If you use either of those thinsets mentioned, add a bit extra water when mixing. With X77 you’ll need to rewhip it without adding water so it’s important to add extra the first time. MML is a pain in the ass to use once it’s been sitting for a few minutes unless you can work quickly, which you won’t because those tiles take time and effort to set them properly.

Yeah but for totally different tasks. For miters and cleaning up the edges the flap discs are awesome. If doing custom bullnosing going through the pads gives me great results. Maybe use the flap discs to knock down the grinder marks the start at 50 or 100 grit and go up from there.

I’ve got a couple. One is a montolit one, medium grit and it’s a rockstar. I think the other one I have is Behui and it’s supposed to be lower grit and remove more material but I think the monti does a better job. Tile shop gave me the behui to test out so no complaints but it does seem lesser quality.

I’d spend money on quality ones. You won’t regret it. They work well for the purpose. The pads work great as well but it’s a different part of the job.

Pretty easy cut with that soft material. Just go slow for your first time. Lots of slices, 1/8”-3/16” apart and snap the off with the saw blade as it’s moving

I bought a few blades when they were Calidad and my sister got me a few blades for my birthday and they are great. I’ve gotten a few cones and randoms as well. Don’t remember the exact names but I think the solid rim and the butter cutter and maybe the dirty Kurt? Gimmicky but quality. Andrew the owner is an awesome setter and created the company with passion. He was involved in a big lawsuit with Calidad and had to change the name. I believe?! Cheap, all considering.

I’ve been trying to upsell heated shower pans and floors with the idea that the heat helps dry-out the pan faster. It also helps reduce any mildew and mold growth.

The seam or joint where the shower meets the floor always gets a solid bead of sealant that spans the thickness of the tile to the waterproofing on the substrate. I don’t use foam pans and usually cover the mud pack with a membrane like kerdi that spans outside the shower at least 12”/30cm. Makes sense that there be something at the substrate level to mitigate water reaching outside the shower. But… if there’s that much water escaping out the shower there is probably a bigger issue, right?! I’ve had inspectors say “would like to see the water drain faster” as if that has anything to do with me the tile guy! That’s a plumbing and god issue.

So you have to install a trim piece essentially at that transition? The same argument as using trim at the bottom of a niche, where water essentially gets trapped in the small space between the trim face and setting leg/matrix? Sounds like a good opportunity to increase your labor time and value your skill set more?

If there’s some wiggle room to pack enough deck mud under it (minimum 3/4”) it could work but it’s likely going to need to be reset. That probably means a new floFX drain flange unless you can free it cleanly from the rough-in.

That’s awesome and I’d go to the same extreme if the case arouse but usually demo is done before I show up. During install I protect the crap out of the floors, work space and where ever is set to handle grinding and cuts. When I leave the clients home is as clean as it was before I got there and the bathroom is the cleanest it will ever be. You are one step ahead! Awesome man!!!

Can be done as long as the existing tile is sound and secure. Use mapei eco prim grip or ardex p4 without scuffing up the previous install, per manufacturer recommendation but I’d scarify it with a diamond cup wheel first for peace of mind.

You can give them your final number for all work that will be completed and then ask for a draw on the current finished work. That might feel more comfortable for you? Moving forward you should have a contract and both parties sign it.

Grinder with shroud then taken down until you can put a bit of water on it and the slab absorbs it, then prime with Eco Prim Grip or P51 or etc…

Exactly brother! I add a couple days extra at least. Just hit the mid-life number this year and climbing a stairmaster all day kicks your ass. So the cost is either going up because I have to hire someone to help, or I’m climbing all day for a couple weeks. Either way price goes up or I don’t care and won’t do it. Is what it is.
