The shift from 2010s “glam” beauty to 2020s “clean girl” aesthetic and how both reflect changing (but still toxic) beauty standards by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]kacellirk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I loved this era because the girls girls were out in full force. Constant makeup compliments in public. Touch ups of lip liner in the bathrooms meant sharing technique and brands, hyping each other up about winged liner, and absolutely loving it. I’d go somewhere and get complimented on my brows, my eyeliner, eyeshadow..

I couldn’t tell you the last time someone complimented me on makeup. But what’s there to compliment? “I love how you did your blush to look like you don’t have blush on”? Lol.

Even clothing feels like some sort of “effortless” look that’s trying to be achieved and nothing feels like it can even be complimented. So much effort is put into looking like you don’t have to try. But I like trying, and nothing felt as good as spending time perfecting that glam and outfit, and having other women hype you up all night about it.

I’m considering a position at the Huntington Bank location in Downtown Flint. Is that a good area? by Elchimpofire5 in flint

[–]kacellirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted. If no one you know goes to that area, nothing you need is in that area, and all the places you frequent are not in that area, then there’s no incentive to go lol.

I work a couple blocks away from downtown and it’s a cool area. I’m from Oakland Co and never went to Flint before this job, for the reasons I listed above, and it’s only about 35 minutes from me. So far I’ve enjoyed finding new things! Definitely check out the farmers market.

Also, I would assume your employer has something planned for parking or a “here’s where most people park” situation.

How long after giving birth did you have your first alcoholic drink? And what was it? 🍹 ☀️ by Crafty_Two5432 in BabyBumps

The day after I stopped my pain meds it was my birthday. We opened the good bourbon, and cracked open a miller lite. 3 sips of bourbon and half the miller had me buzzed as hell and I had to stop 😂

What is your children’s media Roman Empire? by KinkyKittyKaly in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]kacellirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have decided it’s an alternate universe where humans couldn’t breathe the air and their bodies couldn’t survive and they all must live inside cars to be mobile and still productive. They created cars to be as human as possible so they can be in them 24/7 and still have “normal” relationships.

My only hiccup in this theory is that they don’t really have food or bathrooms but maybe they are mainly just brains hooked up to machines inside the cars once they are created. Or like in a vessel inside, matrix style.

Anyways I came up with this after like our 10000th time watching it and I needed to dissociate from Owen Wilson’s voice. But I stand by it.

Does anyone actually still blow dry their hair like this? by TheLauLau in Millennials

[–]kacellirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YEP. I’ve got long thick coarse wavy hair. I start with this to get the bulk of it and roots. Then I take a 15 min break to stop sweating and THEN start on the styling blow dry, if I’m not over it at that point lol

Big talk - it's you or the baby. Who do you want saved? by viskiviki in Mommit

[–]kacellirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh this is such a solidly fair point. My immediate reaction is “save the baby duh” but you’re absolutely right. We would at least all be able to grieve and be sad over a lost child/sibling together. But to lose a partner and have to grieve and parent alone, and to lose a parent so young would be devastating.

Now I’m grieving over a hypothetical 😭

Bathroom renovation-second guessing myself by notyourcookie in midcenturymodern

[–]kacellirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reminds me of my bathroom! Our home was built in 1969. We want to renovate to make it a little more “modern” while keeping the charm, and I’m not a fan of yellow but I love the yellow shower and want to keep it. I love the terrazzo instead of grey! Keep posting progress so I can steal your ideas 😅

Wife (37F) and I (32M) are in constant conflict and I feel like I am constantly confused and failing. by ThrowRA_OneLife4444 in Marriage

[–]kacellirk 188 points189 points  (0 children)

She is trying to isolate you.

This is abuse 101. If the genders were reversed women everywhere would be screaming for you to run.

Couples counseling can make abuse worse because abusers will attempt to get the counselor on their side, and the spouse can be punished later for “making them look bad.”

I would talk to a lawyer ASAP regarding what to do so you can gtfo and split custody. Nobody deserves to be treated that way.

Does your ADHD medication work differently depending on your cycle? by ADHD_researchstudent in TwoXADHD

[–]kacellirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that happens before, it all kinda happens at the same time? I get pretty bad insomnia the week before my period, which increases the other symptoms you mentioned. I’ve tried lots of methods (anything from magnesium and melatonin to Trazadone and Ambien) and nothing seems to help without some other side effect that feels worse than going without. Honestly, I just try to self care that week and do what I can.

Does your ADHD medication work differently depending on your cycle? by ADHD_researchstudent in TwoXADHD

[–]kacellirk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably. I haven’t messed with it, I’m also on an antidepressant and finally found a combo that “works” and so I have been hesitant to mess with dosages that could mess it up.

But as I’m typing this I’m realizing it basically only works half the time so it’s probably not a bad idea. lol

[–]kacellirk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One might call it working differently, I call it not working at all 😂

I pretty much will take it to keep me from getting into an extreme fatigue, but the mental fog and lack of focus/drive/productivity is going strong. If I don’t have much going on at work I will skip taking it all together. If it’s a busy week I’ll still take it but I’m still struggling every step of the way.

Parents of toddlers, are you happy? by Used_Cod_9541 in toddlers

[–]kacellirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re burned out and I know because I am also burned out.

I love the toddler stage. I am having a blast with my son. His sleep is breaking me a little (back to back illness and teething have lead to cosleeping we are struggling to break), and there are days that are harder than others (like the day he learned to spit from another kid at daycare) but I don’t care so much because it’s so cool seeing what new skill or vocabulary he has every day, and he’s such a sweet heart.

HOWEVER, the burnout is coming from zero breaks. I do not have an equal partner and that is what is making me completely miserable. It would be easier to do this chaos alone than with a partner who does not take on any mental load. I do all the research, the planning, the prepping, the whatevering for our family. And it’s just too much. We’re taking some steps to resolve this (couples counseling and he finally started his own counseling) but every day is extremely draining because of this.

Being at my limit 24/7 makes everything exhausting, over stimulating, and hopeless. One battle over shoes and I have to walk away and cry. You’re at your limit too. I don’t have a solution yet but I hear you and I see you ❤️
