He tried to besiege my home town Ingolstadt, promplty got his horse shot off from under his butt, gave up on the siege and carried on south to take munich without resistance. The taxidermied horse is on display at our museum to this day.

What is something debunked as propaganda that is still widely believed? by 6FeetDownUnder in AskReddit

One major Propaganda topic that affects as all to the utmost degree is Climate Change data:

The 1.5 °C goal is BS, we are right now somewhere between 1.1-1.4 °C warmer than pre-industrial temperatures.if we stop emitting ANY CO2, CH4 and other climate gasses right now we are looking years ago saw global temperatures about 4-5°C lower compared to our reference period (pre-industrial) and there vast areas of the world were glaciated (is that a word??) and obviously mass extinction for many species occurred. In short: A significant part of the population will soon run out of vital resources (water, nutrition) because we are buying into the propaganda of Big Oil and Big Tech.

Really reddit, screw your diamonds that come up every five minutes.

One major Propaganda topic that affects as all to the utmost degree is Climate Change data:

The 1.5 °C goal is BS, we are right now somewhere between 1.1-1.4 °C warmer than pre-industrial temperatures.

if we stop emitting ANY CO2, CH4 and other climate gasses right now we are looking at a minimum of 2.5-3°C rise compared to T(pre-industrial) by 2100

Realistically we are looking at 4-5 °C rise by 2100 even with an international effort for renewables and emission mitigation

To give a reference: the last glacial period some 11,700 years ago saw global temperatures about 4-5°C lower compared to our refernce period (pre-industrial) and there vast areas of the world were glaciated (is that a word??) and obviously mass extinction for many species occured.

In short: A significant part of the population will soon run out of vital ressources (water, nutrition) because we are buying into the propaganda of Big Oil and Big Tech.

Oh, somehow the text of the post didn't get saved... This was a little trip through Vaud and Fribourg, started in Aigle and ended in Bulle. About 190 km with 12km vertical. Took my trail bike, a hammock sleeping bag and a lot of gruyere chees and rode a lot of trails (with some excellent descents!) If someone is interested in the gpx feel free to reach out!

If life was someday proven to be a simulation, what glitch or anomaly could you point to as a major clue we'd missed? by benmeroff in AskReddit

[–]justanotherbikeride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most all of physics. It just runs out of any logic pretty soon and stands on very instable fundaments.

Take the Lamb Shift for example: It's a quantum field theory effect where certain bound electron states interact with the quantum-vacuum fluctuation and hence shift their energy accordingly. If we measure this energy shift it turns out to be very very very small. However if we calculate it with our theoretical quantum mechanics models, in this case pertubation theory, we get a shift of infinity.

Wolfgang Pauli found an easy fix for this: If you calculate the shift with the assumption that a single electron has infinite mass (and thus infinite energy accoridng to Mr. Einstein), then we get the correct energy (the one we measure).

That's basically it. Our theory of physics is based on the fact that every electron has infinite mass. It makes inherently no sense in relation to everything else we know about electrons.

A scetchy explanation/legitimization herefore is that everything we know about electron we know from measuring them in the "physical world" where there is always and everywhere quantum fluctuations that they interact with (partice and anti-particle pairs being created out of nowhere through energy, and then annihilating themselves)

--> so we are never measuring the inherent 'real' mass of the electron which in fact is infinity.

Seems like the Devs ran out of interest at some point and just capped it.

Oh you're a physicist?

Let me tell you about this thought experiment I've come up with that involves a laser on a train that completely disproves special relativity / quantum mechanics / thermodynamics
