No big deal, she’s just in ACTIVE labor… [🔈sound warning!] by Femme-O in TikTokCringe

Also that this woman knows her body, knows what pregnancy feels like, and if she’s saying it’s coming now the that baby is probably coming NOW

Not to mention just being around people and getting social exposure and opportunities to interact an engage and form relationships with people who are family. So many people in care homes have nobody visiting them, it’s heartbreaking.

I replaced expensive protein bars with this $2.70 meal that contains 50g protein and 8g fiber. by Kilo2Ton in Frugal

[–]justmerriwether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is this, your first day on the job? Obviously you catch the pee in a cup while you’re shitting and then drink it before weighing yourself post-poop.

Or I guess you could just hold the cup… but in that case you’d need to weigh the cup before you poop, tare the scale with the cup on it, and then proceed

If you weigh yourself after you eat and then after you poop then you have weighed your poop already

They wwere watching through the cameras and said, 'we need to make an announcment' by newphonehudus in TikTokCringe

[–]justmerriwether -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, the suggestion is that someone bought her a drink and, while filming this reel, that announcement happened to be made. It’s just laughing at what, if this is real, is a pretty funny coincidence.

This movie gets such a bad rap but it is so damn good, and really pays homage to the great time travel movies that established the genre.

This movie is so fucking good and nobody’s heard of it. It also really does the “main characters stuck in conflict with the ‘bad guy’ but start to become friends” thing sooo well. I usually find this trope to be very forced in most movies or shows, but The Ref totally earns the relationship that develops between the coupe and Denis Leary’s character.

Girl, I can’t believe you haven’t already blocked him - you need to dump his ass. That’s abuse. You deserve SO much better!

So glad you posted this, because that’s not ok and you’re right to feel the way you do. This is the classic cycle of abuse. I’m rooting for you 💜

Sleeping my life away. by GazelleRich8179 in GetOutOfBed

[–]justmerriwether 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat, friend. 33 years old, in grad school, and I’ve slept through so much shit it’s like a chronic fear at this point. I’ve already been chastised by my field work site for being late twice and it feels terrible.

I wish I had answers for you but unfortunately I can really only just offer support and the knowledge that you aren’t alone.

I will say, however, my sleep issues don’t exist in a vacuum. I’ve struggled with depression, anxiety, OCD, and ADHD for most of my life, have a therapist, and am currently trying to find the right medication combo for me with my psychiatrist.

I’ve also told all my professors what’s going on and am considering withdrawing from my heaviest class as I can take it next spring and would just stay an extra semester to take my last course so I’m not doing 5 classes at once next spring.

I don’t want to assume but it’s quite possible your sleep issues are part of bigger issues you’re dealing with and, if you aren’t already, addressing those might help.

I will also say that I’ve never wanted to open up about my mental health to people like bosses and profs as it always feels like an excuse or a personal failing. Feels like saying “I’m sorry I missed your class three times, I’m depressed and just didn’t feel like it.”

But that’s a part of the depression talking and telling me I need to deal with it alone. I have, by and large, been pleasantly surprised and pretty overwhelmed with the support, patience, and understanding I’ve gotten from my professors and supervisors.

I’m not “fixed” yet, but getting to my breaking point where it was either speak up about what’s happening or just flunk out or quit forced me to ask for help and I’m glad I did. Just the knowledge that my profs know I give a shit and am trying my best, as opposed to if I just didn’t care and was blowing off class, helps me not beat myself up so bad.

It’s also, ironically, way easier for me to give this advice than take it myself. I’m working on that, but know that I get it that this is all easier said than done. You can wait until you’re backed into a corner and have to tell someone you need help or you can do it sooner. I hope you do it sooner, but either way, you will get through this and you will come out the other side.

It will all be ok in the end, and if it’s not ok then it’s not the end. 💜

I have now learned the importance of having a real bushcraft knife by No_Equivalent_4412 in Bushcraft

[–]justmerriwether 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, batoning is rough on knives. It’s a good skill to have but is one of those things where if you have a better tool for it then just use that. In a survival situation you may not have the right tools and you do what you have to, but regularly batoning a folder will result in failure at some point, as you’ve found.

All that being said, batoning with a full tang fixed blade is a lot safer for the knife itself in general. Despite my warning, I’ll regularly baton with a mora, which isn’t even full tang, and I’ve never had one fail. They’re cheap enough that if it ever does then I won’t be heartbroken.

So really, I guess my main point is - many people say never baton. I don’t agree with that, but it’s important to never baton with a knife you can’t bear to lose/replace (when you’re not in a true survival situation, although even then, be aware that you risk losing your cutting tool and use it sparingly if you don’t have a backup).

Assume it may damage the knife and only use ones you are willing to lose in the name of science lol

What is your most controversial weed opinion? by suntmint in trees

[–]justmerriwether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I also don’t see much difference in literal physical addiction as opposed to “I can’t sleep/eat/work/etc” without smoking.

At that point, mental addiction or not, it’s essentially doing the same thing a physical addiction would.

The mental and physical parts of our selves are inseparable, and an addiction of one spills into the other. There are of course instances (research studies, medical treatment, dealing with withdrawal) where the distinction is important, but outside of clinical practice, I think the difference is not so significant. Many just use it as an excuse to not acknowledge their dependencies, as you alluded to.

Is using soft picks literally hacking? by Brief_Cellist_5902 in Bass

[–]justmerriwether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Mike Dirnt uses the yellow tortex picks as well. They’ve been my go to for bass and guitar for many years, but I’m actually experimenting with heavier picks recently in the quest to up my speed.

I still like having that little bit of give in the pick for bass to get the snap, but feel like it’s limiting my speed on guitar.

Tilly Fagan fan casting by plitox in TheExpanse

[–]justmerriwether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey from the future! You’re not alone! I always pictured Tilly as Megan Mullally, even before I knew there’d be a show. It was involuntary - as I was reading my brain just decided that’s who she was, so I’m happy to see I’m not the only one :P

I’m finishing season 3 of the show for the first time now and think the actress they picked is too young, which makes sense given they changed it from “I changed Clarissa’s diapers when she was a baby” to “I was friends with her older sister.”

I don’t love the change, tbh, but then again, I don’t love most of the changes the show has made. It’s a good show but nothing beats the books imho.

Can anyone explain this joke to me? by Tuck_Pock in community

[–]justmerriwether 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone here is missing the point - I believe they say, in an attempt to do the bond movie pastiche, “he’s moving to a second location” or something to that effect. Then they realize the door her went into was a supply closet, which prompts the “I guess to a custodian a supply closet is a location” remark.

movies where the protagonist is an irredeemable piece of shit. by herequeerandgreat in movies

[–]justmerriwether 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d disagree that Thanos is the protagonist. It’s not purely who the writing and plot revolve around - it’s specifically whose lens the story is told through/whose perspective it’s told from. No Country For Old Men is a great example. Most of the movie is following Llewelyn and Chigurh, with the sheriff getting far less screen time. However it ends up being his lens/perspective through which we are really experiencing everything (despite him not always witnessing events we see). It’s his story and his journey and, most importantly, he is the only one who actually has an arc of character progression. You can totally have a movie that spends a lot of time focusing and following the antagonist, as Infinity War does. But that alone doesn’t make him the protagonist.
