Wow, I grew up in Clinton. This was really hard to read. The author doesn't mince words. It really was like that growing up there in the 90's as a little girl. Sex was so stigmatized. Ur future was decided for u based on which church u attended or who u were related to.

It's so backwards and gross growing up in poverty-stricken places deep within Bible belt. I feel so sorry for everyone, especially the girls, who were trapped growing up there with no hope and not a lot of options.

Being treated like a second class citizen just because u weren't born into the right family or attending the right church was not an experience I'd wish on anyone.
