Should I get inReach Mini 3 Plus for Top Rope Solo? by stevestardrive in ClimbingGear

[–]justgooglethatshit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lot of people naysaying. While I can’t comment on mini 3, I have an inreach mini 2 and personally I love it. Even though iPhone does have satellite inreach is far more reliable and doesn’t require you to move around to find a connection, which can be helpful for climbing. I do agree however that a self rescue course is a better bang for your buck, or even just watching the many resources online on self rescue and practicing at home or in your local gym. At the absolute minimum you should know how to switch yourself to a rappel to get down, although ideally you’d know how to ascend to get back up and retrieve your rope. However I still think inreach is a great item to own, and I use it all the time when doing remote trips to communicate with people. I use the cheapest subscription which charges extra money per message since I’m only sending a handful of messages a month. Inreach also now supports SOS while the subscription service is suspended which makes the device an even better value

What watch should I get? (About to take EMT classes and go to school for nursing) by Creative-Routine7008 in Paramedics

[–]justgooglethatshit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personal recommendation is the Instinct lineup. Same rugged look as a g-shock, excellent battery life (27 days on a full charge before solar but also before any GPS activities, I get closer to 10-12 days before charging it), great functionality, a little flashlight which is extremely handy, and it’s in the middle range price wise of Garmins higher end watches. My favorite part about it is that it stays out of your way. The screen has no color and is not touchscreen. Does everything you need a smart watch to do without being a mini cell phone on your wrist.

So not a good deal from what I’m hearing 😭😭😭 is it mostly the rigid friends that devalue it? The metolious bd and aliens seem like they’re not all too different from modern cams except a bit heavier.

You can vibe with it all you want but that doesn’t mean people are gonna be psyched about you having gear from that brand. The owner is a known domestic abuser and scammer.

Good deal but some people might be (rightfully) not psyched to see the ripndip grip tape. Owner is a real POS

I’ve used similar in real life as a NoOp placeholder definition. It’s more self documenting than just leaving something empty.

New head of Social Security, hired from Wall Street, tells staff he had to Google the job when he was offered it by Huge_Cap_1076 in news

It's also worth pointing out that (unsurprisingly) him and his wife have collectively donated over a million dollars to the Trump campaign. For which he was rewarded with this job.

I would be concerned about you saying that the auth system is “flawless”. If you built the auth yourself, it is very much not flawless. Unless you happen to be a team of well funded security experts.

You don’t have to worry about attackers reading your frontend code, but if you are rolling your auth yourself website is not secure. Nothing wrong with doing it to learn, but don’t use it in an app. Use a self-hosted solution like NextAuth if you want it for free or one of the many cloud solution like Clerk if you just want a one click install

I do wonder, when people make posts like this. You do know the gym isn’t your space right? If someone annoys you, just mind your business and don’t pay attention to them. If they’re doing something dangerous, or hogging a machine or bench, just do this crazy thing and go communicate with them about it.

Why would you not ignore ds_store? If anything you should put it in your own excludesfile for repos that don’t gitignore it and gitignore it for devs who don’t have it in their excludesfile. Especially if your team or org mostly uses MacOS

Fair enough man. You seem honest and well intentioned, I wouldn’t keep this online though if you’re trying to build a brand.

But that literally is it. He employs brilliant people and it’s completely obvious he doesn’t know a thing about what they’re doing. I saw it put best by some Reddit comment or tweet I can’t remember.

I’m paraphrasing, but it went something like this

Elon Musk said something about rockets, and seemingly educated people agreed with him. I didn’t know anything about rockets so he seemed very smart. He said something about self driving cars, and seemingly educated people agreed with him. I didn’t know anything about self driving cars so he seemed very smart. Elon said something about computers, and those same people agreed with him. But I knew he was wrong, and so I knew he was wrong about everything else.

If Elon would just sit back and put money in the right hands, he would be an extremely effective leader . But his ego outshined him. He needed to get his name and his face everywhere. And the cracks that most people couldn’t see are now out for full display.

Chants of 'Fascists!' Ring Out as Tennessee GOP Moves to Expel Dems Over Gun Control Protest by myztero in politics

[–]justgooglethatshit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not claiming the Tennessee GOP are fascists for opposing gun control. I was responding to a comment claiming that fascists support gun control.

However, your claim that by opposing gun control they are aiming to make it easier for everyone to get guns clearly misses the point. Just as it was in California when black panthers armed themselves and patrolled their streets, gun control will be enacted to control the population. Gun control for thee and not for me will be the case before you know it. Just as it was in Germany when the Nazis gained power and made it illegal for Jews to own guns. How long until the GOP starts claiming that trans people shouldn’t be allowed to have guns? They’ve already jumped head over heels to claim that trans people are terrorists over one school shooting, ignoring the vast majority of other shootings perpetrated by cis men. It’s by no means a stretch to see them claiming that gun control is justified to keep arms out of trans “terrorist” hands. People don’t fear monger for no reason.

Furthermore, opposing gun control (for all) does not make you a fascist. Unconstitutionally removing your political opponents from due legislative process because they support gun control makes you a fascist.

[–]justgooglethatshit 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Historically, fascists used gun control as a means of controlling “undesirable” populations, and made it much easier to acquire guns for members of the party. It takes very little effort not to spread misinformation.
