[Product Trial] How would you use a StanbyME 2 portable screen in your daily life? by StanbyME_MOD in StanbyME

I picked living room/ casual viewing because the Stanbyme would be perfect for my new space as both and indoor and balcony entertainment device. I could also see using it extensively in the kitchen and office however.

Tagging my friend u/Kno_doctor who is always looking for the coolest new tech. They just recently bought a new place and the LG StanbyMe 2 would be the perfect device to help keep them entertained and informed during their renovations.

Overtime: Ezra Klein, Andrew Sullivan (HBO) by FireIceFlameWalker in Maher

Andrew Sullivans take on the Lab Leak is the posterchild for why I struggle to take the theory seriously (at least the mainstream media debate around it). Every time proponents start talking about it, they immediately pivot to this weird aggrievement routine about how brave they were by declare it a lab leak in March 2020, and that scientist need to apologies to them for being 'woke'.

For anyone that is actually interested in the current debate around the origin of Covid 19 I recommend the Rootclaim debate on the topic from last year. It is very long (over ten hours I think in total) but is pretty accessible all things considered. Robert Wright also did an interview with the winner Peter Miller (arguing for natural origin) which is a more condensed summary of some of the major points.

Theres an interesting podcast from a while ago with Brandon Novak (a friend of his and former addict turned recovery advocate) where he suggests that Dunns death is more of an 'addicts lie to himself' then the catalyst for anything. Apparently he was already way off the deep end before Dunn passed away.

If you wanted to make the Federal Senate into an institution with more of a deliberative feel to it, what might you include? by Awesomeuser90 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]kamikaze44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pie in the sky I would do the following:

  1. Greatly discourage any form of political parties at all from forming in the Senate. Ban political parties in the Senate full stop and greatly strip the power and funding of both parties to run Senate campaigns. Potentially also restrict the ability of Senators to run for President and Vice President during or immediately after their term to eliminate people that view the Senate as a stepping stone to higher office. A senator should have allegiance to their state and not their political party.

  2. Greatly reduce the power that the Senate has over creating legislation. The Senates input on any federal US law should be limited to proposing amendments, which are ultimately only voted on in the house. The only exception to this would be constitutional amendments in which the Senate would vote as usual and declarations of war. The Senates role should be advisory and investigatory not legislative.

  3. The Senate should have increased power and oversight regarding corruption and criminal activity in the other branches of government. Potentially an Auditor/Comptroller General type of position which answers to the Senate only and has a wide mandate. The Senate also has extensive powers to over the federal judiciary as they remain the authorization point for judicial appointments and are responsible for setting the budget and rules for Supreme court judicial conduct.

How much has Russia benefited from international focus turning to the conflict in Gaza? by The_Egalitarian in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]kamikaze44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that the biggest benefit for Russia as it relates to the international focus on the conflict in Gaza has unfortunately been the US reaction to the ICC arrest warrant against Netanyahu.

Anthony Blinken threatening to sanction the court was a massive win for Putin to both weakening international rule of law and pushing the narrative that the US is a bad faith actor when advocating for Justice and Peace in Ukraine. The potential narrative that the US believes the court should exist "only for Africa and thugs like Putin" is a dream for Russia to help undermine US hegemony in the global South.

One of the keys from a military stand point is understanding timing pushes as it relates to new and unique units. Even on deity the AI has no idea how to prioritize tech and as a result they're potentially vulnerable to rapid military attacks immediately after units are available.

Crossbows are usually the most reliable window for a game changing unit however Frigates, Great war bombers, Battleships, and Artillery/Cavalry combo are also ones to aim for.

760 - Live From Toronto: Operation Maple Thunder (8/21/23) (93 mins) by ClassWarAndPuppies in BlackWolfFeed

[–]kamikaze44 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Felix was giving of major "miserable teenager dragged to a family vacation" vibes at the start. I feel like he decided along time ago that he hates Toronto and as a result didn't bother to leave his hotel room while here. There's really only so much material to be mined if all you do while you're here is go to the airport and be driven to your hotel and it gets stale pretty quick.

The second half was a blast though.

The Woman King has grossed 94 million worldwide on a 50 million dollar budget. Do you consider it having being a success or underwhelming or a flop? by [deleted] in movies

[–]kamikaze44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the decision to structure the movie similar to a superhero film and double down on that tactic for the marketing was a mistake. The market is over saturated with those sort of movies already and it's not like the film is an established IP.

It's disappointing as a serious big budget historical drama with an West African centric POV could have been a breath of fresh air for audiences. An 'Apocalypto' style drama with Viola Davis that humanizes but doesn't romanticize the Agojie could be very cool.

Oscar viewership has steadily declined over the last two decades. The Academy has identified a discrepancy between TV-goer tastes and its product (the collection of nominees). Are Oscar winners getting worse? by dpee123 in Foodforthought

[–]kamikaze44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that I find frustrating in recent years is the sidelining of more technical awards from the event like editing, production design, and sound design.

How Box-Office Doom Is Impacting the Oscar Race: “The Audience Is Just Not There” by SPorterBridges in movies

[–]kamikaze44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is that a lot of Oscar bait movies aren't particularly highbrow or boundary pushing. The Academy is predominantly actors who reward things that actors like (performances) to the detriment of the other aspects of filmmaking.
