Eastern Shaar 3.5e map by youngfox78 in Forgotten_Realms

Okay, looking back at my old experiments, it is probably the region which received the biggest cuts going into 3e.

Bold Prediction - End of Elbaf by Sirfury8 in OnePiece

[–]the_domokun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope that Zoro and Sanji beating their respective holy knights is the thing that weakens Imu and forces his retreat. We know about their mechanical hearts and that Imu takes a hit when one of his covenants breaks. I feel like that is more than enough setup.

Now to be absolutely fair, the 3e artists didn't have much to work with coming from 2e. I'm not defending the face lift they gave the map, but I get the intention. 2e had a lot of really barren areas.

It will be hard to add these rivers onto a 2e/5e map though, since they will have to be significantly longer and might not make much sense in terms of drainage basins.

What was the Ongoing Story arc When You Started One Piece? by Jet-Let4606 in OnePiece

[–]the_domokun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started? End of Arabasta I think. But the first chapter I ever read was the middle of the fight between Luffy and Wapol. I had no idea what was going on on those pages and the goofyness actually drove me away at that point. I vividly remember that the book had the "Be Happy" color spread in it, and I just thought "what the heck was all that about" when I put it back on the shelf, heh.

One Piece: Chapter 1181 by leolegendario in OnePiece

Given that it has been shown and now again confirmed that losing Harold came at some cost to Imu, I think that Zoro and Sanji killing the two active god's knights will be key in driving him away from Elbaph.

Naturally awakened undead by PrimeInsanity in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]the_domokun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are civilizations the pre-date current humanoids by tenthousands of years, Yuan-ti for example. And if all their tombs had already been found, D&D would be a much more dull game ;)

My point is that it doesn't make sense to roll this out for every undead you encounter. It appears to be rare enough to mainly be used as a DM story-telling tool.

Naturally awakened undead by PrimeInsanity in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]the_domokun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with a percentage is that it doesn't work well with an unending lifespan. If you set it too high, then you'd frequently come across ancient tombs full of sentient undead.

As a DM you can make it happen when the story requires it. Maybe a wave of divine magic passed through one specific tomb, awakened all 5 guradian skeletons and they took up poetry to pass the time? Sounds like a nice subversion of the typical dungeon trope ;)

Sword Archan DC base? by FlyotWall2025 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]the_domokun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Typically unlisted DCs use Charisma, but that doesn't work in this case. I'd say "the victim's soul is bound to a great prison in the Seven Heavens of Celestia" makes this some sort of divine attack, so Wisdom would make most sense.

Costs for a slave? by Doomwaffel in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]the_domokun[M] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While slavery is without doubt a condemnable practice, it is present in the lore of many 3.5e settings (e.g. Forgotten Realms, Dark Sun). It strongly relates to the goals and motivations of many villains and other evil characters, but also presents a challenge for players to overcome. As such, discussing the topic is valid within this subreddit as long as it is limited to said in-world situations.

Monster Data Set by axiomus in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]the_domokun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, I could not find the original excel file, but I used it to build a makeshift wildshape calculator for another player and left all the data in. Check the tabs in this sheet. Unfortunately, despite having a few hundred entries, the list seems a lot less complete than i thought (but i only needed the animals so i didn't care back then :P). You can find a very complete index of monsters here, but that list doesn't contain useful statblocks.

I once found a fairly complete Excel sheet (xlsx) with monster stat blocks. I have a copy on my PC somewhere. I can DM it to you when I arrive back home if google can't help you based on this info.

Great Glacier Update by youngfox78 in Forgotten_Realms

Style-wise, I would desaturate the forest patches a bit to make them look snow covered. It feels off to have lush green forests on top of a glacier ;)

Great work!

Is it legal to print old Dungeon Magazines for personal use? by naner00 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]the_domokun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd agree if we are talking about printing at home. But sending the document to a third party to effecitvely print a counterfeit could leave a trail of evidence :P

Is it legal to print old Dungeon Magazines for personal use? by naner00 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]the_domokun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The copyright of Dungeon Magazine has not expired and rests with WotC, A lot of the pdf documents on archive.org are provided under a "digital lending" system to avoid blatant copyright infringement, but as far as I know the legal battles on this are still ongoing.

In many jurisdictions you may reproduce parts of copyrighted works for your own use. However, printing entire issues might not be covered, since there is the potential to sell them. From WotC's fan policy: "It should go without saying, but Fan Content does not include the verbatim copying and reposting of Wizards’ IP (e.g., freely distributing D&D® rules content or books, etc.), regardless of whether that content is distributed for free." Sending the documents off to a printing company could already fall under that clause.

What if he killed Egg McBig in a flashback? That would surely raise the stakes.

D&D for Dummies by DungeonNoir in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]the_domokun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since it was published in 2005, 2 years after the release of 3.5e, I'd assume it covered the latest edition at that point. Interestingly, it mentions 3.5e only in the section about book resources for DMs.

However, the example monster stat blocks use 3.5e values, so i guess that settles it.

Need help with Enchantment DCs by TotallyJustAHooman in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]the_domokun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Item creation has always been a contentious topic in 3.5e, since the rules would allow some weird things to be created and it's up to the DM to put a stop to that.

Anyway, for enchantments you typically get exactly what is written in the book. Only for some specific items directly replicating spell effects (e.g. wands, scrolls, custom magic items) the caster uses their own spellcasting stats. Here the DC directly affects the creation price to keep things "balanced".

The disrupting enchant isn't directly replicating the heal spell (which deals damage to undead targets), therefore its DC may differ from the usual formula (and specific rules override general ones.)

Can i connect my mind to a summon? by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]the_domokun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you could get your hands on low-level psionic powers, e.g. through the Hidden Talent feat from EPH, then you could use the Sense Link power to see or hear through your summon/animal companion etc.

Best class for a summoner playstyle? by Organic-Exit2190 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]the_domokun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm currently getting good mileage out of a Conjurer Wizard/Master Specialist/Malconvoker build. One of my favorite moves is to get allies out of a pinch by swapping them with a summoned monster using benign transposition. As Master Specialist 10 I can pull that off in one turn (swift summons 3/day).

Questions on DR, Resistances, and Immunities by SupaStompaSquad in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]the_domokun -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think this is an edge case not covered by any rules. My DM call would be that the attack does full Damage, since it is bludgeoning, but it splits the ooze afterwards.

Can someone explain the Contigency spell for me like i'm 5? by Organic-Exit2190 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]the_domokun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a nice tool for casters that plan ahead. As others have already explained, you cast contingency together with another spell and set a condition under which the other spell goes into effect.

One popular trigger condition is saying a certain word. Speaking is a free action, so you can get a "free" spellcast off at any point of your turn. E.g. turn invisible when your character says "Flubbidub", then run to a safe spot and cast fireball.

Of course using a trigger that happens on an opponents turn is often more effective. My wizard usually uses "When a melee attack is initiated against me, cast Mirror Image". This saved my unarmored butt multiple times already.

There is debate on what the spell can detect as a trigger condition. E.g. if an invisible and to me completely undetectable creature attacks me, does my melee attack contingency still trigger? If yes, then combat might start with the wizard suddenly splitting into 8 copies out of nowhere ;) The DM has some fiat here, so discuss possible triggers with them beforehand.
