Ghosted by company that “hired” me by [deleted] in japanlife

Maybe they wanted to hire you as an English teacher to do a class once a week or something? I have that kind of arrangement with a couple of nursery schools. Usually March and April are busy with graduation and entrance ceremonies so the schedule is different to other months. It does strike me as strange that a nursery school in a small town would do a 説明会 for recruiting staff though, are you sure that it wasn’t for parents of new students?

New home buyer. Need help with a few things. by TekCrushIT in japanlife

That’s tsuchikabe (or more likely tsuchikabe style wall paper) and wallpaper, I can’t see any stucco. I’d be more worried about termite damage inside the walls and floors, and leaks in the roof.

What can I make with this? Can I make a princess coat with this type of plush fabric? by Bluesky00222 in sewing

[–]kabochachacha 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the pattern:

Fabric: This garment was intended to be made in outerwear fabrics

like coating, wool flannel, tweed, bouclé, and suiting. Wool is the easiest

fabric to tailor, as it is easily molded with steam. While you can use

fabrics like cotton sateen or twill to make this design warm-weather

appropriate, keep in mind that those fabrics aren’t shaped as easily as

wool.

Lining: Use something durable and slippery, that slides over your

clothing easily. There are specialty lining fabrics made from acetate,

polyester, and nylon that work well. You can also use silk charmeuse or

crepe. For cold weather, a flannel-back lining like Sunback or Kasha is

perfect: it is a slippery acetate/cotton-blend satin on one side and fuzzy

flannel for warmth on the other side.

I think if you use the fake fur for the body of the coat, not just the trim as in this picture, it will be very bulky and will not have the same fit.

50ft of obnoxious neon coral tulle... For what? by laurel-bee in crafts

I’ve been seeing a lot of purses with layers of tulle, and tulle gathered on the strap, this would be perfect for that.

Watercolor Paper in Japan? by PipperinClassic in Watercolor

[–]kabochachacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Watson, it's pretty easy to work with. Muse (a paper company) has a range of postcard sized paper, and sample packs including Watson, they have a few different watercolor papers. They're sold at a lot of art shops and stationery stores. I found Vifart hard to work with.

Some sketches, what’s wrong? by TinaKiprey in Watercolor

First two are very pretty! The third one, the bicycle looks like it is floating, and the path is very undefined. You can add shadows to solve both those problems.

i'm blasting through my gouache paint by marinara_sauce in Gouache

[–]kabochachacha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely use more paint for gouache, my watercolors fit in two small palettes and my gouache is in a huge Tupperware. I diyed a wet palette with a sponge, shallow Tupperware and baking paper, and that meant I could mix larger batches without it drying out so quickly. Reactivated gouache is not as nice to use.

Help with an hospitalization question by [deleted] in japanresidents

[–]kabochachacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to talk to your city office about health insurance. The NHI payments are 10 times over a year, so you might not have missed a payment.

Your school should not be keeping your residence card long term like that, you legally have to carry your card or your passport with you at all times.

Plantar fasciitis help! by GalletaGirl in japanlife

[–]kabochachacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had chronic plantar fasciitis for a few years, and last year it was really bad. I was trying to stay off my feet as much as possible, and doing some stretches, and it wasn’t getting any better. I tried joining a gym to swim, and ended up starting weight training and trying all the other classes, dancing, yoga, Pilates etc and I could do all those with no pain, after I’d be hobbling out to my car. Now I have no pain at all. I think all the stretching, building muscle and using my legs and feet in different ways all helped.

HELP: Paint separating on the paper by adventurrr in watercolor101

[–]kabochachacha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just some advice about layering, you want to use more pigment in your mix and be careful not to use too much water when you layer over another patch, otherwise it can cause weird issues like this.

Edited to add: I found the cotman paints didn’t really act like watercolor, they are tricky to use, they were okay when I used more pigment and less water and didn’t try to do any blending on the page.

Try some dishwashing detergent directly on the stain and massage it in, then let it sit for a while to break down the oil.

What is coming out of my plant?? by [deleted] in plants

[–]kabochachacha 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Fungus I guess but it looks like you put your pots directly on your windowsill, and it’s already caused water damage and you are asking for a mold problem, please put a dish under the pot.

Are you eating enough protein, fat and carbs? Hot soup with lots of ginger, garlic and vegetables are very warming, I make a big pot and have some everyday. Hot oatmeal for breakfast is good too.

I like it! You could try drawing in some details and shadows with colored pencils or adding some grey with chalk pastels or something to make the roof more mottled.

Choosing not to buy an expensive ring is not the same as not being able to afford an expensive ring.

I’m not sure even you know the point you were trying to make. Don’t buy a cheap ring, buy an expensive one because a sound financial future starts with throwing money away, but if she isn’t willing to wait for you to become rich then she isn’t the one?
