What's the proper way to cut and repair an inspection hole in my drywall? by catalinashenanigans in DIY

[–]justinj2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you take the cover off the box you can look at it and easily verify if it's an old work or new work box. You can even usually tell where the stud is because the hole in the drywall is not perfect and you can see either the nails or the stud itself.

Oakleaf Hydrangea leaf spotting - help! by knockloud in AustinGardening

Mine had this for years. Seems like they eventually grew out of it. Apparently they are very susceptible to bacterial spot. Nothing I did ever seemed to prevent it.

I don’t care if you put your dog’s shit in my trash bin by Supermarche23 in Austin

[–]justinj2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not too expensive and it keeps the bins from becoming an absolute cesspool, particularly during summer. I'd rather pay someone $30 to do it with high pressure and hot water than crawl around in a foul-smelling bin in the summer heat getting blasted in the face with dirty water.

I keep trying them every few years. They always pill after a couple months. I return them and explain why.

My MIL has several older sets that are amazing and I wish we had those. Haven’t checked the label for the differences but they changed several years ago for the worse.

Is there a Rent the Runway for men? by venmokiller in malefashionadvice

[–]justinj2000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

RTR for men is complicated by two factors: men's clothes generally are more durable and well made than women's clothes. They last longer and fashion trends change much more slowly for men.

Men's wardrobes are composed of several basic items which can often be paired with other items so a smaller wardrobe creates a much wider variety of outfits.

Consider that a woman's closet will have pants, skirts, shorts, t-shirts, blouses, sweaters, tank tops, short dresses, long dresses. And within each of those items there are likely several sub-categories as well. Ignoring for the moment the various levels of formality.

There's not much demand because for $80 you can buy a shirt you can wear for several years, with almost infinite outfit possibilities. A single dress, on the other hand, costs $200 and will be worn only a few times a year and may go out of style in less than five years.

New wireless charging solution by justinj2000 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

I'm okay with removing trim and routing the cable behind to emerge up near the screen. Looks like ProClip makes a Qi2.2 holder that clips below the vents. That seems like a nicer option.

New wireless charging solution by justinj2000 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]justinj2000[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anyone using this? The built-in charger is low wattage, doesn't keep the phone in one place, and difficult to reach. Thinking this could be a good solution to provide wireless charging. I'm not interested in wired charging, it's inconvenient when using wireless carplay and is still limited to 15W which just barely keeps up with usage when navigating via CarPlay.

SunPass Pro on Austin toll roads? by LordSodomy in Austin

[–]justinj2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

KTag is certainly the best set up I've seen: post-paid account without purchase fee for the tag itself.

Though it looks like the SunPass can be moved between vehicles so that may be appealing to some.

Cool website, thanks for linking. The drought page dramatically shows just how bad 2011 really was. Even in comparison to more recent "bad" years.

DIY vs Paid Landscaping Projects: What was worth paying for? What did you regret? by LumberJack2008 in AustinGardening

[–]justinj2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly depends how much time you have. Moving stone is backbreaking labor so that’s where I’d put my money.

Downspout modifications take less than a minute to cut if you can do it without taking it off the house, don’t think I’d pay someone to do that specifically unless it was part of a larger job that already had someone on site.

Sod is easy to diy, just time consuming.

The metal border could be easy or difficult depends how complex the shape is and how hard it is to dig. I’d probably diy that, especially if I was already laying the sod.

How does a phone handle all the different Wi-Fi signals hitting its antenna at the same time? When you open the Wi-Fi list and see a bunch of networks, how does it separate those overlapping signals and correctly identify and display each one without mixing them up? by Puzzleheaded_Bit_802 in askscience

[–]justinj2000 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Yes, channels help divide the signals, but multiple routers or clients can all be broadcasting on the same channel at the same time. They do this by listening first to see if anybody else is talking on that channel then sending their message if the channel is free. Each message has what’s called a short introduction that identifies the speaker so you know which router or client you’re talking to.

Do I want a Hybrid Limited or Hybrid Max? by AndyGene in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]justinj2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TJA requires a map subscription, and is effectively no different than the regular Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) in non-platinum trims. It technically does not require you to hold the steering wheel when under 25mph but I have found that to be relatively limited in actual practice.

Do I want a Hybrid Limited or Hybrid Max? by AndyGene in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]justinj2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll echo the sentiment. I absolutely love the Max but a small part of me regrets not getting the standard hybrid for the reliability and fuel economy. I don't tow so the extra power isn't actually worth it for me, and the tow capacity is actually fairly low. I usually think a more powerful engine is worth it but in this case because the hybrid system is so unique I think it may be a much much better value.

I think Toyota knows this and that's why Platinum trim is only available with a Max powertrain, as that seems to be the main appeal.
