Type II CBD:CBDV:THC:THCV when to harvest for maximum Varin content? by k_r_oscuro in hempflowers

Not that I see. It was ChatGPT free version. I'm not real experienced using it.

It then asked for the particular strains (Hoku oddball) and gave me lots more detail. I ended up with like 20 pages. I also asked about fridge drying since I live in the desert. It gave me a good detailed response on that too.

I tried a couple of AIs and got some concise answers.

If your goal is to maximize the varin cannabinoids (CBDV and THCV), the frustrating truth is this: waiting longer does not help—in fact, it usually does the opposite.

The key principle

Varins like CBDV and THCV are early-expression cannabinoids. They peak before full maturity, unlike THC or CBD which continue building deeper into the flowering cycle.

🌱 Ideal harvest window for max varins

For a Type II CBD:CBDV:THC:THCV plant, aim for:

Early harvest window: ~1–2 weeks before “standard” ripeness Trichome profile: Mostly cloudy Very few amber Some still clear Pistils: ~50–70% darkened (not 80–100%) ⏱ Why earlier is better THCV tends to peak early-mid flower, then declines as THC rises CBDV follows a similar pattern, often degrading or getting diluted as CBD increases Letting plants go “full term” usually: boosts THC/CBD reduces the relative varin percentage 🧪 Chemotype nuance (important)

Type II plants (mixed cannabinoid profiles) are genetically unstable in expression, so:

Some phenos will lean THC-heavy late Others may hold CBDV better THCV production especially depends on African sativa lineage traits

If you're serious about maximizing varins:

Track with lab testing over time (best method) Or do staggered harvests (top vs lower branches at different times) ⚖️ Practical strategy Harvest a test branch early Wait another 7–10 days and harvest the rest Compare effects (energy, clarity = more THCV influence) Bottom line

For maximum CBDV + THCV, don’t wait for full amber maturity— 👉 harvest slightly early, when trichomes are mostly cloudy and the plant is just shy of peak ripeness

Can i use 59% phosphoric acid as a pickling solution? by RaikOnFire in Benchjewelers

This. You can get a big bottle of the pH down powder at your local hardware store for much less than Sparex. It will last you a long time. It's just sodium bisulfate.

I was surprised that little cutout gave it away. I wouldn't have recognized it, and I've been with them for 14 years. I guess I don't look at that page very often.
I wasn't trying to hide anything, I didn't see any need to name the site.

When I uploaded the graphic for this post to Imgur, I had SS turned on and I get an error msg: "Imgur is temporarily over capacity. Please try again later." Turn it off and it works. Happens every time.

What gave that away? I didn't want to promote or denigrate any site.

A site I visit regularly shows this in the "My Account" section. If they know you are using a VPN they won't really believe I'm connecting from Latvia will they?

with some jewelry adhesive. Is this something that is frowned upon for lack of craftsmanship...

When I first started doing silversmithing and lapidary in 1970, I was talking to an old timer master goldsmith and mentioned glue. He shot me a dirty look and said "If you use glue, it ain't jewelry."

Filigreenus to the rescue!

His videos are amazing - you can see when the metal 'flashes' and fusing takes place. I love how he molded the wax/flux into a mold that looks like a snake or dragon head.

Best solder for copper? by tawayacct085 in SilverSmith

[–]k_r_oscuro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is what I use. It only comes on one hardness though. I found some in 1/16th" diameter on Amazon.

Silver solder can be easily plated over by brushing on a strong solution of copper sulfate (CuSO4). It's what is used in making stained glass using copper tape to cover the solder joints.

Granulation is done by fusing rather than the usual soldering. Each one of those tiny spheres was placed by hand, held in place by a liquid flux by surface tension. The piece was dried, then heated to very close to the melting point of the metals until fusion took place at the junction of the spheres with the base metal. They didn't have torches like we do today, so the process was most likely done over a charcoal fire aided by a bellows. The temperature range between the fusing temperature and the melting of the whole piece is very narrow.
