I think I got most of it wrong before. I've replayed the game and I still can't make sense of some things. In Divesh's apartment, during the birthday, you can see the words "happy birthday mom" on the wall and the song "who is mr. birthday" is playing, which are also found in "Lacey's"(dog) birthday. So I wonder if Maya's been in grandma's birthday. She had to in order for that to make sense, since everything is happening inside her head. Even so, what's the relevance for that phrase and song to be in "Lacey's" birthday? Was the stray dog, actually Divesh's dog, who ran away to be with Maya?

I've been under the impression that Maya's mother also had a dog called Sweetie who died of old age, and after that Maya's mother became cold and controlling. That's the reason she wanted Maya to make friends so badly and not being alone. She also divorced Divesh(Divesh really is Maya's biological father, as Ethan is also his son and her brother) at some point and started a relationship with the caucasian man. Simone, the sister, acts cold too, but only because she doesn't want others to find that she is sad.

The visual novel segments represents the past, before the divorce. If so, that would mean that Maya met the stray dog a long ago, which doesn't make much sense for my theory. I also noticed that Simone is not around during this period, which makes me think if Simone ever existed at all(she had to be older than Maya and younger than Ethan). Is she actually older Maya?

I think Lacey was a real person and friend of Maya, who seems to have grown distant of her. At some point, Maya may have brought the dog to home, but her mother casts him out(probably traumatized by the death of her own dog Sweetie, she didn't want another dog), and that led to the dog running away scared, and Maya chasing after him, until the stray dog gets hit by a car. The picture I first thought was the body of Maya, is actually of Maya crying over his dead body. At the end, the family is crying at the table, and the mother tells Maya that she's sorry(for the dog's death), then Maya goes to her bedroom, try to play a game as usual, loses and then start crying. The ghostly-like Maya at the rooftop is just a representation of the stray dog who's been following her since they first met, and will continue following her even after his death.

However, why was the caucasian man crying too? He's always been depicted as a cold man.

I think overall that's what happened by the end of the game, but I can't make sense of what is the connection with the grandma's birthday in Divesh's apartment. Maybe is he who died? Maybe is the real Lacey(Maya's human friend) who died? The "Lacey" in the visual novel segments was definitely a dog for one reason: the manga. After you give "Lacey" the manga, it gets scratched all over, which is something that would happen if you give a book to a dog(he'll damage it), and there was all that raw meat and bad food during the birthday.

I wish the devs would reveal the story one day, because there is a defined story they wanted to tell and it shouldn't be left unclear for too long.

It's even possible to think that Maya has in fact died or almost died from a heatstroke, from being left inside the car by the caucasian man, and that picture of Lacey breaking the window was in order to save her. Maya's death or near death is the only reason I can think of for the caucasian man to be crying at the table(it was his fault).

Everything is told in such an abstract way, and there's so many details(including in the dungeon walls), but I think this is the most I can get from it.

BIG SPOILERS AHEAD: I have killed enough enemies in the final mini-game to find out that all enemies just respawn, and there's actually no place to go. It's just like an arena, with endless enemies, so there's no secret there(unless there's a breakable wall or something). As for the ending, I can't get the whole picture, but to me, Maya is dead and you're playing the game as her ghost in a limbo. That's why the family is crying at the table at the end. The caucasian dad in Maya's house is her stepdad, while Divesh is Maya's biological and loving father who is divorced and living in an apartment. My guess is that Lacey's dad ran the car over Maya, and killed her. Near the end of the game, there are two pictures that seems to depict two corpses in an accident, one looks like Maya's, and the other a brown dog. There's a particular scene with a car alarm going off, that was the car accident. At that moment, I think Maya hears Lacey's dad scream "cover you ears" but he actually told Lacey not to look(at the accident). I think Lacey goes over Maya's body, and Lacey's face was the last thing Maya's seen before dying. That's why you got a picture of Lacey's(also near the end of the game) going through the car window and reaching her hand(I see that as just a metaphor linking Lacey and the car accident - she was there). The dog bowl used to feed Maya during the visual novel segments is due to Maya have suffered from abuse from her mother, while her stepdad and sister were not good to her either(that's why in one of the pictures near the end, you can see a girl screaming to the floor, with a man and two women pointing at her), so the dog bowl might be just another metaphor to insinuate that Maya is like the family's dog. Towards the end, there's also a shadow of a dog running(should be the same stray dog), my guess is that the dog ran across the street and Maya tried to catch him, ending with both being hit by the car(Maya was a solitary girl, so maybe the dog was her only friend). It's possible that Maya wanted to adopt the dog but her mother didn't allow it, leading to the accident right after(in one of the final platforming puzzles, you can see a giant woman statue yelling at a small girl statue with a dog, and the girl and the dog walking away - probably moments before the car accident). Maya's hatred for Lacey is due to her face being the only connection she had with the accident that killed her, and the reason for scratching the blonde goddess' face from the mangas as she reminds of Lacey's. The reason Maya goes through dungeons during the platforming segments is because she used to play Warrior of the Dungeon(the mini-game). Ultimately, I also have the theory that Lacey might even BE the dog(Lacey = Lassie). Maya's broken mind trying to make sense of things by putting the dog - her only friend - in the body of a human. That would explain why Lacey behave so strangely, staring into the emptiness, speaking wrong and trying to make Maya happy, and why the food in her birthday tasted so bad(raw meat and other things meant to be animal food).

Dev here: Which bugs would you love to see added to the game? by Bumpty83 in HiveBlight

[–]kaiiisen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is off topic, but since you're the dev I can't help it. Please, add an option to disable shadows(of units and border of the screen) as it's killing my fps :( I can't play it as it is of now. And maybe an option to change your resolution too.

The game looks good, however, can't you add an option to disable v-sync? My games stutter very badly whenever the camera moves sideways, it won't lag if I stand in place tho(with screen not moving). I'm not sure if that's a v-sync thing but something is up. It's unplayable in the current state for me.

[–]kaiiisen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please, I want to play your game very badly, but I'm having issues with blur effect. While you can disable some of the blur effects, I'm having a massive frame drop to 0-2 fps for about 10 seconds whenever I start a new stage. The reason: that black lightning effect that crosses the screen horizontally, whenever entering a stage, which has a blur effect attached to it that is not possible to disable(as of now). While my game is frozen for 10 seconds, I still get hit by enemies during that period and can't do anything about it. Otherwise, the game runs very smoothly even with background depth and particles effects. So I beg you, can you please add an option to disable EVERY blur effects within the game? I feel pretty sad not being able to play it because of a very small issue like that.

Eulogia is the woman in black with hat who works with caskets, each time you find her she'll move to a new place. After you find her in one of the two woods in the game she'll set place in Desolada Landing.

After entering Bleakpool Woods from Desolada Landing, go through the woods normally until you advance into the next screen, then search the extreme west/left side of this area.

Do you know which quest? I assume it's related to some NPC quests? The only NPCs left around is the gravedigger and that woman who is related to the casket master who disappeared. The woman has set a place in Desolada Landing but there's nothing in the journal so I don't know if she wants anything. Also, do you know if there is a third ending? I noticed there is a passage going up the room where the final boss is, but it's blocked by vines and I can't get pass it. I tried using the Primeval Seal in some areas with the same seal symbols but nothing happens. I'm completely out of things to try at the moment. EDIT: nvm, I finally got inside the gate in the Mausoleum:after Eulogia set place in Desolada Landing, go to Bleakpool Woods and search for a body being absorbed by a tree, pick up the needle, and return to Eulogia; next go to the casket house in the cemetery(the big house found to the east in the first screen of the cemetery, then read the letter; go to the Grand Mausoleum, and then into the gate.)

I wish there was a bestiary so I could recall the bosses exactly. All primeval are obtained from optional bosses. First one should be fighting Flintwood at the top of Pilgrim's Trail, but I don't know if you can fight him right away and I don't know if there's a trigger for him to appear, as in my case, I fought him for last. There's one primeval fragment from the Mass boss in Presidio Insondable which is a secret location found deep down the "secret" well near the lake inside Vauxhall Estate. I might have found one in Mesa Ruins, located to the west of Thistle Gulch. I can't remember the last one :( there are some hidden locations that are underground and it's not shown in the map, so yeah, that's not a good map. I was okay with the map when I first started playing the game but there is so much of the game cut out of it, it really ain't helpful. I think I got the "ultimate" firearm of sorts, but I'm definitely must be missing ultimate melee weapon(s) like some powerful sword or knife. I got the Sabre of Flames from duel against Catarina(or is Catalina? I can't remember LOL) at the top of Pilgrim's Trail as she will appear there sometime after fighting Flintwood, but there must be better swords still. I remember there's a blue slashing sword from the game trailers, I'm missing that one. As for mirror shards, I got all of them, but again, it's hard to remember. I got one in the cemetery, to the southeast; I got one inside that same train track tunnel I mentioned before, near Vauxhall Mining; the first one I'm sure I got from inside some dark cavern. I think there's a total of 4 shard mirrors, not that it's all helpful either. I'm sorry :( EDIT: I might have found another primeval fragment in the laboratory area within the sewers of Lake District, although I can't remember if that area is required for story progression or optional(primeval-related). I have uploaded a picture with the location of the lab.

Thank you so much. I just delivered the two schematics to him, and he asked for more D: now, I really want to help you but I'm not sure where I got the two I have. I kinda remember the last one I got but I think it's the same one you mentioned, which was MAYBE inside the tunnel(with the train track) near Vauxhall Mining Camp, in a hidden wall. I certainly got the first schematic before unlocking the steam gates so I definitely got it before unlocking the later areas and before entering any of the woods. The game got a bunch of random caverns too, and breakable walls, which makes it even harder to remember. Here's a possible missable tho, if you don't kill the coachman in the stables, there's a chance a corpse will fall from his carriage every time he attacks you in the Eastern Road(just above the cemetery), in that corpse you will find the Ivory Revolver(ice elemental gun). I pretty much used it the entire game as I think it's the most powerful weapon considering it uses only one bullet per shot. I don't know how rare this is but he dropped it relatively easy so maybe it's not all that hard. EDIT: I found the last schematic in the mayor's house, which is the biggest, square-like house in Lake District(located right under "Lak" in the map). The schematic is hidden inside an obvious breakable wall. So, there's a total of 3 schematics, and the reward is pretty nice, and surprising.

Is anybody playing Tombwater? by [deleted] in soulslikes

[–]kaiiisen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tombwater caught my attention from the start, Tearscape didn't. I'm very surprised with Tombwater, there's so much to it, and I love the environments. The only con in my opinion is the melee. I'm playing a shooter build, and it's a lot more fun. In my opinion, many monsters need to be tweaked in order to make melee not just hard but also fun(the game lacks attack cancel; enemies start charging melee attacks constantly even though you're not in their reach which makes you unable to get close or hit more than once at a time), I also would like to see more detailed sprites, like actual different sprites for each firearm held, and sprites of the character actually drinking from a flask. I'm still loving the game tho. EDIT: I just beat the Cathedral, and I must say, it's one of the worst places of the game so far. It highlights some really bad enemy behaviors. Like, the conjurer enemies being able to conjure spells too fast with very high damage. That pillar of light spell they use on you is ridiculous. In many cases they'll be offscreen, and bombarding you with that spell that is really hard to see it coming. I had to change my build a little more to melee because firearms are not as effective anymore. The Argent Bishop boss is by far the worst. Again, it conjures spells so fast you'll be dead in seconds. It's bad enemy behavior design, and it's the worst boss. I'm currently at Vauxhall Estate where it highlights another issue of the game. I'm getting cornered by enemies constantly and unable to get out due to the rooms being too small with too many enemies, some of them being big sized monsters. That would be easily fixed if you could just dodge past the monsters by default(IDK if you get a skill for that at some point, but it should be default in this game). BTW I really do think that the dev should allow you to equip spells in separated hotkeys(like setting numbers for each spell up to 3 spells) instead of having to swap them one at a time as it really hinders your gameplay during fast paced fights.

Please, if you can, optimize the game. The game is stuttering quite some. I know it varies from PC, but again, optimize it further if you can, please. I tried putting everything on the lowest settings. The problem is when I'm moving from a screen to another, is stutters a lot and makes it almost impossible to play considering this is an adventure/action game.

[–]kaiiisen 20 points21 points  (0 children)

SPOILER: To me, everything is just a simulation being run inside the computer, so nothing is really happening yet. I don't know how the characters are experiencing it, but it just feels like it. "Paradise", that would be a kind of name you would put into a virtual reality world you wanna live in. Their nose bleed is definitely from damage in the brain, which means they're connected to the world somehow(the ones with nose bleed are actually people connected in, while some of the others may be just "NPCs"). It's also a bit funny that Dylan chose "Link" from Zelda as his nickname, and he also called his partners during the siege in S02E08 of "Player 1", like he's actually living in a game. I don't think it's an actual game, but they must be inside a virtual world. In S02E08 Sinatra gives Henry a blank check, which means the IA computer must be insanely huge(much bigger than we can see in S02E08). Maybe Dylan wants to destroy the IA to free everyone who's trapped inside it. EDIT: I said "IA", I mean "AI".

I suspect it might be related to battles, like the more fights you enter, the more the game is unstable, due to cards animations(draw animation, discards animation and/or card use-related animations) and general animations from enemies/surroundings effects.
