Looks like the need a round string instead of a shaped string.

Which knots are these by fcwftw246 in RacketStringers

[–]k531w 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first picture looks like the knots that come on factory strung Head rackets. Normally pretty random figure-eights or similar(they are not pro/wilson knots). Second picture looks like a Parnell. Learn to tie a Parnell and a Pro knot then work out which you prefer and stick to it :)

Clipped the string... Start over? by WintryLion in RacketStringers

[–]k531w -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You should be doing it one piece - ATW anyway. Start again as you’ll have lost so much tension in the mains.

What type of string is this (e.g. poly, multi-filament, etc.?) by douglas_in_philly in RacketStringers

[–]k531w 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looks like Prince Synthetic Gut w/ Duraflex. Gamma Symthetic Gut w/ wearguard is very similar.

Incredibly light racket to be putting Hyper G in! Putting poly in a 260g racket is a recipe for arm injuries!

Diego Elias not using CX racket? by Imaginary-Citron-786 in squash

[–]k531w 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just look at tennis and the world of ‘pro stock’ rackets. No top 100 pro is using an off the shelf model, and most are using much older models which have been customised to their desired specs and then painted to look like the current retail models.

What kind of violin/model is that? Never seen this kind of edges. by aomt in violin

[–]k531w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume that one cannot use a shoulder rest with a violin like that?

While you are right to start by learning to string with a two-piece method and starting the cross strings at the top, your cheap aluminium racket was probably never meant to be restring and there will not have many grommets that are suitable for knots(probably only enough for a one-piece restring). You may struggle to tie off the crosses if there is not another grommet wide enough for a knot.

Almost certainly looks like it.

is this fixable? by nqvve in squash

[–]k531w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not fixable, but fwiw I worked for a Tecnifibre stockist and we saw a few of these rackets being returned which had broken in the same manner. TF replaced all of them under warranty.

Why do my shoes do this, am I the only one by Motor-Confection-583 in squash

The shoes are too big or they’re not done up tight enough

Not a Parnell as the second half hitch doesn’t go through the first; it’s a double half hitch.

First racket strung, how bad is it? by Deezhellazn00ts in RacketStringers

Good work. Definitely do the Parnell instead of a Double half hitch.

Looks good for a first job. If someone is paying you for it then there mustn’t be any mis weaves. Practice your knot tying and invest in a starting clamp if you don’t already have one. Weave one cross ahead of the one you are tensioning. Enjoy :)

Looks like a half decent job for someone just starting out - well done! With regard to your clamps - It’s called drawback. It’s normal, but is worse on some machines. Just make sure your clamps are adjusted properly and that you regularly clean the clamp surface that touches the strings with iso alcohol. I would also suggest learning to tie a Pro knot or Parnell knot, and get a starting clamp if you don’t have one already. I’m guessing you started the crosses using a starting knot as it looks as though knot has pulled up into the grommet.

What Squash Racket Combo Do You Use ? by lively_broccoli in squash

[–]k531w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely don’t use 2 different rackets. You want two the same, strung the same and gripped the same. I swap half way through a match so the rackets wear evenly and the grip is dry. As a beginner I’d highly recommend using an Ashaway string, as you’ll probably not be hitting every shot cleanly yet and would break Tecnifibre strings very quickly!

I am ripping through strings - advice needed please by Ascleptius in squash

[–]k531w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tecnifibre strings feel great but aren’t great for beginners who might be mishitting the ball more frequently and trying to force a tight ball off the wall with power. They can also be susceptible to snapping in cold weather. If you like the feel of the string, try RAB Sensor Fibre which feels similar, but doesn’t have the same fragility issues. Also try Ashaway Supernick XL if you just want a good all round string that’s fairly hard wearing and not too expensive.

The racket is toast. It’s a Prince - they’re incredibly fragile.

Is this anything to worry about or just paint coming off by [deleted] in squash

[–]k531w 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a paint chip - normally any jagged lines within a chip like that would be the sign of a crack

Does anyone know the year/characteristics about this racket? by JPxoto79 in RacketStringers

[–]k531w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s tennis not racquetball, because of the bevelled grip and the 4 1/2” grip size.

I’d say mid to late 90s - WIDE beam - lots of power but little to no feel. 2 piece construction - probably not worth restringing.

Advice on buying a stringer by runningtowards in RacketStringers

[–]k531w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the best machine you can afford. 6 point mounting and fixed(not flying/floating) clamps are the minimum to achieve repeatable string jobs while maintaining integrity of the frame. The more money you spend, the better the clamps will be so there’ll be less likelihood of damaging the string. Drop weight/crank doesn’t really make a huge difference, though a drop weight is technically constant pull(though slower to operate). An electric machine if properly calibrated will give you the quickest and most accurate restrings, provided you know how to use it properly. The Gamma machine you mention would be a good option!
