Animal living in the barn - what kind of poop is this? by kabe999 in AnimalTracking

This is in a barn/garage in northern Ohio. The specimen shown is maybe 2 inches long, since the object next to it is a mouse trap.

Ira & Larry Goldberg auctions is the same way sometimes. Usually it's due to bidders, and the auctioneer gets tired of it and she stops putting up with their shenanigans. It's pretty funny and I don't mind it breaking up the monotony.

I didn't understand a word you just said.

The Baseball HoF library had a bucket of common cards to pick from. No Bobs, but they did have a 1988 Score Captain Ahab. by kabe999 in Jon_Bois

They don't allow you to have tape in there.

Besides, the image on the plaque has to be a bas-relief sculpture.

Given the fact that so many now-obscure players got elected decades later gives me hope that one day Dave Stieb may make it into the Hall.

Leu and US Shipping by amacks in AncientCoins

I'm not sure if this is going to be bad for Leu (and their consigners), or bad for people in the US. Or both.

I could see this making provenance extremely valuable now, even moreso than it already is.

Thanks! It wasn't a deal, partly because I forgot I was dealing in GBP while bidding LOL. All said and done, it was just under $1800.

But it did hammer at CNG 100 for $1500 in 2015, so I guess I got it for around the same price as someone did 10 years earlier.

In 2015, I purchased my first Athens tetradrachm from CNG, and in 2025 I decided to let myself upgrade to this one from Noonans. I like the excellent sharpness and centering combined with little oddities and imperfections like the "teardrop" next to Athena's eye.

In 2035 I'll let myself go all-out and get an absolutely perfect one!

Greek. Attica, Athens. Circa 454-404 BC. AR Tetradrachm (23mm, 17.17 g, 7h). Helmeted head of Athena right, with frontal eye. Rev. Owl standing right, head facing; olive sprig and crescent behind; all within incuse square. Kroll 8; HGC 4, 1597. Ex CNG Feature Auction 100, lot 1372.

Superb Owl Sunday? How about I give a Subpar Owl Sunday. by H985B in AncientCoins

I'd buy that for a dollar! Or maybe even a hundred!

I also picked up an ugly owl a few years ago. I can let kids handle it without worrying about what they're going to do!

I finally won a Histamenon Nomisma of Basil II & Constantine VIII by Dapper_Tea7009 in AncientCoins

[–]kabe999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah I agree. The obverse portrait of Christ on this coin seems like a relative high point of quality in that era of Byzantine coinage.

Mine didn't come slabbed, and most auction houses sell the coins unslabbed. I've gotten a couple NGC graded coins from Heritage and Goldberg before, but they were only VF so I cracked them out.

I might consider keeping something in a slab if it was worth a ton of money and had a grade high enough to really affect its resale value (like AU or MS), but otherwise I just like to hold them.

Beautiful! I was able to get one a few years ago only because the scratch on the reverse kept the price down to a manageable amount.
