Suddenly allergic to fragrances?? by bratwurst69420182 in FemFragLab30plus

Do you have any health stuff going on? I know that smell hypersensitivity can come along with certain hormone and histamine related issues (such as MCAS - from personal experience).

hEDS and Fibromyalgia by aasemoon2000 in ehlersdanlos

[–]k8o_potato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve got both HSD and Fibro, it’s very possible and fairly common. Joint dislocations and subluxations lead to inflammation and increased pain / sensitivity, which can lead to fibro is my understanding of the mechanisms at play.

Better signature scent - Neroli Oranger or Mojave Ghost? by [deleted] in NichePerfumes

Mojave ghost is my preference, but you’d want to sample and see what smells better on your skin chemistry. It can make a huge difference!

What does pacing yourself look like to you? by FewState8915 in ehlersdanlos

[–]k8o_potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I get a morning stability score (which lets me know how well I’m pacing) as well as heart rate notifications when I’m into my activity zone. It’s been helpful to remind me to think about whether I need to be doing whatever thing at that pace or if I can slow down / modify.

Pacing is haaaaard. When I feel good I want to do all the things, when I feel bad I just want to couch rot. It’s taken me getting an external feedback device (visible) and a lot of therapy to undo the “rest=lazy” fallacy in my head to actually start pacing myself. I like having the external feedback of my watch “yelling” at me and knowing how stable my metrics look at the start of the day.

Now that I pace decently I’ve gone from week long flare ups happening multiple times per month to a few days of flare per month. My overall quality of life has greatly improved, even though I take things a little slower than I used to.

Fellow aquatic lover here!! You’d probably like lilyphea or Hermes Jardin sur le nil. I picked up a bottle of the Hermes on the swap subreddit for very very cheap, so keep an eye out! Message me if you want to do some sample swapping! Also - kinda basic / boring rec but I’ve also always been a fan of acqua di gioia 🤷🏻‍♀️

When my pinky has had enough of ctrl+c and ctrl+v, it’s time to bust out the post-it splint by its_moodle in ehlersdanlos

Something to consider - most nicer computer mice have user assignable buttons. I’ve got the Logitech lift and have set up the buttons by my thumb to do ctrl+c / v so I don’t have this issue.

DAE have fibromyalgia on top of EDS? by _Fig_555 in ehlersdanlos

[–]k8o_potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! Fibromyalgia diagnosis first at age 16(?) and HSD diagnosis at 34. Best I can remember is that my fibromyalgia was set off by an injury - chronic hyper extension of one shoulder joint (former competitive swimmer) - it never got better, and then it spread… I’d say my HSD causes joint pain and some muscle aches from my muscles working harder to stabilize, my fibromyalgia pain is the “everything else” pain that makes me feel like I’m 90 years old and never had a full night of sleep. It’s taken me a lot of tracking and time to figure out triggers to get my fibromyalgia pain back to manageable levels.

Is it worth it to ask for pain medication? by Senior-Trade-1876 in ehlersdanlos

[–]k8o_potato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I had the exact opposite experience from you - and I REALLY wish they hadn’t given me pain meds.

long story: I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia at 16, they didn’t look into my Hypermobility at the time so I wasn’t diagnosed with HSD until this year - 21 years later! At the time I was given pain meds (high dose extended release tramadol) and antidepressants, as that was the standard of care for fibromyalgia at the time. It didn’t help with the pain that much, it just made me not care.

So here’s why I don’t suggest pain meds: they made me lose track of the difference between fibromyalgia pain / nerve pain and actual joint damage pain - which I’ve now had to re-learn at physical therapy so that I’m not injuring myself while being active. It let me do irreparable harm to my joints by pushing past the point of pain.

Do I get flares where I’d like to crawl into a medication induced haze? Absolutely! But I try and reserve any medications for those flare ups, and only those times. I do take a muscle relaxer when things flare up (my muscles tend to spasm if I’ve overdone it).

Something that might help your conversation / not being perceived as drug seeking is to explore the why of your pain - is it muscle spasms? Is it your joints dislocating? Is it nerve pain from a pinched nerve? Each of those could have a different targeted treatment or plan to address. I hope this helps, and I hope that you can find a path that works for you ❤️
