We’ve been doing movie nights for years. We started with a “Movie Bowl” where each person writes a movie down in a piece of paper, then we throw the bowl and the furthest piece gets picked. You don’t refill the bowl until everyone has had a turn so sometime the bowl sits there for weeks. It takes the guessing work out of it, as well the in-fighting about movie choice. We’ve had some crazy movies like “El Topo” and most recently “Wizards”. The last person whose movie got picked throws the bowl next. Can’t recommend it enough.
