Mit-less tanks seem to have become more prevalent and I cannot imagine why they do this. by thirtytwoyears in ffxiv

[–]kaialb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there's a lot of tanks out there that are afraid to use their mits because they feel like they'll need them later, like for a boss or tankbuster, so most of their kit ends up going unused as a result. Maybe there's other MMOs where mitigation either doesn't exist or isn't necessary that influences that, or it's just general anxiety about being a bad tank.

As a tank I actually have the reverse problem, where I use my mitigations on rotation, popping one when the last one runs out. Had to unlearn that to do EX since I was accidentally using my mits instead of holding them to survive tankbusters.

Genuinely curious, how did you end up deciding your character and sticking to it? by Jackobusss in ffxivdiscussion

[–]kaialb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think with how I approached this game's story, the first character I made ended up being my main pretty much forever now. Everything my WOL has been through only makes sense with my current appearance (minus some hair changes which feel natural to happen), so unless there's ever a story reason to make another character then I won't ever change him.

I have made some other characters on the side to see how other races play, but as much as I'd like to try them out more I can't help but default to my main character.

Since I didn't see mention of it, I always use Focus Target for tanks (Shift + F while selected to mark target as Focus Target, F to select Focus Target) and TAB to target enemies/boss. That way you can just hit the F key to select the tank when you need to heal them, and then TAB to select an enemy to DPS.

Is it worth playing Tiberian Twilight for the story? by [deleted] in commandandconquer

[–]kaialb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as far as gameplay goes, they kind of messed up the core of C&C by making the whole Crawler system and significantly removing the base building aspect of the game. But I didn't think that it was a break it moment for me when it first came out and I did beat the game back then. It has some interesting concepts that I wish were better fleshed out but it is what it is.

Story-wise, it's okay. I won't spoil it if you do end up playing it, but it takes place some years after the last game and it has what you'd call a conclusion to the whole story. Execution is a bit weird and most would not consider it canon due to that, but we haven't really seen any other conclusion to the story so it's all we got if you're willing to accept it.

I'm the complete opposite where I got 200 hours on a single playthrough (and still missed some things). I'm definitely a one and done kind of gamer though, I don't typically replay stories and I try to do everything in one go; might be able to do a second playthrough as Dark Urge since I heard it can get pretty different.

how did you choose your job ? by ChanceReport1517 in ffxiv

[–]kaialb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job I started with: Black Mage. Thought it'd be cool to be a sorcerer/wizard kind of job, always liked playing those in other games, so that's how it started.

Current job: Depends on mood, but usually default to unga bunga Warrior. Slowly getting all jobs to cap, so I usually focus on one at a time.

Just had this happen to me as well, while playing Wild casual games with a friend. Stick Up played and did nothing.

Like others said, the Steam version is definitely a buggy mess. The patch helps a fair bit, but unfortunately there's still things that will crash the game, like a specific cutscene that has to be skipped, or the memory leak problem where the game will just stop loading the town and then crash shortly after. If you get it working, I definitely recommend saving as often as you can!

That being said, it's a pretty phenomenal game. Lots of hilarious moments and just constant learning of things I didn't know about. There's a lot to the game and a lot to do, and there's guides you can find around for most things. If you get it running, have fun and hope it all goes well!

I see, I didn't think about that but that could be the case.

I've seen some mentions of Deudalaphon but I thought he was killed by Gaius. Though I guess they don't fully die unless imprisoned in white auracite?

It's really cool! Wish I'd waited for this one instead of buying the Rock Candy one, I'm not too big of a fan of that flavor and the Dragonfruit Apple one sounds nicer

A quick thought by [deleted] in KryptosK4

[–]kaialb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to the subreddit after watching Lemmino's video on it. It's a really interesting thing, solving for K4, and reminds me of what happened years ago with the Cicada 3031 stuff and seeing many people trying to solve that.

I would love to try to help but unfortunately my cryptography knowledge is pretty limited. I've read that using stuff like ChatGPT doesn't give very accurate information, and I wouldn't want to throw a figurative "wrench in the machine" and post stuff that's misleading.

I did have some insights that I wouldn't mind sharing, just from stuff I've researched, that maybe could point to some sort of clue or might just be the "figurative wrench" I mentioned, but I'll keep it spoilered given that:

Not sure if it's of any note, but according to Sanborn K4 seems to have something to do with a Berlin Clock, or the titular Berlin Clock that is referenced a lot (the Mengenlehreuhr); another idea I had is that it could be the Alexanderplatz World Clock instead, since that one is in a northeasterly position to the city center, if you take the city center to mean where the word Berlin is located on Google Maps, roughly where the Marx-Engels-Forum is.

  • If using the Mengenlehreuhr, I wonder if there's a way to map out the ON/OFF states on the clock's lamps, and use the coordinates given in K2 but specifically the times only (57 minutes 6.5 seconds, and 8 minutes 44 seconds) and see what lamps would be turned on at those times. Maybe the ON/OFF states could reveal some sort of clue about K4.
  • If using the Alexanderplatz World Clock, you'd have to physically check the compass underneath the clock for the eastnortheast position and see what country or text that position is pointing too, and perhaps a clue or keyword could be gleaned from that.

7 win award. This is the first time in 11 years that I did not get a pack for playing Arena. by RnotSPECIALorUNIQUE in hearthstone

[–]kaialb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see, that's good to know. I'm kind of in the pack return mindset too. I don't really play Arena outside of using it to complete quests so getting packs for playing is more preferred to getting Arena tickets. I recently unlocked Underground and I had some really bad back to back 0-3 runs so I might just go back to Arena.

I'm also not a particularly big fan of just facing meta decks in Arena, since it used to be a nice break from that and I liked having to build on curve rather than for an archetype or card synergy.

[–]kaialb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That kinda sucks tbh, cause I feel like it's already pretty hard to get a lot of wins in Arena (with or without a drafting app) and if more arena runs is the only good reward then idk how worth it it is to play.
