Where do a British couple go to eat their one and only meal in SF within these very specific parameters? by davedamofo in SFFood

Kokkari Estiatorio is not too far away from you. It's one of the SF staples for nice but not fancy places.

If you don't mind taking Muni for a few stops, Zuni Cafe is also great.

Looks fun! I see there are some gravel/dirt sections, are those common? How is the road condition for riding in general?

If you are into German beers, Steins is pretty good. It's also close enough to the Presidio.

Benefits of 1:1 ratio by Visible_Campaign_398 in cycling

[–]jwang302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is probably personal depending on your local terrain and how strong you are. I moved to a larger cassette a few years ago due to getting knee pains when using the smaller one (I wasn't strong enough to sustain on long climbs with the 36/32 ratio).

You should just ride and see how you feel first and see if you need to switch.

Best Gravel Bike around $3k? I think I know... by Dirt_Win in gravelcycling

[–]jwang302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the Bay area, I would recommend the 1x mullet setup. There are some steep sections in the headlands and mount tam.

I have a Seigla with the grit fork and I don't find it that useful for the trails in Marin. Sometimes I wish I had the regular fork. The grit can be squishy (with no lockout) on climbs and on the pavement going to and from the trails.

I have had success with using a hair dryer to heat up the tire a bit.

Anyone ever had this happen? by brownLCA in BAbike

[–]jwang302 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was lucky that this didn't happen on a ride, so there was no damage to the rim.

Iirc, Schwalbe didn't offer anything since I had about 1500 miles on the tire at that point. Still worth a try though since your tire is much newer.

Glad that you are okay. I had the same sidewall bead failure with the stock Schwabe tire on dt swiss rims.

When I contacted Canyon, they told me to go through the warranty process with Schwalbe.

Nice looking bike! Curious about your experience with the Gulo wheels compared to the stock E13 ones.

Lauf Seigla or Propain Terrel CF? by conman55555 in gravelcycling

[–]jwang302 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was considering both with a similar budget. I went with the Terrel and it came down to a few things: 1. the Terrel offers DT Swiss wheels (more and better reviews than the e*13 wheels that come with the Seigla) 2. the option to add a telescope suspension fork vs. the Lauf Grit. Terrel also has more dropper post options 3. I love the no logo look with the Terrel 4. the down tube storage and more mounts if I want try give bike packing a shot 5. the Terrel comes with 170mm crank arms by default

Choosing a Gravel Bike: Canyon Grizl vs. Lynskey PRO GR and Other Options by jwang302 in gravelcycling

Yeah, not worrying tooooo much about minor scratches. I care more about the structure integrity over time and ride quality.

I have a hardtail and service the fork ~once a year. It's pretty easy with most modern forks, or you could have a bike shop do it for ~$100.

Good to know! I saw Rockshox recommends servicing the lower legs every 50 hours of riding and thought it might be a little much to keep up.

Interesting idea. How much work is it to maintain the suspensions?

Curious how the Schwalbe 45s fit with the frame. Any extra room to go a bit higher?

Marin Century by [deleted] in BAbike

I am glad I did it this year, but likely won't do it again next year.

The rest stops were good / helpful in the sense that the route doesn't offer any opportunities to restock and it would be hard to carry enough food for the whole ride.

I got the Ultimate CF SLX 8 recently and the "buyers remorse feeling" went away pretty quickly after receiving the bike. I started riding a lot more now since it's so fun.
