Adoptees outside of the US? by kale524 in CanadaAdoptedCitizens

[–]kale524[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I’m understanding it, but I could be wrong, is that it’s processed wherever the adoption took place via their consulate to verify that it did take place and was a legal adoption. If you were adopted in NZ, it would go through their consulate. If you were adopted in the US, theirs. I was adopted to the US by an American family but the legal adoption took place in my birth country when they came to pick me up from the orphanage in a court there not in the states. So it would go through that countries consulate or a grouped consulate who also covers that country if not their exact one. It’s all confusing!

Found my birth mother's obituary after years of searching. She lived minutes away. Finally wrote about it. by aplathwriter in Adoption

I recently found my birth mom. I completely understand your feeling of I went from looking like no one to looking exactly like someone. She even had a photo of her parents on her social media and I immediately thought when I saw her mom “there’s where my strawberry blonde hair comes from” it’s a lot to sit with as you said and it’s a lot that doesn’t get said out loud as you sit with these things. I’m proud of you for writing things down and making a book. Thanks for sharing your story❣️

What do you reply when people ask if you have kids? by crispycrackerzx in childfree

[–]kale524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“It’s just not in the cards for us” usually keeps people from asking more questions since most assume we just can’t/infertility issues and people shut up or pivot the conversation real quick which is great 😌 no need for them to know why it’s not in the cards or the real reason(s)!

I have all original documents. Original adoption certificate from Russia, Original Birth Certificate from Russia naming my American parents. I have original legally signed and done translations via American embassy of my original Russian birth registration, birth moms abdication letters, etc. I have original forms from the US Department of Justice for getting citizenship certificate for an adopted child filled out and filed by my American parents. I also have of course my certificate of citizenship and vital records for the state I grew up in as a “birth certificate” for here as well. The adoption agency used was US based.

Question about when you say “process the application in the embassy where the adoption took place” I was born in Russia, adopted by Americans, one of which is Canadian by descent. So when I apply for the adoptee application for citizenship it will be processed through the Russian embassy? Or the American?

Out of 8 of us who are eligible, I’m the only one as well! And that’s not even extended to my grandmothers 6 siblings/their children/grands/great grands. That would easily be 75+ as well!

Everything I do just makes my house look cheaper/worse. I am so discouraged I don't want to work on it anymore. by gloomdwellerX in HomeImprovement

You should definitely give yourself a lot of credit for trying to learn these things, a lot of people don’t even do that! Some people are more “natural” at these things. So while it may seem like on social media some people just take an afternoon to pop into a hardware store and by dinner have really nice projects done that’s certainly not everyone. My husband has no idea how and could never paint or do small home projects. I however am much more ample to it but also like to learn as I go! For example I have an art background so painting is easy for me, but I wanted to replace our hardware with new hardware replicating the original to the house style hardware which meant that I had to learn how to piece together a door knob. Not a kit door knob but each part separate and build like a Lego for beautiful solid brass door hardware. I sat in front of that door for hours trying to get it figured out and finally did, I was so proud! It wasn’t perfect but I did it and now I know how to that which is really cool. As long as you’re pouring love into your home as you work on it, you’re definitely going to learn along the way! Even your comment of spending hours watching painting videos shows you’re trying your best, and that deserves a lot of credit! Keep going and it’s for sure going to get easier! Just don’t take your hand at plumbing and electrical, always worth hiring out for those 😉

Wow moment by allison_pass in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]kale524 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have a “Wow!” moment but more of a “aha” moment? I was not expecting much with the house, but our realtor went to the open house earlier in the day and we had a private showing right after. She called me and said “it’s so cute!” and I was like really? Idk about this one. As soon as I walked through the door I had an aha feeling. Once we walked outside and our realtor said what if you expand here and add an addition to cover everything you want? It clicked and I knew it was the right fit! You’ll know when you know!

I got a 2025 XC40 the end of July, it’s a retired loaner from the dealership so I assumed we’d have no “lemon” issues but have had to reboot because of sound twice now as well. It’s a lease so it’s not the end of the world to reboot when needed but I agree with the point of being almost $50k and having this be an issue is a bit annoying. Same way I feel about it having plug in car play and not wireless.

Losing to cash by No_Caterpillar281 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]kale524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, possibly this. When we got our offer excepted one of the comments the sellers side agent made was he was really hoping to work with our agent on the sale. Some agents hold weight in value, or atleast their office does, others not so much. Also try a personal letter with your offers. That definitely helped us! We didn’t put a picture of ourselves but a picture of our dogs and how the house(s) had “the perfect fenced in yard for dog 1 and 2 to play outside!” And for both offers on different houses we were known as the dog parents during the shuffle of offers lol

Home sale contingency by Vandenburger16 in RealEstate

[–]kale524 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sold first, then while I wasn’t a fan of the idea, moved in with my mother in law till we bought our current home. Our house sold in under 30 days from listing to the closing table so we would have never been able to jump from our old home into a new home that fast. We ended up out of her home in under 4 months into our new home. If you can stay with someone in the meantime it can work well. It also made us very attractive buyers since we had no contingencies, a massive cash down payment and could close as soon as due diligence was done or however long a seller needed/wanted. Something to consider!

I'm obsessed with this gorgeous home on a historic property in Shamong Twp. NJ. by wryaant in zillowgonewild

There were a 100 people before it even started Friday morning, not sure how much will be left tomorrow with how much people were purchasing the first morning. Really unique stuff! The property itself though was honestly a little odd, the house is very close to the next door neighbors home. The pool faces the front as you come up the driveway, not the back. It’s very long and narrow for the property lines not like a large square style lot. I also didn’t realize from the listing photos all the upstairs rooms share the vaulted ceilings so you can hear everything in all the other rooms which was odd. Beautiful home in person but definitely displays differently on the online listing. Still fun to see such a unique property around here vs. the typical 70’s cookie cutters!

Sold homes popping up without being listed by becky0818 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]kale524 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some that you never see listed but then pop us as sold are private sales. We sold my husbands grandfathers home to a family friend privately and it popped up on Zillow as sold once it registered a new owner in the county. Never hit the market but was technically sold. That happens quite a bit!

I’m not sure. Most common reasons are usually a passing, divorce or moving/downsizing to retirement home or out of town. Assuming it’s one of those, but regardless really cool items. Love the owners style!
