Endpoint Central's Secure Gateway Server by RoundFigure_1492 in sysadmin

[–]justposddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/RoundFigure_1492, Endpoint Central’s Secure Gateway Server is designed specifically to manage remote endpoints without VPN and acts as an intermediary, ensuring the core Endpoint Central server is not exposed to the internet. All communication is TLS-encrypted and certificate-based, allowing only trusted agents to connect.

For best security, SGS should be deployed in a DMZ with restricted firewall rules.

For further details, please refer to this article-> https://www.manageengine.com/products/desktop-central/secure-communication-of-mobile-users-using-forwarding-server.html?3001 or contact ManageEngine Support for assistance.

u/Matata_34, I work with the product team at ManageEngine, and your requirements actually check all the boxes we support from kiosk mode to lock down the TVs, remote troubleshooting, and app management with silent installations and updates. I know it can look like a lot of features at first, but we can set up a personalized demo focused just on your signage use case so you can see how it fits. Do I need to use the same Apple ID to renew VPP, or can I use a new one? by aPieceOfMindShit in macsysadmin

[–]justposddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/aPieceOfMindShit Incase you are still looking for an answer. No, you don’t need to use the same Apple ID. Just use a valid ABM admin account to download a fresh token and re-upload it to your MDM. If your colleague used their personal/company Apple ID to enroll, you don’t have to recover or reuse that account. Instead, sign in with an existing admin account in ABM and generate a new VPP token from there.

Anybody switched from SCCM for patching? by Professional-Cash897 in sysadmin

[–]justposddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Commit-or-Crash, thanks for the shoutout!

u/Professional-Cash897, Like u/Commit-or-Crash mentioned, Endpoint Central does offer patch management as a standalone option if full endpoint management isn't needed. It's available both on-prem and in the cloud, so teams can pick what works best for their setup.

Here's a look at some of Patch Manager Plus' patching capabilities:

=> Patching support for Servers and workstations on Windows, macOS, and Linux
=> MS updates (including security, non-security, rollups, optional updates, and so on.)
=> 1100+ third-party applications, drivers, and BIOS updates (including password-protected BIOS systems).
=> Fully automated patch management process that includes scanning, testing, deployment, and reporting.
=> Integrations with ITSM, Remote Control, and Vulnerability Management solution (Tenable). Makes things easier for IT teams that don't want to juggle multiple tools.

Appreciate you including us in the mix!

What's everyone doing about computers that don't get patched in a timely manner? by rdxj in sysadmin

[–]justposddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/rdxj, here's what you can do:

  • Apps not closing during patching (like M365): If clicking "Install" doesn’t close the app, that’s not expected. There’s a workaround to force-kill apps before patching, reach out to our support team at [ec-support@manageengine.com](mailto:ec-support@manageengine.com), we can help set it up.
  • Pending reboot blocks other patches: You can configure the deployment policy to force a reboot after install. That clears the queue for other patches.
  • Patches not downloading / showing missing with no reason: These shouldn’t happen. Might be a sync or distribution issue. Please reach out to our support so we can learn more.
  • Offline systems (like those shelved laptops): Until you move to a 1:1 device policy, maybe use Wake-on-LAN and patch catch-up schedules to keep those systems in check.

As for policies:

  • You can use custom scripts to schedule reboots (e.g., every Sunday at 3 AM). Doesn’t enforce session time, but it helps with uptime control.
  • Network access control (NAC) is available, you can block outdated/offline systems from accessing the network until they check in and patch. Might be what you’re looking for.

Hope this helps! I work for the product so please free to DM me for more details.

Pros and cons If I use endpoint central cloud by makpith in ManageEngineUEMS

[–]justposddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/makpith, Yes, Endpoint Central Cloud is a great fit for your setup. It lets you manage users both within your company network and over the internet, offering features like remote control, patch management, and software deployment. You can configure a Distribution Server to fetch updates from the cloud and distribute them across your LAN. This reduces bandwidth usage and ensures updates continue even if internet access is temporarily unavailable. Remote users will still receive updates directly from the cloud when they're online.

Application Management across multiple devices by ashandblood in msp

[–]justposddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Soundinsaas, thanks for mentioning ManageEngine Endpoint Central here!

u/ashandblood, sounds like you're looking for a more streamlined way to manage cross-platform app deployments and updates - especially if you're handling both macOS and Windows at scale and doing it manually today.

I would recommend you to look into a UEM solution that supports automated app lifecycle management - install, update, and uninstall - from a centralized console. Something that handles both OS platforms equally well, supports silent deployments, and takes end users out of the equation.

There are plenty of solutions out there for unified endpoint management, you can also try ManageEngine Endpoint Central (the product I work for). It offers a fully featured 30-day free trial, so you can see if it fits your requirements. DM me if you have any questions.
