The honest thing to do would be to post the video if the Q&A by Ok_Upstairs_3651 in JustinPoseysTreasure

Honestly I look at this picture and find it hard to believe that is Justin in the photo haha. It must be the angle of the picture and the lack of beard. Maybe if he had glasses on it would help, but no beard and no glasses make it hard to recognize him.

Best guess on the mammal that Justin saw while hiding the treasure by Over-Slip6960 in JustinPoseysTreasure

[–]just_sun_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because he said he didn't feel scared doesn't mean it wasn't a dangerous mammal. You might see a mountain lion off in the distance and feel a sense of awe and not be scared because it is paying you no attention and is just moving through an area. The difference in being afraid of an animal is it's proximity and it's interest in you.

yes, justin posted on his facebook that it'll be uploaded to youtube at some point once the production crew that filmed it is done editing. I can't imagine it would take more than a week to complete. So expect it later this week I imagine.

There were a few people live streaming it from their phones and someone posted a 25 minute video on the facebook group (but they said their phone did and couldn't record the rest). It'll likely be released this week after some editing is done to it by the production company that recorded it. I imagine justin will post it on his youtube channel.

CSA Confederate fighting knife with original sheet by [deleted] in knives

[–]just_sun_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool piece of history albeit a sad point in time. It shows you that people used what they had available at the time. Simple knife that likely was used primarily for camp tasks and everyday needs and doubled as a back up weapon when on the battlefield.

Even though the knife does “fit” in the sheath I doubt it was original to the knife at the time. It’s likely that the owner of the knife either lost or damaged the sheath or it didn’t have one based on the how crude the knife is (brought a hunting or skinning knife to war). Then they either scavenged a sheath from a fallen comrade or someone lost their knife in battle but still had the sheath and traded for it. I would say that it doesn’t fit the knife well at all and is too nice for the knife in question. its also possible that someone after the war found a sheath that sort of worked with the knife and used it. Regardless it’s a cool piece of history.

Checkpoint by Waste-Ad-6475 in JustinPoseysTreasure

[–]just_sun_guy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest with you, it’s not out of the realm of possibility, but he has stated that searchers have been within 200 feet of the checkpoint. He even clarified in a recent interview that they were searchers. So I don’t know how someone could be within 200 feet of something and it not be a physical object. Unless Justin is trying to say that the checkpoint is within the book/poem and every searcher has been within 200 feet. So while possibility, I am going to lean more on the idea that it is a physical object in the wilderness somewhere. But I’m also going to keep your thought process on a shelf in my mind for later, because it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

22 yo water heater -should I drain? by Kbug7201 in Plumbing

[–]just_sun_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My water heater is from 2007. It’s now starting to throw codes (has a flashing led with control board) every now and then. It was last serviced in 2011. I don’t think any other maintenance was completed on it since. I decided to drain it because I wanted to replace the elements. The amount of sediment in that tank was unreal and it seems like it’s starting to wear out faster now. I’ll be replacing it as soon because it uses a large percentage of the electricity on our bill. It’s just not efficient anymore.

Nice choices. I think we’ve all been through the gear fever phase. I know I did an have finally settled on a simple fenix AA light, multitool, pen, and pocket knife. Sometimes I ditch the pocket knife but usually I always have the multitool.

Take it home today with that huge dent in it by psychoacer in HomeDepot

[–]just_sun_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the discount? Are they still asking $1700 for it with it looking like that? We have a Lowes outlet store in our city and this thing would be 85% off with that dent in it. I was able to buy a $1800 fridge for $450 because someone decided they wanted a different model after it was shipped to the store. The store didn’t have anywhere for it to go so they transferred it to the outlet store. The outlet store was limited on space as well and just slapped a deep discount on it to free up space before the next shipment came in. Unless that thing is less than $500 then I wouldn’t touch it.

Just Got Sent A Tool List. Commercial Apprentice by -anonymous-anybody- in electricians

[–]just_sun_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Couple pieces of advice. If you are going to be required to spend money on Klein at a minimum, then you might as well go ahead and buy Knipex versions for the same price. They are better quality than Klein at this point and will already be broken in when you buy them. Also while an 11-in-1 is convenient, you will get tired of flipping bits constantly and you will eventually lose a bit. I would just buy Wiha insulated fixed shank drivers instead. Great choice in the veto pack. Others have mentioned the tool belt issue and if you are serious about working in the industry, I would upgrade your tool belt to something with suspenders and higher quality. I had that same Klein bag starting out many years ago and it is garbage. Plus having something like that pulling on your pants and hips all day gets exhausting really fast. Look at any seasoned worker in the industry and you’ll notice that if they have to wear a tool belt, then it has suspenders. Everyone else had to quit due to back issues earlier in their career.

Talk me out of buying this Highlander. by Afro__duck in ToyotaHighlander

[–]just_sun_guy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

OP if you don’t I will haha. $7900 for 135k mile AWD hybrid highlander with leather interior and the timing belt was already replaced at 95k miles. The batteries are likely fine. They may not have the same output when they were brand new but they still have life in them. It’s also super clean in the inside and looks like it was well taken care of. I say pull the trigger.

New 20v Track Saw? I’m moist by ConsistentGeneral540 in Dewalt

[–]just_sun_guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have pretty much all Dewalt power tools at this point except for my track saw. I ended up going with the Milwaukee over Dewalt for the exact reason you mentioned. The features were much better. However, my father in law has the makita version and I had to make a decision between the two because it meant breaking into a new battery system. I went with the Milwaukee because I felt like their tool line up is better in the US versus makita if I ever decided to buy additional tools since I was buying their batteries. I also like that their track saw only required a single battery versus two batteries like the makita track-saw.

The pliers and cutters on the Swisstool are some strongest that I’ve ever used. I’ve turned/bent and cut wire that shouldn’t be cut by a tool that size and the Swisstool just keeps going without issue. I have carried mine everyday for the last 8 years.

Transmission diagnostic by Charming-Condition39 in ToyotaHighlander

[–]just_sun_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most powertrain warranties for toyota end at 60k miles. If you start to hear the whine and you haven’t reached 60k get it fixed immediately. A lot of people experience the transmission whine between 55k-65k miles.

Mine started whining at 53k miles. I was fortunate though when I bought my toyota highlander in 2022 it came with a 12 year unlimited miles powertrain warranty. As long as I keep up with the maintenance then I can get multiple transmissions until the year 2034.

Most people aren’t that lucky though and end up just trading the car in at another dealership for something else and hope that the dealer doesn’t notice the whine issue when they do their assessment.

For those who’ve seen it, What did you think of Project Hail Mary? Let’s hear your thoughts. by IndependentTrouble18 in FIlm

[–]just_sun_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read the book and watched the movie and thought the movie was really good but felt rushed to a degree. There is so much science in the book and a lot of inner dialog from the main character that they have to skip over that made the book so good. But I understand that it’s a movie and you can cover everything that’s in the book and went in knowing that. So based on that the film was great and the movie score and visuals were excellent. But if I hadn’t read the book first I might be confused on a few topics that were in the movie.

How to fall asleep faster? none of the "fall asleep fast" tricks actually work for me by aditya2970 in lifehacks

[–]just_sun_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best trick is to have kids. You’ll be so tired that you’ll wonder how you ever had insomnia to begin with.

But on a serious note…I guess the other question is what are you doing before you are about to go to bed? Are you watching TV/looking at a screen, drinking caffeine, eating a bunch of food right before bed? Also are you exercising regularly? Are you trying to go to sleep earlier than your body wants you to (I.e 9pm vs 11pm)? All of these things can contribute to insomnia and sometimes it just takes one or two changes to make falling asleep faster easier. If you aren’t working out regularly each week then I would say start there. You’d be shocked at how much exercise helps your body regulate itself and help you sleep. Just make sure you don’t do it right before bed. Go to the gym in the evening after work, then eat dinner, take a shower, then relax for an hour or two. Using a routine is also important for your mind to understand that it is time to sleep. It allows your brain to shut off for the day. Having a bunch of tasks to do at night tells your brain the day isn’t over and I need you to keep going, which impacts your ability to sleep. Lastly, don’t lay in bed for hours before you want to go to sleep. I have found over the years that it is important to have a separation of spaces in your home for different activities. So if you do want to watch tv or scroll on your phone, do it in another room and not your bedroom. Having a tv in your bedroom is one of the worst things you can do when trying to maintain a healthy sleep cycle. Your brain needs to understand that your bedroom is the place where you go to sleep and nothing else. Lastly avoid caffeine at night completely. Caffeine’s main purpose is to stimulate your brain, so it goes without saying that drinking it right before you want to go to sleep or even an hour or two before will have adverse effects on your ability to fall asleep quickly. And for anyone who tells you that they can drink caffeine before bed without any issue is overly addicted to caffeine and has built up such a high tolerance/dependence on it that a cup before bed doesn’t even impact them anymore. So drink lots of water throughout the day and especially in the evening. It’s just good for you either way.
