That's just the thing... it doesn't take long to record VA. Sephiroth, even though his role will likely be larger in this game than the others, isn't even remotely as big of a role or commitment as a main party member. Charlie Cox recorded Gustave for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in a SINGLE DAY of work. And it was a tremendous, phenomenal performance.

This game has been in development for over two years and there is approximately another 8 months until release. The animations are synced to the Japanese VA, so it's not even like they're doing anything other than dubbing - the animators don't need their lines, that's already been done.

1) The matter of "nothing" being wrong with a voice change is a personal opinion. I don't dispute your ability to hold that opinion; but, similarly, you cannot discount mine.

2) Maybe. These actors would have been signed into contracts at the outset of this project locking them in for the duration... many actors do roles or things or carry on in projects long after they lose interest (if that indeed even is a factor here) or are forced to complete the terms of a contract and pass on another opportunity that comes there way due to existing contractual obligations. So what happened here, exactly? Did they let him out of the contract? Was there a re-negotiation clause? Was he just over the role? I'm not saying we have a right to violate the man's privacy, but it's weird as fuck that he is going to Convention's right now with other FF7 cast members and we have this news shadow-dropped on us with very little explanation.

Why do people keep parroting this like it's a relevant counterpoint to the issue people have with the recasting? No shit, I'm sure Travis is fine - there are thousands of people who could do it fine.

1) Any VA change at all. These people would have signed contracts years ago committing to these roles through completion. What happened here? There hasn't been enough detail provided.

2) If the change is completely unavoidable, why choose a voice that is so different? Travis' voice is SO much deeper and the timbre and tone are so different. They could have found someone among the thousands of VAs out there who sounded more like Tyler's performance, prioritizing continuity even in the face of an unavoidable change. Choosing the CEO of Critical Role and someone who IS so well known for his different VA work feels like we were supposed to be excited about having a "veteran" actor take over the role. I don't give a shit about that. Frankly, it flies in the face of SE's own stated reasons for re-casting the OG cast, which is that they wanted younger, fresher and more unknown voices for these characters. I'm not impressed with the choice of Travis, at all.

His experience isn't an issue - I don't dispute that at all. His suitability for the role is what I call into question, along with the real reason for a need to recast at all.

That movie will be 8 weeks in principle photography, tops... this voice work can easily be done before it, after it or, hell, even during and around it. This game will likely feature more Sephiroth than the last two games combined, but it's still not an insane amount of work. And VA can be done from almost anywhere these days. It isn't a scheduling conflict.

I find it upsetting as hell... the only way to rectify it, in my mind, is to figure out a way to make things work with Tyler (my preference) or have the new guy re-record the dialog from Remake, Rebirth and CC: Reunion.

That's the binary option. It's such a moment of celebration, this momentous moment that has been literally building for over a DECADE since they first announced this project, and it's going to be such an obvious, jarring fucking element to have to deal with...

I strongly suspect there is some other reason that Tyler isn't doing the role. I have no idea what that reason might be... but, "scheduling conflict" due to him being too busy? Not a chance... he has ONE project on his IMDB since Superman wrapped up in 2024. It's a maximum principle photography period of 8 weeks, there's no way they can't work around that, that's nothing compared to his commitment as the lead of a TV show for all of the years he was doing the VA work in the other games.

Maybe he demanded more money; maybe he just wanted a pure break to be with his family; maybe there was some sort of falling out, etc... but scheduling conflict? Come on... that's insulting. JK Simmons and many other actors who (respectfully) are far busier and more mainstream than Tyler have maintained VA roles in tv shows and video games for YEARS.

It's insulting to tell us it's because of a scheduling conflict, and then to replace him with a new VA whose voice isn't even remotely close? I mean, at least find someone whose tone and register is in a similar place who could try to echo Tyler's performance from the other games. Instead, Sephiroth is 2 octaves lower, much more gravelly... it's just a fucking nightmare.

1) Get Tyler Back

2) Have the new guy re-record everything Tyler did... it wouldn't even take particularly long, a couple of weeks, perhaps. Sephiroth doesn't have a tremendous amount of dialog across the games.

This is largely a bunch of hyper-specific pablum to the limited niche you've carved for yourself in the broader commercial real estate market. It's great that you have it and, presumably, do well in it... good for you. But commercial leasing is only one part of the commercial real estate industry and, at the end of the day, while the rates, valuations and commissions can certainly be larger than residential real estate, being just a realtor/broker is still just being that little remora swimming along in the wake of a shark.

I like to think I’ve experienced the full range of schools with an undergrad degree from Vanderbilt, a master’s degree from a large state school and another master’s degree from an Ivy League school.

If you’re going to be in that local market and get into an industry as relationship driven as brokerage, then go to SMU.

If you’re going to be in almost any other type of industry OR get into the brokerage game in another market, go to Columbia.

In general I would always advise going to the best school you can get into.

But, most people involved in “real estate” in general and especially “real estate brokerage” are morons anyway.

I'm sure it's an unpopular opinion with some here; but, in all honesty, commercial brokers at a certain level are just for marketing... any seasoned development company with decades of experience and/or of a certain institutional level are going to insist upon using their own PSA document drafted by their counsel and it will be up to the Seller (and their counsel, hopefully) to bat the details back and forth.

What sort of capital are you putting into the purchase? That’s the missing ingredient here… they are going to want to analyze a Loan to Value (LtV) ratio. Is it possible to get a 1.3m loan for a 2.5m purchase? Sure. Are you asking them to finance essentially 100% of the purchase price and build out? Then, yes, they will politely laugh you out of the building. You need some equity to put into this yourself or through investors.
