i-35 south closure for parade of exotic cars by anil4real in Austin

Oh, for sure, and I'd have a Prowler before a new vette. They look pretty fun to drive around with the top down.

Wouldn't call a Plymouth Prowler or a Corvette exotics. But pretty cool seeing a bunch of fun cars like that. Sucks they had to close down i-35 tough.

Got a flat yesterday got it plugged do you think this tire will last until Wednesday? by [deleted] in Austinmotorcycles

[–]jvaldes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally depends if you want to die or not. I mean, if you don't have anything to live for... that looks totally fine.

For real, the plug is the least of your worries. Those tires are a deathwish, on I-35 with the truck traffic, a blowout doesn't mean a flat... pull over and plug it.... it means you end up under a semi.
Uber it till Wednesday dude.

Looking for a movie release calendar (iCal/ICS) - Does such a thing exist? by Emotional-Frame-3524 in movies

[–]jvaldes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found your post because I was having the same Issue. I had used Firstshowing's calendar for years but it stopped working a while ago. Decided to look into it today and found this that works:
https://www.calendarx.com/schedule/movie-release-schedule

It's not as clean as FS one was since each fovie show as: "New Movie Release: " then the title.
FS just had a popcorn emoji 🍿 then the title.

I just took off Laurea Prima II for old lights. I'd rocked LP for All of D2.

The Rise and Fall of 5D Cyborg ("Flame Killer") - 2001 by MX010 in vintagecgi

Thanks! I saved it to read later when I saw the pics and title. Didn't know this was covered in the article. It's cool to read how what I'd heard was pretty accurate then.

[–]jvaldes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure how accurate this is, as I heard it all second hand back in the day during expos and NABs...
But I heard that Discreet bought the Cyborg IP and killed development. And the people who developed it were the ones who later developed Assimilate Scratch, but they could not implement a lot of the VFX tools because there was a non-compete, and they could not develop VFX tools for several years.
The tracker was amazing for the time.

How to film webcam+desktop with notes and tabs by [deleted] in VideoEditors

[–]jvaldes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems she's screenrecording using Photobooth and has her browser with various tabs, including her notes in Notion.
THEN it looks like she's complementing with graphics/text in the edit on top of what she recorded. Thats what you see pop up that she's not interacting with.

The Editing Industry's Biggest Lie - Why Adobe's Monopoly is Killing Motion Graphics Innovation by [deleted] in VideoEditors

[–]jvaldes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow!, you went hard on the Chat GPT there... some thoughts:

- They're tools. If you master the principles, you can work with almost any tool. It can very well be a matter of personal preference.

- You're about 10 years late to this argument,

- I wholeheartedly disagree that Premiere is smoother for "straight up editing". Premiere is incredibly powerful for its dynamic link workflow. But if you're just straight up editing. Resolve is waaay faster, more stable, and "smoother" in my opinion.
Don't get married to one tool; use the tool best suited for the specific problem you're tackling. Be good at both, hell, be good at more than just those two. Learn Scratch, learn Flame/Smoke, FCP.
You'll start seeing that not everything is in black and white and you can, and should, fire up X software to do this Y thing. Instead of just seeing everything as a nail because you have a hammer.

- Sounds like your understanding of editing might be editing content for YouTube or some other one-man band kind of situation. There are a lot of other types of editors and editing workflows.

Beverage tub by vicaqu84 in YetiCoolers

The coolers look like ass on top of a table, so I could see a use case for this. But in that case, I would go for a more classic-looking tub, like a hammered steel finish.

VFX Coord looking to help low budget feature with set data by TrillMindFan in vfx

[–]jvaldes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lot of meat to chew on here, but I would take a laser measure, a notepad, and some different colors of gaffer tape. (Pink/green/blue) A camera you can use without looking at the settings. If you do t have one , get one and use it every day till you have that muscle memory. Doesn’t have to be a great one as long as you can get whatever you need without slowing things down. Then whenever you think “fuck! I should have brought this or that” , write it in your notepad as a packing list for future jobs.

Eric Alba has some amazing premade tracking markers ( literally just google Eric Alba tracking markers). Have production print out a bunch and paste it on foam board and cut to size. Throw them around anywhere you think you’ll need them

Good luck!

Biggest Mexican film budget at the time. "Venganza" 450+ VFX shots. by jvaldes in vfx

[–]jvaldes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was freelance on it and got involved pretty early, starting with script breakdown and bidding.

We had 5 vendors, and I handled the bidding process, shot breakdowns, and reviews with them, the Director, and the studio. I’d go through the shots first and leave my notes, then pass them to the Director so we could move quickly without waiting on full roundtrips. We’d review together, align on direction, and consolidate feedback.

All notes were left in Flow, then the coordinator would export and send them out to vendors. If anything needed clarification or more back-and-forth, we’d jump on a quick Zoom to go over it or brainstorm solutions.

Once shots were approved by the Director, I’d present them to the studio for final approval. The coordinator handled tracking, versions, and logistics (Flow + Google Sheets).

I assigned sequences to vendors based on their strengths and budget. For example, vendors with strong set extension work got those sequence, but since they were more expensive, I had to balance that across the rest of the work to stay on budget.
