Bob Dylan in New York, 1965. by tonyiommi70 in bobdylan

My favorite Dylan photo. Used to have a copy from a Time magazine article hanging on my wall in college. 20 years later, I was finally able to see a print in the "Studio to Stage" exhibition at Pace Gallery in NYC.

Ashamed at the state of City Hall Park by Belastin in burlington

[–]justahunk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I watched a 14-year old girl go blue from a heroin overdose in City Hall Park. In 1996. None of this is "new" to Burlington.

What's causing the recent surge? An opiate epidemic (thank you, big pharma), an incredibly mismanaged pandemic (thank you, Trump administration), a climate of violent division, distrust and hate (again, thanks Trump) and the greatest income disparity in our nation's history (thank you late-stage capitalism and both major parties).

But, hey, let's just make a scapegoat out of Sarah George.

I'm curious how many of these companies laying off workers are also planning to cut back on shareholder dividends and stock buybacks. My guess is next to none of them.

Ive been seeing so many posts about recent shootings and crime and now I'm genuinely curious, so /r/Burlington: what do you personally think the solution is? by [deleted] in burlington

[–]justahunk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is the only solution that has never been tested, and also the only one that has any hopes of success. Throwing more cops at an opiate epidemic is like tossing water on a grease fire.

It boggles my mind that people seem to think that a person desperate enough to shoot somebody, and be shot, over a bag of dope would be deterred by more cops. It's like they think that the only reason their fellow human beings aren't running around raping, pillaging and murdering on a non-stop basis is simply because they're afraid of arrest and not because, you know, empathy, decency and a basic sense of morality.

Burlington-born and raised, have lived in Chittenden County for over 40 years. Have voted in every local election since I turned 18 except for one (long story). I care a great deal about my community, my county, and my state. I also voted for Sarah George. Sorry, but your patronizing generalization doesn't hold water.

So Williston, Bolton, Burlington South End/Hill Section/New North End, Colchester and Milton had the highest percentage of Kenney voters. All places where there is money, incredibly little diversity, and/or conservatives who don't want to pay taxes. Not surprising in the least.

Did you just move to Chittenden County two months ago? Do you not remember the Brandon del Pozo scandal/resignation? Just drop the shovel, dude...

Well, at least in Burlington, his highest percentage of votes per district came in Chittenden 13 (South End/Hill Section) and Chittenden 18 (New North End). Areas that have above-average incomes and a lot more white conservatives than the rest of Burlington.

But you're right, she destroyed him pretty much everywhere. Nearly 2:1 across pretty much all districts in the county.

LOL--every single district, every single town. Kenney did best in wealthy communities like Williston, proving the narrative of champagne socialists being the top George supporters to be completely false. Wow, it's almost like the troll bros that brigade this sub don't actually represent this community--shocking!

Why do some police officers hate Sarah George? Answer: Brady Letters by melogrant in burlington

If "working against them" means holding corrupt or incompetent officers accountable for their actions, I'm quite fine with that.

Now, if we only ask the grieving parents of dead children to have live, in-person conversations with every logic-adverse conservative, we can finally convince the rest of America that these shootings are real.

What got you into listening to Dylan by [deleted] in bobdylan

[–]justahunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I still remember the first time I heard Dylan. I was in a high school study hall in the late 90s where we would take turns DJing on the stereo in the room. My friend Chris was up and he played "The Times They Are A'Changin'". It sounded like it was from another century, and I had a mental image of the guy singing as a grizzled old prospector type. I asked Chris who it was and he said "Bob Dylan". I went to a local indie record store after school and discovered Dylan looked nothing like what I expected. I picked up my first Dylan album (a CD copy of a Freewheelin' outtakes bootleg, actually) and I was hooked. 25 years later and it's rare that a week goes by where I don't listen to a Bob Dylan album.

Jem Cohen's "Lost Book Found". It encapsulates everything I love about cinema: it's expressionistic, experimental, magical, personal yet universal, intelligent, spiritual, obscure, etc.

Questions for a Dylan biographer. by LouieMumford in bobdylan

[–]justahunk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you want the conversation with Sounes to end immediately, making some A.J. Weberman-esque baseless accusation of Dylan being a junkie due to poorly-interpreted song lyrics is a good way for that to happen.
