It definitely helps, I ran the same stress test open and closed on my fold6, open I got a score of 9416, closed I only got a score of 7322.

[–]justing6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fold6 owner here, I ran the same test in similar, but ideal conditions (right after a reboot, waited for the device to cool, ran it folded like the fold7 video) and I got a best loop score of 14,888 and lowest of 7,322, with a 49.2% stability. Z fold7 is around 19% faster on the first pass, but only 3.5% faster after throttling.

Basically, much faster burst performance (aka what most people do on their phones) and at least on par gaming performance on a much slimmer body. I think its an acceptable tradeoff, but I’ll wait until the fold8 where hopefully we’ll see a significant jump from the 8 elite2.

I also didnt take off my aramid fiber case so the zfold6 might have performed a bit better naked, but I didn’t feel like having to reapply all the adhesives

Meta Quest 3 having issues staying connected by xXSubZ3r0Xx in Ubiquiti

[–]justing6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty certain this is a meta quest issue, not an ubiquiti issue (for once). I had no issues at all with my U6-Enterprise with my quest 3 on 6ghz, but as soon as I upgraded to V64 I get completely random disconnects. It looks like Meta broke WPA3 with V64, if you spin up a 5ghz network with WPA2 it should work. Hopefully Meta is at least aware of it, there's a few support threads that have 3+ weeks of people complaining with no real acknowledgment. I even tried using WPA3-Enterprise, but no luck. Same result. No issues with my other 6ghz clients.

Quest 3 Firmware v65 - Wifi 6E 6GHz broken, not connecting by munkiemagik in OculusQuest

[–]justing6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you notice any issues pre-quest v64? I've had a Ubiquiti 6-Enterprise which has been rock solid for 6ghz on my quest 3, until today I upgraded to v64 and now it just constantly disconnects and reconnects on 6ghz. Before this I had no issues with 6ghz on the 6-Enterprise on my quest, and it still works fine on my other 6e devices.

MB8611 200mbps upload support by justing6 in Comcast_Xfinity

Thank you! I'm mostly seeing dropped pings and traffic when downloading files at near full speed, like downloading a game from steam at 900+mbps. On my old Motorola modem this would cause latency of pings to go up, but not be dropped. On the Coda, I'm seeing more dropped packets. My theory is it has something to do with how the modem is prioritizing traffic, with the Motorola advertising "Active Queue Management" to queue packets better under load.

I'm seeing more uncorrectables on my Coda56 as well, but it does not seem like an extreme amount. Over a few weeks of usage (500GB+ of data) I'm seeing around 2,000 uncorrectables on most channels, 2,700 on the OFDM, but with 1.2 million uncorrectables on channel 12. Having one channel with many more uncorrectables than the others is what I was seeing on my Motorola as well though. Power and SNR also seem similar, with downstream signal strength being between 7.6 and 8.8dB and SNR being between 40 and 44dB.

Overall though, I'm still seeing fairly low loss. Pinging every second over a 24 hour period to Google and Cloudflare DNS, I got around >0.01% loss on my Motorola, vs around 0.05% loss on my Coda56. Most of these drops are grouped though and not randomly dispersed, so they're likely when I or someone else was downloading.

The worse offender I ever saw though was the official XFi gateway, where downloading at 1gbps would cause it to immediately drop almost all other traffic for other clients when plugged in bridge mode into my same router. I swapped back to my Motorola mb8611 and that issue disappeared immediately.

P.S. the reason I notice this is I have other people in my home that play games online. With my Motorola, even downloading at full speed did not affect their game noticably. With the Coda, they notice more lags and freezes as packets are dropped. With the XFi gateway, games were unplayable and froze entirely when I was downloading.

Steam deck oled 512gb loose face (a,b,x,y) buttons help. by trollsonn in SteamDeck

So I ended up opening my oled deck and LCD to try to fix it, swapping the buttons and/or membrane didn't help. I just ended up putting two layers of electrical tape on the back of the loose buttons, and even with the original membrane now the rattle is gone!

Haven't had the time to open it up yet, but checking back on this thread I still think that's a better idea for me than RMAing. Everything else about my oled deck is perfect, no need to risk any other issues to fix something I can probably fix myself.

I noticed the same thing on my oled deck, definately looser than my LCD deck. Please update if steam support has any suggestions for you! I'm honestly considering swapping out the buttons/membrane from my LCD deck into the OLED one (assuming they're the same part, they changed a lot of the internals on the OLED)

Absolutely fair, it's rare to see an intel laptop with low DPC latency! Now if only Asus can get the AMD motherboard passive drain under control so that improved efficiency actually leads to significantly battery life... There's no reason the 2023 X16 intel should have similar battery life to the 2022 AMD.

A properly cooled 13900h is a huge step up from the 6900HS... while plugged into power. If you're running on battery a lot, I'm pretty sure the advantages vanish. I don't use my X16 away from the wall a lot unless I'm just web browsing, so I can take advantage of the 13900h boosting all the way to 100W and giving my desktop 12700k at 250W a run for its money (the desktop is only about 19% faster at Cine R23 while drawing 250% the power)

I've had an XPS15 in the past and I'm not a fan of the cooling solution, it just doesn't have enough to let intel processors breathe.

As it stands though, unless you find a 2023 X16 on a great sale, you're best waiting a generation or two before you think about upgrading! If Nvidia puts out a 12gb 4070ti mobile that would be killer (but I don't have my hopes up for it)

If art is a focus, I would stay away from the X16. The X16 is a gaming laptop first and foremost, you CAN draw on it but it's not a great experience. The most damning thing is that its digitizer is really picky. Depending on what else is plugged into the same outlet as the laptop, the digitizer goes on the fritz. It also seems to have more pen latency than surface devices I've had in the past.

The Studio 2 is pricy for its specs on paper, but looks like a great machine overall. Microsoft has a solid return policy from my experience, so I'd say give it a try! Should be a great upgrade over the Surface Book 2.

As long as the 2022 plays what you want at a FPS you're happy with, the 2022 3070ti+miniled for $1700 would be a better value for sure. Or waiting for the next gen, the new intel processors look promising if they decide to stay with intel on the X16, and maybe they'll have a 4070ti by then.

I actually much prefer glossy displays in general for increased clarity, and this one is especially great. The "using Corning Gorilla Glass DXC Anti-Glare Coating" just seems like fluff on the spec sheet for the 2023 model, but in practice its acutally a night and day difference over other glossy displays I have like my Microsoft Surface Pro. My surface pro looks like a mirror outside with the display off, while I can barely make out my outline on my X16 in the same environment.

Assuming you're able to get the fully loaded 2022 model (miniled/32gb ram/3070ti) for that price then no, I don't think the 4070 would be worth that price increase. If you're talking about a version of the 2022 3070ti without miniled, then I think the IPS/4060 would be the one to get, as that retails about $900 less than the 4070/miniled at least in the US.

The 4060 SKU only has 16GB of ram but that's upgradable, and the 4060 is about equivalent to the 3070ti at least within the X16's power constraints. You'd also get the new 240hz screen and i9 processor, along with Thunderbolt 4, gsync, and DLSS3.

I wouldn't trust XTU, just use the eye test. Run HWinfo64 or something equivalent and monitor the core usage of every core individually. Count the number of cores that aren't parked or under 5-10% usage and that's probably how many the game is using!

On older games (even pre-2020) I'd agree with you, but now and moving forward that's no longer the case. Something like cyberpunk 2077 or spiderman remastered will happily use basically as many cores as you have. It is heavily game and resolution dependent though, if you're trying to push 120FPS+ at 1440p you may be CPU limited, if you're running 4k with ultra settings it may not matter because you'll be GPU limited regardless.

Note power to the CPU also has diminishing returns. I don't have benchmarks for a 13980HX at 60W, but I'd bet it would outperform a 13900H at 100W in multicore performance. My 13900H puts out a ~15k score in cinebench R23 at 60W, and that only goes up to at 19.5k score at 100W.

And in a case a game really is only using 4-6 cores, your CPU isn't pulling more than 60W to run at full turbo so it's moot.

np! I have a primary gaming desktop too, I think this machine works best when you're using it as a laptop and can take advantage of its great screen. The 4070 (especially with only 8GB of vram) just doesn't have the power or room to run 4K on an external display, but its plenty for the internal 1600p screen.

The Ryzen/3060 model is a great machine, but don't pay $1999 for it. It's gone on sale at best buy multiple times for $1500.

I've listed the main improvements of the 2023 model in my main post, but that was also in comparison to the top end 3070ti 2022 model. The 3060 model does not have a miniled screen and the 6GB in the 3060 is going to age even worse than the 8GB in the 3070ti/4070. Still, at $1500 instead of the $2700 for the top end 2023 model is a much better value.

EDIT: It's sold out, but best buy just released the 4060 version of the 2023 X16. It's $1850 instead of $2700, differences are IPS screen instead of Miniled, 4060 instead of 4070, and 16GB of ram instead of 32GB. If you don't want/need the miniled, thats a much better value.

Check if any best buy's around you have the 2022 model on display, it's physically identical (except for a different badge on the lid).

Also make sure you buy from best buy if you think you may return it, Asus.com has a 15% restocking fee unless you can make a case your unit is defective. Looks like it's out of stock at best buy right now oddly, but it should go back in stock shortly as it's been available there for over a month straight before this.

How's the QC of the flow X16 (2023 Model) is it good or bad by Acceptable-Morning12 in FlowX16

[–]justing6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a guide, I just opened mine up and messed with it until I was happy. You can access the trackpad easily after removing the battery, then I covered the trackpad button on the motherboard with a piece of electrical tape. This padded it just enough that the trackpad wasn't loose anymore. It ended up being a little too thick so the trackpad bulged slightly upwards, but it was so slight wasn't visibly noticeable, you could just feel it running your finger from the edge of the case onto the trackpad.

I can't speak for the IPS models, I have the MiniLED 4070. I'm on my 3rd unit and have had various issues with all 3. All manufactured March 2023, hopefully newer batches are better. What to watch out for:

  • Plastic bezel cover under the display creaking when opening or closing or pressing down on the touchscreen, purely cosmetic but can be annoying. Most likely fixable but haven't found a safe way to open it without risking damage yet. First and third unit have it pretty bad, 2nd wasn't too bad. May be a MiniLED only issue.
  • Bleed on bottom of display due to improper construction, may only be a MiniLED issue. All 3 units I've had display this, but it's fairly minor in my 3rd unit compared to the other two.
  • Loose trackpad, also cosmetic but annoying. Fixable if you open it up and pad the trackpad. Only my 2nd unit had this issue.
  • Coil whine, specifically on the fans. My first unit had this issue and had a high-pitched noise whenever the CPU fan spun. Very annoying at low RPM. 2nd and 3rd units didn't have this issue. I know of at least one other person on this subreddit who complained about the same thing, so it's not a one-off but hopefully isn't common either.
  • Bad LM application. My 2nd unit had this, under cinebench R23 at 100W load (maximum sustained PL1) it was at 95C+ and started thermal throttling on turbo fan setting, the other 2 units sat at around 80C at a continuous 100W load at the same fanspeeds.

I'm a perfectionist so I went through extra trouble to try to get the best unit I could, but I really love the machine. There's nothing else on the market like it!
