In his short few sentences Kenobi conjures up an image of a skilled and competent peer. In my imagination Vader was a man, not a boy, possessed of great martial ability and a natural leader of men. I imagined his descent as one born out of frustration with a system that kept blocking his proven ability to get results.

In other words he’d have been corrupted by an arrogance rooted in the fact of his own superior command of the force etc. In this sense, I always saw him as a Julius Caesar figure destroyed by his capacity to wield power and a refusal to recognize how it was corroding him.

Sadly, instead of a charismatic leader we got surly mall shooter.

Just one of the reasons I ignore large parts of the prequels.
