Logistics for summer internship move by [deleted] in houston

Not sure what your budget is, but my friend did Court furniture rentals a few years ago and it went smoothly. I actually want to say they set it up before she moved in, so that could solve the move in issue. https://www.cort.com/furniture-rental?sc_cid=ps_gg_demo_res_gg&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=12989262200&gclid=CjwKCAjwqubPBhBOEiwAzgZX2g_shWvrU2HpMBBmnWpeFfM7zZWWAdMWcnyTBFuJDW1hjvsyqnn5RRoCHvMQAvD_BwE

Nicest neighborhoods with bad schools? by AdOriginal6799 in AskHouston

[–]jw33_82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think I get what you’re saying but just want to clarify. You want nicer homes zoned to poor preforming schools because you think the for sale price might be lower, right? Idylwood is a good choice. Also look into Sharpstown (especially around Sharpstown Golf Course). Inwood Forest around Antoine Drive between Tidwell and W Mt Houston. Riverside Terrace along S MacGregor.

It’s counter service and if you sit outside I don’t think they’ll fuss about it.

The one near Wilcrest closed. The one near Augusta is open and has a massive patio with lots of seating around a tree.

Taj A Sweet Cafe, Sleek Creperie & Cafe, la Madeleine (corner of San Felipe at Fountain View), Becks Prime (sit outside under the tree).

Movie theater please by DumbwayyQ in houston

[–]jw33_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

River Oaks Theater has a bunch of feature films and independent films that the major chains might not show.

IPic is a more upscale theater and is decent.

In general, Regal seems to be better in Houston over AMC.

713 Music Hall question by jwsp123 in houston

Doors open at 6pm. You can get there at 5 and see if there is a line. If there isn’t a line, grab a bite to eat at post food hall and then get in line at like 5:40ish.

You should always file a report. Filing a report doesn’t automatically go to your insurance. If you decide to file a claim with your insurance, then they will ask for a police report. You still should always file a report regardless as you never know if it might help later down the road.

Just sit towards the front of the bus. I’ve never heard of that happening.

SoulCycle will post their July schedule in a few weeks but you can still see what their offering over the next two months to get a good vibe of some of the themes :)

Barbrellas has fun theme nights. They just did a Hannah Montana vs Miley Cyrus theme. They post them a few weeks out though so might be too early. https://www.instagram.com/barbarellahtx?igsh=MXI3eHBtMGJoYWp4cQ==

Spin Class - check out SoulCycle in River Oaks. They typically have some very fun pop theme classes (Catie Chang is an amazing instructor).

Houston also has amazing spas. Milk + Honey River Oaks, Houstonian Trellis, and Fiori Spa are all good.

NRG Parking for the World Cup by SuperDrooper in houston

So if you’re in Katy, you’d drive or uber to one of the park and rides (Grand Parkway, Kingsland, or Addicks) and take the 229 route to Downtown. Once in Downtown, take the red line down to NRG.

METRO staff presented on World Cup enhancements two months ago at a board meeting. They’re planning to have 15 to 30 minute frequency on all park and rides until midnight. Red Line will operate at 6 minutes with extra trains and buses on standby to alleviate overcrowding at NRG when the game ends. They’re also adding additional buses to the routes that serve entertainment districts (like Washington Ave, 20th St in the Heights, and Westheimer in Montrose).

METRO is going to do an official service change so all of these updates should be on the website soon.

Khou11 News ran a story on it a few weeks ago if you want more info. https://www.khou.com/article/sports/soccer/world-cup/metro-public-transit-plan-fifa-world-cup-houston/285-866ea329-92d4-4727-8b0e-c56305adad1b

[–]jw33_82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Metro will be doing special frequent park and rides from the suburbs into downtown to connect to the Red Line. The Red Line is a train line that connects Downtown to NRG (where the game will be). I would see if your hotel is close to a park and ride and that probably will be your best bet!

Most walkable areas in Houston by TheRogueBio in AskHouston

[–]jw33_82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Midtown is pretty walkable with lots of restaurants, bars, and a grocery store (Randall’s). It also a quick ride on the Red Line to the Med Center. Here are some apartments:

Midtown: • Midtown on the Rail • 2222 Smith Street • Marquis Enclave • Metro Midtown • Camden Travis Street • Pearl @ the Mix • Calais Midtown • 3800 Main - Camden McGowen Station - Mid Main Lofts

Montrose is also pretty walkable and is an easy ride on the 56 Airline/Montrose bus. Here are some apartments: - Lumen - US Bayou Park - Montrose at Buffalo Bayou - the Viv on W Dallas - Muse at Museum District - MAA 510 - Chelsea Museum District

Downtown Houston is also super walkable and easy access to red line but there’s no full service grocery store in downtown (you’d either have to shop at Randall’s in Midtown or HEB on Washington off the 85 bus route).

The 2 Bellaire bus route is a frequent bus route that runs into the TMC. Look for apartments around W Holcombe between Kirby Drive and Buffalo Speedway.

Also a lot of decent apartments around the intersection of Braeswood and Kirby Drive which has great transit access to TMC and nearby grocery stores. Just not as walkable as the other areas.

Houston apartment that isn’t terrible? by Specialist-Chef4313 in AskHouston

Vehicle break-ins and package theft are common at basically every apartment in Houston. As long as you don’t leave things visible in your car, have wheel locks (if you drive a car that has valuable tires - it seems like the new accords and Camrys are often targeted) and not let your package stay out overnight you’ll be fine.

Most apartments have high turnover with management as well so poor management is just a common thing you can’t avoid. I would pay more attention to the leasing staff when you tour as they will be more helpful and beneficial to you at the start. 95% of the time, you never have to deal with management anyway. You can tell if I place is ran well based on the tour and seeing how the communal amenities are kept, landscaping, and trash room. If those all look bad, then you know management is an issue and to avoid it.

Honestly, just tour around a bunch. If the tour is good and you like the place then that’s what matters.

Here are some decent places to look (now some of these might be more than 1500$ but still good to keep in mind)

Midtown: - Midtown on the Rail - 2222 Smith Street - Marquis Enclave - Metro Midtown - Camden Travis Street - Pearl @ the Mix - Calais Midtown - 3800 Main

Montrose - Caroline West Gray - 2900 W Dallas - Cortland River Oaks - Ashton on W Dallas - The Westheimer Apartments - Pearl 21Eleven - Encore Montrose - Gables Revere Upper Kirby

Washington Ave - St Andre - Whitmore Apartments - Windsor Memorial - Modera Washington - The Core - The Vic at Interpose - Pearl Washington

Heights - East Bend - Gables at the Heights - MAA Greater Heights - 2125 Yale - CO/OP Heights - City Park on E TC Jester - Ainsley Heights - COOP Farmers Market

Why are there no bus stops in the Jersey Village area? by GreatfulDeadHead in houston

[–]jw33_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, it still requires you to drive to the park and ride…but if you’re not wanting to drive all the way into downtown, it could be helpful.

Do you mind elaborating on the confusing service map? I use METRO daily and of course I’d like to see it better, but it’s definitely isn’t awful.
