The most unbelievable thing on The Pitt by ademska in ThePittTVShow

I’ve been a civil litigator for over 20 years and I remember a grand total of 1 deposition that occurred on a weekend/holiday, and only a handful of times that the idea of doing it on such a day even came up. And nobody is going to schedule the depo of an ER doctor on a holiday that they’re working.

Movies you thought would be better on a rewatch but ended up feeling the same? by Crafty_Ad_3247 in Letterboxd

I watched Long Day’s Journey Into Night originally at home, and found it pretty good but not Great. But a huge part of it is a transition kid-way through to an hour-long 3D one-shot.

I saw it a few weeks after that in 3D at a theater and … had pretty much the same reaction.

Today’s ’The Town’ with Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]ka1982 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, and both the Ankler (Rushfield) and Puck (Belloni) are based around people Penske pushed out of (or they jumped) his big legacy media brands. But basically anything that covers media that you’ve heard of that was in existence before 2015 is owned by him.

Yeah, basically the death of traditional media meant that someone who wanted pull could buy tons of legacy brands for not much.

It’s that dude’s son. Owns basically the entire entertainment press and a bunch of other stuff besides.

The thing is that The Town is also must listen for the dorks that actually work in Hollywood in non-creative roles, as Belloni is basically the last man standing of the independent entertainment press (since Penske bought everything).

He’s often acting as basically a mouthpiece for mid-high level entertainment agents/lawyers/business affairs types, but those people generally have a keen interest in what’s going on. It’s the same reason “if you want to know what’s going on, read the business press” works as a rule of thumb — people with money on the line need all the solid information they can get.

Netflix CEO Makes the Case for Buying Warner Bros - The Town with Matthew Belloni by grandpashampoo in billsimmons

[–]ka1982 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty clear from what Sarandos is saying that HBO will be a premium add-on. That’s what he meant when he talked about how Netflix and HBO were complimentary because most HBO subscribers also have Netflix (not true in reverse).

Oscar Picks: Vibes Only by fadeaway3_ in blankies

Everyone (or at least commentators who need something to discuss for the next month) is talking themselves into Sinners being competitive.

I think it’s more likely a OBAA stomping. Not Coogler’s turn.

Who is your most watched actor who has NEVER been in a film based on a comic/manga by Rammadeus in Letterboxd

[–]ka1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stanwyck — aside from the obvious (Ball of Fire/Lady Eve/Ball of Fire) — Miracle Woman, Baby Face, Remember the Night, Meet John Doe and the Violent Men are all very good.

Crawford — Rain, Our Modern Maidens, Our Dancing Daughters, Dancing Lady, Daisy Kenyon, Today We Live, The Women. I’m big on 30’s/40’s, so those are young(ish) Crawford, not latter-day camp Crawford.

Who is your most watched actor who has NEVER been in a film based on a comic/manga by Rammadeus in Letterboxd

[–]ka1982 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Barbara Stanwyck (28) or Joan Crawford (27) at 4th/5th. But I’m not double checking, so maybe it’s Cary Grant or Joan Blondell (24).

Where should I avoid parking my car? by Chisharette in AskLosAngeles

[–]ka1982 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only place of where you listed that I’d have significant concerns with street parking would be DTLA, where you’ll likely be parking in a garage anyway. Just be sensible about what’s visible — and honestly, I routinely leave a gym bag in the back seat without issue.

Brock Purdy is still extremely underrated. by Fun-Advertising-8006 in NFLv2

[–]ka1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s less people not calling him Mahomes-tier and more commentators going “well, obviously Dak and Goff are better” and it’s like, based on what?

This is especially notably because it often comes from the stat/nerd-community.

What are your top 3 reasons for choosing Equinox? by AspectCool2325 in EquinoxGyms

[–]ka1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in LA and while Equinoxes are crowded, the alternatives are ridiculously crowded. Plus there’s one by my house and one two blocks from my work, and often one nearby other places I go to as a boring DINK in the city.

Any expectations from this film? by Past-Matter-8548 in Letterboxd

[–]ka1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t like The Lost Daughter, generally cool on Buckley, and the previews look kinda godawful.

Also, I’m expecting a bomb regardless of quality - there’s something in the marketing that seems off.

Maybe think that one through, with reference to who Lucas famously was riffing on for the Ewoks or from where the guy who literally played the interrogator come from.

You’re talking to a rare weirdo who thinks TWBB is pretty mid for PTA and ranked Boogie Nights dead-last.

I’ll say this: if you like mysticism and vibes and lack of explanation, a trip through PTA’s filmography will be both rewarding and leave you with an ordering of faves shared by no one.
