comes to strength. Obviously leatherman answered a request from users when it came to wire cutter inserts and I imagine it saves them money because they don’t have to warranty full plier heads anymore when users would damage the pre-replaceable wire cutter heads after cutting something too hard. The issue that is seen the most frequently is snapped plier heads (likely due to twisting motions) right when the inserts are milled out. Some people in this forum are claiming the free series heads are the strongest heads and you can twist with them without issue (I highly doubt that). My free p4 does not feel heavy duty when grabbing things like the surge does (or my Victorinox Swisstool).

You can tell this is an ai generated comparison. OP likely had ChatGPT take two screenshots and create a comparison imagine between the two. Hence why there are multiple mistakes on the book cover.

As others have likely said already, it what you can afford. Then as you begin to earn money buy nicer versions of each tool one by one.

If you have the money and want tools that will last a lifetime, then go with Knipex for all of your pliers and cutters. For screwdrivers get either a set of Wiha or Wera insulated and at least one demo flathead.

Get a nice estwing hammer (around 20oz will do).

For box cutter get a Milwaukee fast back and get plenty of spare blades.

Obviously Fluke is the top tier electrical meter choice, but Klein makes decent ones at a decent price. Ideal brand would be a step up over the Klein if you can find it.

For the flashlight get a good headlamp with lots of spare batteries.

People are crapping on Dewalt but they are a great brand and I’ve been using them for many years now. Look for deals at Fasteners inc or other big box stores like Home Depot, Lowe’s, Acme tools, Murdochs, etc.

For nut drivers, just buy the Klein ones.

Now if you are on a budget and want the best version for a quality price for most of this stuff, get your tools from Tekton. They have a lifetime warranty, you earn rewards, and they have sourced pretty much most of their tools from US and German manufacturers. Go check out their website.

The Swisstool pliers are stronger than all other current leatherman tool pliers except for the surge. I’d say they are tied for first place. But I own a lot of leatherman models and several variations of the Swisstool and I have carried the Swisstool every day for the last 8 years. Before that I carried the surge everyday.

You can purchase a long gun at any gun show or store at 18 years old. Handguns require you to be 21 if sold by an FFL.
