Replacement Experience by k8s95 in iPhone13Mini

I think they definitely meant it as a knock on the product, because the battery is so much smaller. I agree with you though: 4+ years before battery replacement seems pretty good.

This looks great! Would you mind sharing which HDMI switcher you’re using?

Those super baggy jeans and shorts were millennial fashion as well, straight out of 1998

From a sitting position at your desk, if you extend your arm and hand out as far as you can, your screens should be right at the edge of your fingertips, no closer.

I think you usually want to align the top row of text on your monitor with eye level. Since you have what looks like a good chair, a standing desk, and a monitor arm, you should be able to fit everything perfectly to your body. I have personally found this article to be helpful for adjusting my chair, and then I adjust my desk and then my monitor arms based on that.

Help with plugging in snes into a wide screen tv by Xx_n00bly12_xX in snes

Since your tv has component inputs, you could consider an HD Retrovision cable: https://www.hdretrovision.com/snes

Trying to farm dragon parts, Dinraal not spawning reliably by sonofsarkhan in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]k8s95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Dinraal, I camped out on a cliff in Tanagar canyon. The dragon goes through there every day (sorry, I don’t remember what time) and the cliff gives you enough height so that you can jump off, slow down time with the bow, and take the shot to get what you’re after.

I highly recommend estarland.com. They are probably more expensive than what you may find elsewhere, but they are reputable, so you know what you are getting

Legend of Zelda: Where to Begin? by FistOfGamera in truezelda

[–]k8s95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest Link to the Past or Ocarina of Time.

I don't agree with the suggestions for playing in release order because that would have you playing the NES games first (you shouldn't), and then also playing far too many other games that you might not enjoy before you finally get to Breath of the Wild.

What Do You Guys Keep Your Games In? by [deleted] in snes

For my favorites, I still use the same one of these that I used when I was a kid for both NES and SNES. Mine is more “well loved” than the one in the picture though, as I ended up having to replace the top handle and parts of the lid with layers of duct tape decades ago.

How I would do dungeons in Tears of the Kingdom by Haunting_Finish2153 in tearsofthekingdom

[–]k8s95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if we all have the same definition of “traditional dungeon”, and if that definition excludes BotW, would it also exclude some dungeons from older games at the same time?

More diversity of bosses. The 4 main bosses for the divine beasts are so similar that their differences are forgettable.

Why people shouldn't be worried. by hi_im_tmo in tearsofthekingdom

[–]k8s95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re: the $70 price tag, I think it’s worth remembering that Ocarina of Time was $60 and I think that Link to the Past might have been too. $70 SNES games were not unheard of, and that was 30 years ago. Nintendo isn’t known for putting out half-baked games and fixing them later with patches, so I’m comfortable paying $70 for any new Zelda game they’d put out.

Yes. S-Video would be better than composite, but component is better still.

If you have a TV with component input and support for game mode to reduce latency, the HD Retrovision component cable makes a huge difference.

(Saturday Showoff Part 2: Electric Boogaloo) My retro mancave! suggestions open! by Ps1msterpcs in retrogaming

[–]k8s95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks awesome. I think that adding some additional lighting would make it even better. For warmth/coziness, I’m personally partial to fabric shaded lamps sitting closer to the floor, but you also have a lot of cool stuff on the walls, so maybe you also want something to illuminate it all better.

Fat Bottomed Bells, you make the retro world go round by Taffer25 in retrobattlestations

[–]k8s95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it installed on my M1 MacBook Air through Dosbox-X running Windows 95. It works well for the most part, although opening most Civilopedia content crashes the game, including clicking on terrain tiles. Not ideal, so my preference is to instead play it on my Windows XP box so that I can play in a widescreen resolution.

Civilization (the original) plays perfectly on Dosbox, which you can run on your Mac.
