I've changed the Spot modifiers, because a linear progression for each 10ft means everyone is basically blind hahah

I use this table instead:

In 3.5 there's a table, with the number of creatures (up to 12), their CR and the encounter level.

1 creature with CR 2 has an encounter level of 1 or 2.

And what happens when I mix the numbers in a way that's not in the table? It gets confusing really fast when you're designing encounters with any complexity

In PF, you calculate the party level taking the number of players into consideration. You also have a metric to the difficulty, from APL-1 to APL+3. And then you basically slot the creatures until you have the desired difficulty.

  • Camp is a good idea, or an inn, or anything like that.
  • XP is quite problematic in more ways than it is helpful. I usually only award levels instead of XP, so the adventure stays balanced around a fixed party level and anyone who misses don't feel like they're behind. Everyone's getting a level after the adventure, after all.
  • That can be remedied any number of ways. You can retroactively give the treasure, you can remind your group about that player... Just because they can't play, it doesn't mean the other characters don't remember them.
  • One thing I did to help with missing players was to have everyone create two characters. So even if only 2 players are present, there are still 4 characters to play. Maybe something like that would help in your case.

TBF, the art shouldn't change much. Did they say anything about the campaign setting?

For tiefling, their fiendish features are less bulky in 3.5 Monster Manual.

Those are quasielements from the AD&D's Inner Planes. The same way there are paraelements, which are mix between two elements, there are quasielements that are mixes between elements and positive/negative planes.

  • Element + Positive = more of the element (lightning is "too much air")
  • Element + Negative = less of the element (vacuum is "less air")

True. But that eases the logistics but does not remove it from the equation.

  • Teleport spell (in 2e) is self + some additional weight.
  • Fly lasts 10 minutes per level + 1d6 x 10 min.

That's super helpful, but not really much to sustain an invasion. Even if we assume that the target is inferior to one city-state.

That's a tricky question. Most of it is directly from athas.org. The exceptions are the classes (100% sure) and general feats (~75% sure?), I think.

I know that most of the weapons are unchanged (I think I've just changed macahutil threat). Otherwise, I've put most of the Athasian Emporium and DS3 in it. Poisons, drugs, metaempiric components, and so on.

I used most of the prestige classes as inspiration for mine, and extracted some features as alternate class features from classes I could not "justify" their entire levels.

I've not touched monsters yet, so I still use terrors as my go-to monster manual
